I guess DiarreHarrison is right. Ben is no Peyton Manning. Roethlisberger will never get any national commercial deals. I know what commercial James DiarreHarrison can do...he can replace the mucus monster in those Mucinex ads! ;)

Asking you about your name, and why you refer to yourself as a real football fan, isn't petty. You obviously think putting the word "real" in front of "football fan" somehow places you above others. When it doesn't. And I am not at all a Colts fan or a Manning fan. I just realize that football is a team sport, and Ben has always played on a much better overall team than Manning.

MANNING lost to Jay Fiedler? Once again, thank you for proving my point. The Colts DEFENSE lost to Jay Fiedler (not Manning).

Better post season numbers? Since Ben has been in the league they have both played in 13 playoff games, Manning has more yards (and it's not even close), same amount of TDs, and less interceptions.

And I don't know where you are getting this 14 ppg average, the Colts have only scored 14 points or less in a playoff game 3 times in his entire career. I added it all up and came up with a 22 ppg average, so where are you getting 14?

Look at their past several playoff losses. Generally, Peyton has played pretty well in all of them. Sure he has made mistakes, but overall he had pretty good games. A good example, the Jets this year. Peyton had a much better game in a losing effort, than Ben had in a winning effort.

Ben has had more bad games than just in the Superbowl, I only bring up his terrible superbowl games because everyone tries to say Ben is such a huge big game QB. Yet, in two of his three Superbowls, he has been anything BUT a big game QB.

And by saying Rivers numbers are irrelevant you have shown your bias and I don't need to argue this further. You are just a fanboy of Roethlisberger.

Any REAL football fan knows that Manning is by far a better QB.

Also, you failed to answer this question: which team would struggle more without their QB? The Steelers or the Colts?

enders9,

There's really no need to get petty because you're a a biased Colts fan, but the numbers don't lie.

Peyton's playoff offenses have averaged around 14 ppg, so I don't think his defense has anything to do with them losing. He had Edgerin James rushing for 1500 yards a year, and he was throwing to a Hall of Fame wide receiver (and another very good one since his decline), while playing indoors at home for most of these losses.

He lost a playoff game to Jay freaking Fiedler once upon a time, lol.

Bottom line is that Roethlisberger has better post-season numbers, but I guess that's Dick Labeau's doing, lol.

I guess the defense has helped him have the best playoff completion percentage on 3rd downs in the playoffs the last 5 years too, huh?

I guess the Colts regularly getting pushed out of the playoffs by lesser teams falls anywhere but on Peyton's shoulders when his teams go from scoring 26-32 ppg to 14 ppg over his career in playoff games. Know who's teams don't dip in offensive productivity, Roethlisberger's 3 playoff losses all involved his team scoring 25+ points, and I don't remember them all being long rushing TDs while he sat and watched, lol.

you keep bringing up Roethlisberger's Super Bowls, but fail to mention that Manning kind of stunk in a lot more big spots before he ever got 1st and 2nd seeded teams to the game, which makes your whole premise laughable.

Peyton's great, but dude, he's no better than Roethlisberger. Furthermore, those same players said that Michael Vick is a top 20 player, Ray Lewis (at 35), and a run down Ed Reed are also top 10, lol.

And Rivers numbers are irrelevant in this conversation when he's lost to the lower seeded Jetstwice and gotten rolled by Roethlisberger with a comparable roster.

Also, if my posts are too long for you, stop retorting with your own overlogn posts, accept that you're wrong, and let's move on, lol.

enders9,

[insert realfootballfan's (lol at that name) extremely long post that was almost entirely full of bs and not worth copy/pasting]

---------------------------------------------------------

You know what Tom Brady has never done in a Superbowl? Had a QB rating of less than 80. Ben has only exceeded 80 once, and that was in 08. There is a difference between Brady being inconsequential in his first Superbowl and Ben posting up one of the worst performances of all time in his first super bowl. Also, Brady has been to more Superbowls and has thrown only 1 interception compared to Bens 5. I'm not going to argue this further, because Ben can't even sniff Brady's jock strap. And anyone who thinks he can is a complete idiot.

You say the momentum swung after Mendenhall fumbled, so when you also say that Ben was one of the main reasons they gained control in the second half I am going to assume you really meant just the third quarter. And to that I say lol. Ben barely did anything in the 3rd quarter. The only TD came on a drive where they ran it every time but one, and that one pass was for only 6 yards. The next drive was halted by an incomplete pass, a pass for negative yards, and a sack. Next drive was a three and out, 2 of which were passes. So what am I missing here that Ben did that was so amazing? Because all I see is him bringing on the punt team.

Saying "the defense didn't exactly hold up their end of the bargain" just proves my point. Ben can play one of the worst games ever by a QB in the superbowl, and the Steelers still win. But when the defense struggles some, the Steelers lose. So thanks for proving my point that Ben has been carried by his defense.

Yes the Saints defense was suspect, but they were one of the top turnover forcing teams that year. What is another name for an interception again?

You know who else has a career average of 8 yards an attempt? Philip Rivers, but apparently it's only amazing if it is done by a Steeler QB, because you later go on to bash Rivers and laugh at even comparing him to Ben. But maybe you should go look at what Rivers has done over the past three years before you laugh at the comparison. Statistically, it's better than anything Ben has ever done. No Rivers hasn't won a superbowl in that time, but again, football is the ultimate team sport. One player isn't going to win the team a superbowl.

I'm not slighting Ben, I acknowledge he is one of the best QBs in the NFL. But he is not as good as Manning or Brady. He's just had the benefit of playing on a much better team than Manning.

Answer this Mr. Real Football Fan, which team would struggle more without their QB? The Steelers or the Colts?

As far as the best players list, I'll take the word of the people that play against Ben every Sunday over the word of a self proclaim real football fan (do you think calling yourself a REAL football fan actually means anything? Or places you above any other football fan? Because it doesn't.)

enders9,

He (along with Santonio Holmes) kind of won the Super Bowl as time ticked off the clock a couple of years ago. And you're seriously going to compare how he played vs. Seattle with the last 2 performances where he's grown leaps as a QB. By that same take, Tom Brady was pretty inconsequential in New England's first Super Bowl win and pretty mediocre in their last appearance. Still wouldn't change my decision to start him over any other guy in the game today if I needed to win one game.

Roethlisberger had a couple of turnovers in the Super Bowl, but he was one of the main reasons that they'd gained control of that game in the 2nd half.

Let's not forget that the momentum swung when Mendenhall fumbled because at that point the Steelers had taken over that game, and Ben was a big part of that. The Packers were on their heels.

not to mention, the defense didn't exactly hold up their end of the bargain since they were the ones who let Rodgers continuously throw to Jennings and Nelson at will.

Manning is very good, but Roethlisberger is very much on equal footing with both he and Brady. Rodgers might be next in line in that club because he's been very good his first 3 years as a starter with a Super Bowl ring and big games on his resume.

For all the excuses people put up for Manning, his teams have averaged 14 ppg in his playoff starts over the years (well below regular season stats). He's the guy who threw the interception with the Super Bowl on the line against a pretty suspect defense (New Orleans).

Also, that '05 team of the Colts was the first seed in the AFC, so what are you talking about the Steelers were better, they barely made the playoffs as they were the 6th seed.

Sure they proved in the end to be but every indicator prior to the playoffs would point to otherwise as the Colts were at home, they were out of the elements, and their offense underachieved like it usually does around playoff time with Manning throwing a couple of picks for good measure..the defense certainly played well enough for them to win had the offense held up it's end of the deal.

Also, Edgerin James was on that team, so I guess that didn't make Indy's rushing attack comparable to an 80 year old Jerome Bettis and Willie Parker combination.

People talk like he's slugging through 14-10 games during the playoffs and being carried by his defense. Outside of Brady, there's no QB I'd rather give the ball to with the game on the line all things being equal.

Also, give me a break with the rating nonsense. He averages 8 yards an attempt for his career, do you realize how amazing that is. That's the equivalent of a receiver averaging 16 yards a catch while catching 80+ balls a year.

He doesn't stack gawdy numbers (also doesn't play in a dome half the time), but Roethlisberger is every bit on the same plane with those other two guys, he has the big game pedigree and rings to stand next to either of them, especially Manning.

And I can't even believe you mentioned Brees or Rivers, the biggest joke, in your response. Roethlisberger's beaten him nearly every time they've ever played with what we've been told for half a decade was the best roster in football flanking him.

I'm just tired of people slighting the guy just because he's a jerk or he's not what you'd think was an ideal role model qB or whatever. Look at that farce of the best player list, he wasn't even in the top 15, that's a joke.

If you've seen me responding to people talking about Steelers fans as though they were talking only about me, it was because I defy stereotyping in many respects (liberal evangelical, Southern civil rights advocate, feminine football fanatic) and enjoy being the posterchild for not making assumptions. I also tend to call out searing stupidity and racism. But though I don't go on rivals' threads and pick fights, when they bring it to me, honey, I can fire up the good ol' smacktalk with the best of them.

Let’s not forget that if P.Manning played in Pittsburgh, he would have 7 SB rings by now.
———————————————————-
Manning would have cos tthe Steelers 3 Super Bowls! He is a playoff choker!
Ben 2 rings and a 9-3 post season record
Manning 1 ring and a 10-9 post season record!

---------------------------------------------------

This is just idiotic thinking that only a Steeler fan could truly believe. If Manning was the QB of the Steelers, you would not have lost all three Superbowls. Manning wouldn't have had 7 rings, like the other poster said, but he would at least have 3 by now.

The Steelers won the Superbowl in 05 despite Ben having one of the worst performances ever by a QB in the Superbowl. A 22.6 QB rating in the biggest game of your life (at that point in his career) is the definition of a choke job. The fact that the Steelers were still able to win shows just how important Ben was to that Superbowl winning team.

Ben has spent his entire career in a much better situation team-wise than Manning has ever had. Every year, the Steelers have a dominating top 5 defense (most years, if not all, they are arguably the best defense in the NFL). The Colts defense doesn't even come close to how good the Steelers defense is. Steelers also have better coaching and a better running game than the Colts.

If you take Ben off the Steelers, they are still a superbowl team. Proof of this is: Look at the 05 Superbowl, and remember the Steelers went 3-1 last year when Ben was suspended.

If you take Manning off the Colts, the Colts become a 6-10 team at best. Just look at how bad the Colts are any time another QB is playing. It's just ugly.

Manning hasn't been amazing in either of his Superbowl performances, but overall he has been a much better Superbowl QB than Ben has. You'll never see Manning post a 22.6 in the Superbowl (and if he did, the Colts wouldn't even come close to winning).

Harrison is a complete and total idiot for making comments like this about his QB. I want to know if he said anything like this to his face in the lockerroom, where it is more appropriate for players to discuss each other's play, right or wrong. In public is just wrong, for anybody on any team.

The Steelers and the Rooneys normally don't stand for this type of shananigans within the team environment, and I hope they don't now. Suspend Harrison for one game, and fine him on top of it. This can't happen again.

Frankly, I could care less if they traded or cut him at this point. He is not bigger than the TEAM.

@enders9 …

Duh, that was the point, genius. Generalizations are offensive. They’re the basis of stereotypes and bigotry. It’s offensive when he decides all the people disagreeing with Harrison must be white, males, and when he decides they must be bigoted and jealous of athletes, and that they are cowards. It’s just as offensive as declaring that all football players are stupid or all African-Americans like watermelon. You don’t group people together based on their skin color, religion, gender, or any other arbitrary factor and start assigning them offensive characteristics.

I take people individually based on their individual comments. So when I say you are being a jerk and demonstrating your ignorance, you can be sure it is all about you.

-----------------------------------------------

lol SOME generalizations are offensive, not all. It depends on the context. College students are generalized as college students, is that at all offensive? A generalization based on football is not offensive, saying that a certain teams fan base is XXXXXX isn't offensive. It's football, it's competitive, which naturally means that the fan base's are also going to trash talk each other. If you are offended by a Browns fan (for example) generalizing you precious Steeler fans, then you are taking it way too seriously. But even if you are offended, you shouldn't turn it into something that is all about you like you have done several times. Because it's not all about you, even if you are part of whatever was generalized.

Yes d3murph brought race into it, but to be honest, what he said was so absurdly stupid that it wasn't at all offensive. It was just laughable. And lol at anyone so thin skinned that they actually were offended. But I wasn't referring to just that one instance, I've seen you respond to people generalizing Steeler fans like they were only talking about you specifically.

Good for you for taking people individually. But when you are referring to a lot of people, or a large group of people, it's easier/quicker/more convenient to just generalize them than it is to name of every individual you are referring to.

Good for you for taking people individually. But when you are referring to a lot of people, or a large group of people, it’s easier/quicker/more convenient to just generalize them than it is to name of every individual you are referring to.

Actually there not called “white football fans” there called idiots, and you sir, belong in that discussion. I don’t want what James Harrison has, I’d rather have what Tom Brady has. And a bit of hypocrisy in your post, “…All of you fans should just stick to what goes on between those Hash Marks–and chill with telling another human being what to do with life…” but aren’t you telling another human being what to do with life? I actually do feel like I am better than alot of athletes not just African American athletes. I wouldn’t want to be in Erik Ainges shoes, nor Matt Jones. And actually, to tell you the truth, I would say that to James Harison, and any other Pro-Athlete who opens his mouth only to let sewage come out. These guys are role models, act like one. I wish I could thumbs down your post an infinite amout of times, but why would that matter? We are ALL only “keyboard Warriors”…

"Actually there not called “white football fans” there called idiot".

That statement I can agree with you on. That's to far out there. Just as all the silly name calling on a message board. "C'mon man" how tough does that really make you? It's just funny to me.

Now, (this is just my opinion) this whole society bs saying these guys are role models. No there not! There just individuals that just happen to be good at what they do. People make these guys and others with some type of elite standing bigger than they are. Then when they fall on the face or whatever it seems to be some huge let down. " Hello these people are human also!!" There going to make mistakes. You can admire someone for what they have accomplish to get where they are and aim for the same thing. Just when you aim you aim higher and be better.
Kids role model should be there parents and not some person that chances are they probably won't even meet.
Now would I want James Harrison to be a role model for my kid? Heck no!! I do want him to admire his work ethic and drive and not quit. I say to him all the time to get out and work hard for what you want, don't expect anyone to give you anything, never let anyone tell you that you can't do something and never ever quit. Sorry but the whole role model thing is crap.

Manning would have cos tthe Steelers 3 Super Bowls! He is a playoff choker!
Ben 2 rings and a 9-3 post season record

@d3murf-Let me guess your "hard." You probably grew up on the streets and are as tough as they come. The reason people talk about grammar and language is they are trying to keep this country from falling further into the craper you and your kind have dragged us into. Nobody is sounding tough behind a keyboard. Telling Harrison to STFU is just good advice for this overrated, mentally challenged individual. If I ever see Harrison I will make fun of his SB performance. I could care less about Raplessberger and Mendenhall or taking a punch from a wealthy (asking to be sued) individual although I doubt he is dumb enough to take a swing (even though he is hard as you say). Deb is right you sound racist as hell!
