It makes no sense to argue over $320 million from last year and lose out on $200 million a week just during preseason alone.

If these parties had ANY common sense…they would have completed this 4 months ago !!

Sydney Rice to the New England Patriots makes eminent sense—for the right price, of course. That explains precisely why it won’t happen, unless Rice is willing to take the hometown discount in consideration for an opportunity to saddle up with Tom Brady for a shot at the Super Bowl. I wouldn’t think the Pats would be willing to pay him north of $8MM/year. And then there’s last year’s hip injury to consider. Still, Rice would fill a well-defined need for a legit No. 1 WR capable of the “big play,” and help ensure that New England wouldn’t rank second in receiver drops, as in 2010.

No, they couldn’t have. 6 months ago the owners were only willing to talk about what they wanted the players to give up, and the players were only willing to talk about what they expected to keep. Now, both sides are actually negotiating. Owners are getting a larger share of the revenue, and players are getting other things they wanted. That’s the way negotiations are supposed to work. You get something you want, and get the other side to agree by giving them something they want.

Friday is a meeting to explain the new rules to the important people of NFL front offices.

Monday = start of the new year.

It’s pretty obvious the players and the owners are a few minor steps away (or major ones that they are going to work out fast)
