Bill Hampton Jr., a former executive with the Browns and NFL Properties who most recently worked for UnderArmour, died Wednesday night of a heart attack en route to the airport following the ESPY Awards.

Hampton was 51. He is survived by a 13-year-old son, Jack.

Our good buddy Rich “Big Daddy” Salgado of Coastal Advisors, who described Hampton as a dear friend, tells us that Hampton was so well known, respected, and liked in league circles that his funeral likely will be a who’s who of NFL figures, including a possible appearance by Commissioner Roger Goodell.

Hampton left NFL Properties for the Browns in 1999, eventually becoming the team’s V.P. of operations. He joined UnderArmour in 2006.

His father was the Jets’ equipment manager for more than 50 years. Brothers Clay and Drew work for the the Jets and Jaguars, respectively.
