Roy Williams gets his ring back

Roy Williams, Malcolm Jenkins AP

The strange story of Roy Williams and the $76,600 engagement ring has come to an end.

Williams, the Dallas Cowboys receiver who sued his ex-girlfriend to try to get back the engagement ring that he mailed her on Valentine’s Day, got the ring back.

Brooke Daniels, the former Miss Texas USA who dated Williams for a year, returned the ring yesterday, her mom told TMZ.  The hand-off of the ring was overseen by Williams’ lawyer.

Although questions remain — namely, what the hell was Williams thinking sending an engagement ring in the mail? — the issue appears to be over.  But Williams had better be ready for a whole lot of trash talk about it this season.

[Editor's note:  "Hey, Roy.  Are you gonna play hard today or are you gonna mail it in?"  Heyo!]

I was wondering if you guys were going to post this comment/hits masterpiece!

Roy Williams is officially a clown, as if there was any doubt prior. Who sends a video engagement along with a ring to a woman? What a turd.

    A. i wonder how much he paid Brooke to give him the ring back?

    B. i wonder how much he had to pay his lawyers to resolve this matter?

maybe it would have been cheaper to just let her keep it?

  3. mvp43 says: Jul 7, 2011 11:19 AM

Probably better that they’re not getting married. If he mailed her the ring, I wonder what his plans were to consummate the marriage……

Our long national nightmare is over.

to bad he cant get his game back

  6. deeowens11 says: Jul 7, 2011 11:22 AM

I’m pretty sure he felt safer doing it through USPS. Had he been in possession of the ring, there is a great chance that he would have dropped it on the way to putting it on her finger.

On another note, I know the U has a reputation for, well for a lot of things, but its typically negative. Can we now shift some of that label to UT? Between Sergio Kendall, The ass-clown that got beat up by a UFC fighter in street clothes, Ricky Williams saga, Cedric Benson’s track record in Austin, TX, and now this incident with Mandingo, oops, Roy Williams. Has the torch of debauchery officially been passed?

You seem awfully confident there will be a season?

  8. nekelund says: Jul 7, 2011 11:27 AM

I wonder if Roy was able to hang on to the ring when it landed in his hands or whether he had to pick it up after dropping it. If he held on, it’s likely the most valuable reception he’ll make all year.

  9. rayvens says: Jul 7, 2011 11:27 AM

This story is the closes R.Williams will come to, his name, a Ring, and NFL being mention in the same sentence.

  10. bigfranky75 says: Jul 7, 2011 11:31 AM

    IF there is a season!

  11. bigfranky75 says: Jul 7, 2011 11:31 AM

Who the hell is Roy Williams?

  12. batfreight says: Jul 7, 2011 11:34 AM

Roy Williams is not very bright. This is common knowledge. Items that hammer home the fact that he is stupid do not qualify as news.

  13. eaglesfootballfan says: Jul 7, 2011 11:36 AM

Roy Williams might get released by the Cowboys and be out of a job.

  14. billinva says: Jul 7, 2011 11:37 AM

    Great, glad to hear it.

Now he can pawn it to cover his rent when he’s out of a job.

Just don’t let him handle the envelope of cash, he’ll probably drop it.

  15. boedavis says: Jul 7, 2011 11:39 AM

Now he can put that money to his retirement fund…he’s gonna need it considering he’ll be cut after the lockout.

  16. Slackmo says: Jul 7, 2011 11:50 AM

I don’t know why this is surprising. Roy Williams mails in his season every year.

  17. myeaglescantwin says: Jul 7, 2011 11:52 AM

as an eagles fan. i cannot comment on anything dealing with rings..

    that is all

  18. buckhuckster says: Jul 7, 2011 11:53 AM

Thanks PFT for letting me forgot about the lockout for 2 seconds by informing me that this Roy Williams situation comes to a happy ending. No really, thank you.

Roy Williams is a typical Jones family move….and why the Boy’s will continue to sink until the Jones family figures out that they know shiite about football and get a competent GM in there!

  20. melonnhead says: Jul 7, 2011 12:00 PM

He’s not gonna get cut. He would cost more against the salary cap (if there is one) than he would if they just keep him. He’s the third best WR on the team until Ogletree or Hurd prove otherwise, and I don’t think they will. Talk all the crap you want but the guy still caught 5 TD passes last year, same as Branch, Ward and Harvin.

  22. footballhistorian says: Jul 7, 2011 12:09 PM

I’d have it chemically tested. Not sure where it may have been “stored” prior to its return…just puttin’ that out there…

  23. dgforreal says: Jul 7, 2011 12:12 PM

As strange as this story is, you have to admit it’s not the worst thing that he could have done during this lockout.

    Just saying.

  24. boothisman says: Jul 7, 2011 12:14 PM

Only ring he will ever get.

  25. boknowsvt says: Jul 7, 2011 12:16 PM

Thank God! Now I can finally end the candlelight vigil I was holding for him.

lol at the picture you posted with Roy Williams trying to be the hero during the Thanksgiving game and failing. lol.

Now if Dallas could sue and get their money back from Roy…

  28. pacificamjr says: Jul 7, 2011 12:37 PM

I’m thinking STL, CLE or BUF for Mitts of Steel Williams

  29. tundey says: Jul 7, 2011 12:41 PM

Why is everybody focusing on how he got the ring to her? I think the important part is he actually wanted to marry her! Sure proposal by mail is kinda tacky but that doesn’t make him a “turd” or any other names he’s been called.

Also, this is a $76K right. Of course he’s right to ask for it back. I also believe he had to because the girl had claim the ring was lost. So he filed a claim with his insurance (as any of us would do) and was told the ring wasn’t lost.

  30. grantgoodman93 says: Jul 7, 2011 12:49 PM

he really dropped the ball on this one. but does that surprise anyone?

  31. upperdecker19 says: Jul 7, 2011 1:11 PM

Much cheaper to send a text message instead. Only a $50K fine (tax write off) with standard text messaging rates applying.

    Regards,
    Brett Favre

  32. lance19 says: Jul 7, 2011 1:17 PM

It’s the only way there could ever be a headline like:

    “Roy Williams gets a ring.”

    I’m picturing Williams earnestly scotch-taping
the ring to a Jackalope postcard…

  33. lance19 says: Jul 7, 2011 1:20 PM

“I wonder what his plans were
    to consummate the marriage…”

Hard to say, but it probably includes “Netflix”

  34. claydefayette says: Jul 7, 2011 1:27 PM

I found it odd that Williams even decided to file the lawsuit. Why would he want anyone to know about his lack of game off the field with women?

  35. tjacks7 says: Jul 7, 2011 2:10 PM

I just proposed to my girlfriend via AIM instant messaging. Step your game up Roy!

  36. CKL says: Jul 7, 2011 3:05 PM

Hey Roy, there’s a reason that the song says, “If you liked it then you should have PUT a ring on it” and not “mailed a ring TO it”.

  37. msadpoet says: Jul 7, 2011 4:03 PM

I think you guys are being too harsh on ol’ Roy. I mean come on, who would want to marry a former Ms. Texas?

  38. msadpoet says: Jul 7, 2011 5:17 PM

No Roy…Let me explain it to you again. How a mail order bride works is…..

  39. melonnhead says: Jul 7, 2011 5:31 PM

Roy Williams is a typical Jones family move….and why the Boy’s will continue to sink until the Jones family figures out that they know shiite about football and get a competent GM in there!

    —————————————————————-

Ahhh, BS. Jones actually played the game at a high level… he was team captain of a college national champion. He’s been GM of the Cowboys for 23 years and during that time the Cowboys have won 8 division championships and won three Super Bowls. No other NFCE team can claim better in that period of time. In fact the Redskins and Giants can’t claim 8 NFCE division championships in the entire existence of the NFC East division. The Eagles have won 8, total.

At what point does a guy become a “football guy”?

And before you try to counter with “That was Jimmy Johnson’s team”, ask yourself this: Who hired Jimmy Johnson?

  40. melonnhead says: Jul 7, 2011 7:33 PM

I found it odd that Williams even decided to file the lawsuit. Why would he want anyone to know about his lack of game off the field with women?

    ——————————————————————-

I wouldn’t say he has no game with women. He was living with and apparently having carnal knowledge of Miss Texas USA 2009 for over a year. She just didn’t want to marry him.
