OAK is always one of the worst run defenses in the league every year. Moreno seems to be a beast the more I look at his stats lol.

Let me know when his year 3 matches McFadden’s year 3 stats.

Mostly though this is another example of how hard it is to scout NFL talent. Anyone who watched Knowshon in college would have thought he was going to be great. Its tough to scout these players and running back is the hardest position of all.

This is why if i owned a team I would never ever draft a running back in the first round. I mean of all the starting running backs in the NFL ,32, how many were 1st round picks?? 5 ?? maybe ?? And how many were undrafted 5-6?? Its just to tough. So i never blame a coach for getting it wrong on RB’s but I think you can blame them for drafting any running back in the first round.

Last season, NO ONE could run behind the Bronco line, and lots tried. Moreno was easily the best of them and when he finally got healthy at the end of the season was averaging 80 yards per game or so. A lot more than Over The Hillis was picking up at the tail end of the year.

That all said, you’d trade Moreno to get Hillis back in a split second. Fact.

So you say Hillis dropped off at the end of the year? You also mention that “lots” of runners tried to gain yards behind the Broncos line. Funny, I don’t remember Hillis having much help at all. And with all the help Moreno had and all the help Hillis *didn’t* have, let’s look at some numbers:

MORENO, 2010: 779 yards, 4.3 avg, 7 TDs.
HILLIS, 2010: 1177 yards, 4.4 avg, 13 TDs.

If Hillis hadn’t been beaten down by the end of the year, his average would have been ridiculous. The only reason he wore down is because it was obvious to all the teams playing Cleveland that their passing game was practically non-existent and they were running Hillis constantly, to the point that defenses just started stacking the box.

All that, and “Over the Hillis” still destroyed Moreno’s numbers.

And I agree scubasteve4930, Moreno has been very productive for the broncos. He produced yards. Now i don’t know what goes on in the locker room that may have turned people off. But check his yards. Yea he got hurt last year, but look at games after he went down. How many rushing yards did they get a game after he went down (DON’T INCLUDE TEBOW’S). I should know all other RB’s on the broncos performed poorly, had them on my fantasy team cus I picked running backs last hahaha. Still won my league.

There really isn’t very much accountability for incompetence or piss poor performance in the NFL.

You just get shuffled around to another goldmine position.

On looking to add a running back:
“We did want to address the running back situation in the draft and weren’t able to get that done. We knew going in we weren’t going to be able to fill all our needs, but that’s another area that we will look to in free agency. The things we didn’t address are corner, obviously the D-line has been made a lot of…running back is an area where we need to acquire some depth, and we are going to run the ball more to balance our offense.”

“You can’t have enough of them. If you’re going to run the ball and make it a priority to run the ball, you do need a few guys there that are active on game day. We’re going to be doing everything we can to get better there.”

As I stated in my previous post he has made it aware that we need depth and running back (running the 2 back system)
But when you read that excerpt you will see that he says “obviously the D-line has been made a lot of…”
He mentioned it numerous times that it is imperative that we get some help at the DT position.

Then last year he exploded on scene. He looked like the best back in the league at times. He got slowed down in the middle of the season bc of some nagging injuries, but fought through them and got back to playing like he did in the beginning of the season.

The same problems are basically happening to Moreno that happened to McFadden in the beginning of his career. Now who knows if he will beat it like DMF did or become the bust the DMF was suppose to be. But we should know from expierence that 2 years is to short a time frame to count someone out.

Weeks before the draft all he talked about was how good Shady McCoy was and how he was the best running back in the draft. And how nuts he thought it was that he was falling down draft boards and people were saying he was to small and to slow and that he would be a 3rd down back at best.

All draft day everytime 3 or 4 picks went by he would say Lesean McCoy is still on the board. When it got to the 2nd round and the Eagles pick was coming up he started rattling off players he thought the Eagles might take at positions like safety n d-line and o-line. This is the year before Westbrook got all those concussions and knee problems so no one thought they would go rb that early. But then Goodell called McCoys name and Merrill basically fell out of his seat. He was yelling and laughing like a lil kid. Saying things like “Eagles fans we just got 1 heck of a player, best back in the draft”"Im telling you this kid is special”.

He was dead on too. Shady has out performed them all. He has out performed all but maybe 10 rbs in the entire league. He was what top 5 in yards per carry and I might be wrong but I think he had the most all purpose yards of any back.

My point is its kind of a shame that a guy like Merrill who is just the voice of the Eagles and admittely has no inside connections when it comes to what the Eagles think about players or might do, knew more about what makes a great rb and was better at spotting it then the entire Broncos coaching staff and scouting department.

There is more to this picture than the Wood is laying out there. Moreno’s health has been a disappointment.
He needs to get on the filed this year to keep his job at any rate. It sucks to get hurt but he is of no use to the team if he can’t stay healthy.

Here is the exact quote. Next time do some research of your own before you start blasting other people who do this for a living.

Its no secret that that the two-headed monster at RB is the in thing right now, and for good reason. Finding somebody to pair with Knowshon Moreno is practical and pragmatic, and hardly an indictment against the youngster who has scored 17 TD’s in his brief NFL career, and who ripped off a 5.3 ypc average over the 6 week stretch that Denver had a heathly oline in 2009. Its not like anybody tore it up in Denver last year, what with Ryan Clady at half strength, and the rest of the line riddled with injury and inexperience. Heck, anywhere south, east, north and west of Minnesota, having two quality backs is a necessity, as they even learned in Tennessee, where Chris Johnson was half the player/half the threat he was the year before despite increased opportunities.

Remember that he soured on Cutler before he’d even talked to the guy, wanted Cassell before settling on Orton, then traded for Brady Quinn about two weeks before drafting Tim Tebow…hated, loved, then again hated Brandon Marshall, disliked Peyton Hillis so much he wouldn’t even play him….
