Lions linebacker says players will return July 25 if deal goes through

Labor optimism has spread throughout the NFL this Friday.   Lions linebacker Zack Follett says he’s gearing up to return to work.

“Just received word it would be the 25th of July we would be able to report back if a deal got done . . . Pending approval by all parties,” Follett wrote via Twitter.

Based on the timeline we passed along earlier this week, this sounds about right.  July 28 is the rough target for when free agency would start, but it wouldn’t be a surprise if facilities are open a little earlier than that.

Somehow, we don’t feel right enjoying all this apparent good news until an agreement is actually announced.

  1. Again the NFL and players display no sense of urgency. Brace yourself for all starters to be broken by week 3.

  2. Imagine when Follett gets healthy we will have Levy, stephen tulloch and or Justin Durant. With Carpenter, Palmer landon johnson and Douggy Hogue. Seems like a pretty deadly Linebacking core with the Silver Crush leading the way

  3. Its funny how zack follet thinks he’s a significant player in the NFL. He was drafted in the 7th round and he’s living up to that title. Short, slow, and the most over-hyped “hard hitter” of all time.
    – Sincerely 10+year Lions fan

  4. I am not a Lions fan but it would be cool to see them do well for once. I can’t remember the last time they had a winning season.

  5. Can’t wait to see the Silver Crush retire Cutler.

Lol, maybe hold off on the nicknames before the Lions have a winning season for the first season in… in… in… hell, how long has it been?

  6. I want my players camped out in front of the building right now so they can get in the second this thing is over.

  7. “Why should it take so long? If owners are voting July 21, players can vote the same day. Everyone should be able to report July 22.”

Duhhh…have you been paying attention to the logistics of restarting the league? There cannot be a player agreement on the CBA until the NFLPA is reestablished and votes. That cannot happen until the owners approve the proposal. The league year has to start, and bunches of contracts may have to be signed before many players attend camp. There is a lot of work that has to be completed in just a few days.

  8. This guy had promise but that neck injury from last year is no joke! I think his career is over before it really began.

  9. Hey, I went out with that gal in the picture with Follett. She must be REALLY old by now.

  10. Can’t wait to see the Silver Crush retire Cutler.

    _ _ _ _ _

Maybe you should wait until the Silver Crush exists before you get too happy. The only thing likely to be crushed by the Lions are your dreams of a winning season.

  11. You know, I’m a lifelong Lion fan, and I’m not seated firmly on the bandwagon that’s saying “Lions win the NFC North!!”, but I’m hoping this year is as interesting as the last four games LAST year.

The Lions actually were doing things. You know, sacking quarterbacks, intercepting passes, causing fumbles, completing passes, some of them for touchdowns, even.

The over/under for Lions’ wins in 2011 will be 7.5 or 8.5. They could easily go 5-11, too. I don’t see them willing more than 10 games while looking at the schedule, with three of the first four on the road and the only two gimmes on the schedule being Denver and the Panthers.

I do truly wish Schwartz had left the defensive line’s nickname alone. They were the Silver RUSH for years, and turning it into the CRUSH reminds me of the Broncos, which reminds me of Josh McDaniel…and you just KNOW that won’t turn out well…although, on reflection he DID send Cutler to the Bears…

But, another season is coming, and soon the more normal PFT postings (Favre, McNabb, Tebow, Raheem Morris, etc.) will return.

    I can hardly wait. :cough:

  12. Hydenja: You better be more concerned who is gonna keep Stafford off his back. Fragile dude, fragile. You’d better worry about Mr. Peppers

  13. Zack Follett, the guy who called his oft-injured starting QB a “china doll,” and then later, in the most bizarre back-pedal ever, attributed his remarks in a really odd youtube video to him being this intense Christian warrior. That was BS and while he’s probably right, or close to being right about the deadline, he probably got that from his agent or other cat in the know. Other than that, I wouldn’t trust a word that comes out of this dude’s mouth. Throws his teammate under the bus to the press and then blames it on his intense devotion to the Holy Spirit. Yeah, that’s stable.

  14. You mean we don’t have to talk about the Lebron James circus and the rest of the WWF-inspired NBA?

We can follow a real professional sports league.

    Oh, goody goody!

  15. Zack Follett better enjoy those facilities while he can. No way he makes the 53 this year.
