Whisenhunt: Cardinals “have a lot to offer” veteran quarterbacks

The Cardinals and Seahawks could both go after the same quarterbacks after the lockout, like Kevin Kolb.

It makes sense, then, that both teams do a little bit of selling to prospective options about why their club is more desirable than others. And Cardinals coach Ken Whisenhunt thinks his squad has plenty to offer.

“You know the one thing that we like; we’ve got a lot to offer,” Whisenhunt said on the Scott Van Pelt Show recently, via ArizonaSports.com. “We’ve got a young team, we’ve got some talented players, we’ve got Larry Fitzgerald. It’s something that I would think would be very enticing to a quarterback to know this is a team that’s been very proficient passing the ball in the year’s past.”

It’s a fair point. Whisenhunt has a successful history of working with quarterbacks like Ben Roethlisberger and Kurt Warner. They have Fitzgerald and a decent group of receivers behind him.

That would make Arizona attractive to free agent quarterbacks, and it’s worth remembering Kolb could have a small bit of control of where he lands in a trade. Teams like the Cardinals and Seahawks will want to sign Kolb to an extension, and Kolb will have to play ball with them.

Of course, the ability of a team like the Cardinals or Seahawks to pay the money Kolb desires will matter a lot more than the current roster in place.
