Veteran defensive lineman Robaire Smith will be an unrestricted free agent when the lockout ends. But that’s not stopping him from preparing for the season with his most recent teammates.

Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer reports that Smith has joined Browns players in Texas for the latest installment of Camp Colt.

“Scott [Fujita] reached out to me a couple of weeks ago and asked me to come down and be a part of it, which I thought was great,” Smith told Cabot. “I told him most definitely I’d be there for him, especially coming from a guy like Scott. It meant a lot to me personally. There was no way I was going to turn this down, an opportunity to come here and work out with these guys.”

Smith, who says he has fully recovered from a bruised spine, also said he’d like to re-sign with the Browns. Despite the team’s transition from a 3-4 to a 4-3 alignment, Smith has experience in the 4-3 from his time with the Titans.

Per Cabot, roughly 40 players have made the trek to Austin for the fourth edition of lockout workouts named for the team’s second-year quarterback. It’s the first time defensive players have joined the sessions.
