The inability of the owners and players to reach a deal to end the lockout has resulted in the Texans and Saints calling off an annual joint practice.

The teams have practiced together in August each of the last three years and had planned three days of practice together this year, prior to their preseason meeting on August 20. But Texans coach Gary Kubiak and Saints coach Sean Payton agreed that the uncertainty surrounding the training camp and preseason schedule makes it better to call it off.

“Sean and I really wanted to do it, but we’ve got so much to make up, we thought it would be better to not do it this year and pick it back up next year,” Kubiak said. “It was a mutual decision.”

The lockout’s impact on August practices also includes the Rams, Jets and Giants having training camp at home.
