Ex-NFL player Eric Naposki convicted of murder

Eric Naposki, a linebacker who played for the Patriots and Colts in the 1980s, has been convicted of first-degree murder in California.

A jury found Naposki guilty of shooting and killing a wealthy entrepreneur named William R. McLaughlin in 1994.

The case, which went unsolved for 15 years before Naposki was charged in 2009, sounds like something out of a movie: Naposki was romantically involved with a woman who was also romantically involved with McLaughlin, and the two conspired to kill McLaughlin to collect a $1 million life insurance policy.

The woman, Nanette Johnston Packard, met McLaughlin after placing a magazine ad seeking wealthy men, saying, “You take care of me, and I’ll take care of you.” She is also facing murder charges and will stand trial in November.

Naposki faces life in prison without the possibility of parole.
