If you don’t know Hines Ward’s amazing football credentials in GA (college) let me mention: he was under tight watch his entire college days and NO INCIDENCES- NOTHING. as a NFL Player NO PRIOR INCIDENCES – Nothing!

I know that the mere thought of having to play nfl football with Roethlisberger would cause a normal nfl player to turn to drink for comfort-
but Hines Ward is Innocent.

This case will be dismissed for lack of evidence.
Too bad #86 must play the great game with Roethlisberger- when #86 is a better QB everyday.

The authorities assume that you’ll accept a plea, that’s part of the game. It costs so much to defend yourself in both time and money that most folks just take the path of least resistence. If you have the time and can find enough money and fight an erroneous charge, you can and will win.

@ Bubby Brister: I didn’t give him hell for the supposed DUI charge, I won’t give him hell for texting and driving. However, it does prove my point. He was arrested and charged with a DUI, yet he might “only” be guilty of Texting while driving. HUGE difference and one that you’d think the arresting officer would be able to distinguish.

When talking about a topic, it might be important to fully understand the context. MADD makes zero money off alcohol sales there “CHAMP.” The gov’t makes money off both sides of the situation – arrests and taxes on alcohol sales. MADD are the one’s that want to end alcohol availability. Way to just pop off, though, on your part.

I see what you’re saying, but the players are still employed by the league, so I would think they’re still subject to the PCP. But I don’t know. It seems to me that Mike wrote an article on that issue near the beginning of the lockout. You might try searching PFT for “personal conduct policy” to see what articles come up. If he covered the subject, it would have been published since late March of this year.

Your point is well-taken, too. Fellow Steelers fans eviscerated me for arguing the case facts last year when Ben was an embarrassment. Then no charges were filed, things settled down, he came back to play well, and all was forgiven. But I expected as much. You just have to shrug and let it go. The great irony of the whole thing is that all these dimwits carry on about me luvving Ben just when I’m really not particularly fond of the guy. He didn’t commit the crime and that’s my only point, but he certainly has other behavioral issues and is extremely immature. So far he hasn’t demonstrated the work ethic for that position and salary, either. Maybe he’s changing; I hope so. But as of now, both Brister and Tomczak are ahead of him on my list of favorite Steeler QBs–by personality if not by talent

Read my posts before you address me. I haven’t “defended” Hines at all. Most of my posts haven’t even been about this incident.

I’m a huge Ben supporter. I believe he’s innocent. Hell, I believe Bettis and Batch were as well. But there were (and let’s be honest, still are) tons and tons of fans who, like lots of people on this very comment thread, ignored the lack of evidence and wanted him off the team in favor of starting Charlie Batch, who had similar baseless allegations against him. Nobody EVER talked about those allegations against Batch OR the ones against Bettis during the whole Ben fiasco because they are beloved in Pittsburgh.

Fast forward to a few weeks ago and Mendenhall’s overblown tweets had people banning together to get him off the team. Now, IF Ward is in fact guilty of a DUI (and it appears he’s not and I hope he’s not) I will not defend him. But I know for a fact that virtually every Steelers fan in existence would. Maybe you wouldn’t, I can’t say. But it just sickens me that the same Steelers fans who cried for months that Ben was a disgrace to Pittsburgh would defend somebody who actually committed a potentially deadly crime.

BUT…two entirely different circumstances between Ben and Hines. And…the CBA is part of the contract between the NFL and the NFLPA, correct…?

And currently, there is NO contract between the two.

A lawyer, even Edgar Snyder (yeah, I’m from the ‘Burgh), could reasonably argue and prove that the Per. Cond. provision was not in effect because a relationship did not exist between the two entities.

If that were the case, then the commish could punish for traffic tickets 5 years ago if unearthed…if the player was out of the game…or in college..
