When Belichick took over, he found himself being treated like just another football writer; no more no less than anyone else.
Ronnie (and his free bowl of soup newspaper) didn’t take kindly to that.

But hilarity ensued when Borges was forced to cover Belichick and the Patriots while they were winning three Super Bowls in four years. He hated Belichick so much; you could literally feel him grinding his teeth while begrudgingly giving the Head Coach any credit at all.
Does this sound like a good football writer to you? The man’s a hack.

To non Pats fans: Borges was tossed off the job for PLAGIARISM with his boxing writing. He was the most hated Pats writer in the biz (by us fans) until Tomase came along. Why? Because not only do they lie, they have agendas, which I don’t like to see in team reporters. Bloggers? Fine. OPINION columns? Fine. Stories that are SUPPOSED to be factual? Not so much. There’s a reason we like guys like Reiss better. He states things as his opinion when they are..you know…his OPINION.
So who knows if Mankins will do this or not? I’m not willing to say yes or no based on BORGES…that’s for sure.

Mankins does NOT need football financially, he has said, and I believe him. That said the public way he handled his contract fight last year sucked. I am all for the FT or any tag being used ONE TIME ONLY by that team on that player. But that said, I would be disappointed if any of the named plaintiffs got special treatment because it’s not fair to the other guys in the league.

I mean, you do realize that this article is based upon something that a sports writer is speculating on something that Mankins MIGHT do?

There is no basis in fact to believe that he will do this, yet everyone on here is more than willing to fly off the handle attacking him based upon pure conjecture with no FACTS whatsoever to back it up.

What a strange dynamic I’ve discovered over the past few months here- the people on here love football more than anyone, live and die with the sport, and take the time to post comments on a blog dedicated to it.

Yet they seem to harbor a real animosity, distrust and loathing of the men who play it.

2) I don’t mind allowing the franchise tag to only be used on a player once, with the stipulation that the player not miss any preseason or regular season games. None of this holding out for 10 games bs we see now. Under that rule Logan would still be restricted, but could ensure his freedom by arriving on time and playing out the season.

NFLPA has begun contacting some, if not all, of 10 plaintiffs in Brady vs. NFL case about a settlement – a necessary step to end lockout.

That’s just not going to happen. Let me walk you through this in terms that are really easy to understand.

-The Patriots are willing to pay Mankins $10 Million a season.

-Hey, that must mean Mankins is really good, right?

-If he’s really good and he’s a free agent, other teams will want him, and will offer a desirable contract, right?

See how easy that was? Glad to help.

The teams legally cannot refuse to offer him a contract; but the teams can, without colluding with each other, offer Mankins a contract of $200.00, or $20,000.00, or $200,000.00 per year, which GMs will intently ponder considering Mankins past history hold-outs and now the legal vice which he has been persuaded to believe he has on NFL teams. But he can be offered contracts at very low numbers. Or he can be offered huge contracts which require his achieving near-impossible feats. Either way, Mankins will look back and beg for this franchise tag.

Wow, do I ever wish we were face to face so that we could make a wager on whether or not that scenario would play out as you described.

The reason teams put franchise / transition tags on players in the first place is that they know the players would earn more in the free agent market.
