Sorry but they didnt get asked to be a part of the settlement bc of name recognition they got asked to be part of it bc they knew these guys would have the best arguement against the franchise tag and the other areas of the suit. There are alot bigger names in the NFL then Mankins and Jackson. If it was just about name recognition they would pick dozens of guys before those two.

No they used them bc of their expierence last year going against the nfl and the franchise tag. They both held out and lost significant time and money trying to fight against the tag. And Brees and Manning were added not just bc of their names but bc they were going to be franchise tagged next. Thats why these guys were added not just bc of their names but bc they were or were going to be effected the most by the existence of the franchise tag and making those situations public through a law suit was the best for them to put attention on the franchise tag so they could try to get rid of it.

That was 1 of there main goals from jump street. It isnt a coincedence that most of the plantiffs had some kind of previous or impending run in with the franchise tag. Just bc a deal is almost done and the law suit is becoming obsolete doesnt mean the union leadership wants the franchise tag to be ebolished any less. So I dont doubt that they are privately pushing the plantiffs to ask for a life long exemption from the F-tag. Just so in the future when they are argueing that having a franchise tag is wrong, they can point that moment and say "back then you agreed to give life exemptions to the certian players, you guys most have obviously knew that there was something wrong about being able to hold on the rights to a player even after his contract expires, other wise you would have never agreed to do it"

Who knows if thats exactly whats happening. But I do know theres A LOT more going on then the unions just picking these guys bc of there name recognition. and those 4 guys trying to take advantage of it so they can get something extra for themselves.

Another liquored up idiot kicker trying for his 15 minutes of fame. What is the over/under for his tryout in the CFL?

-------------------

hey genius, if you knew at all what you were talking about, you'd know Kluwe's actually one of the better punters in the NFL right now.

And a hilarious guy.

Nice try though

Homeland-He’s not, that Wisc77 dude HATES Brady and LOOOOOOOVES Favre so he will take any opportunity he can to hagiographize Favruh and hate on TB. It’s super annoying and puerile especially when his hero has 0 to do with anything in the article.

Really? Point to one post other the well deserved one in this thread where I "hate" on Brady? And yes, Brady is part of this lawsuit that is holding up the CBA along with the others, so he is not innocent in this either.

I have mostly been on the players side on all this and think with my own limited knowledge that the compromise coming forth is a good deal for both sides. But a few big name players trying to use this for there own and only there own personal gain is disgusting. If these guys can't operate under the rules they helped make for everyone else I really don't need them even if they are some of the best playing right now. and i will now be a chris kluwe fan for life!

I say let them have their special treatment, just so long as they also agree to accept 1 other exemption each.

If they want freedom from the franchise tag, I say the league should insist on Manning and Brees being exempted from the "roughing the passer" rule. Vincent Jackson should be excluded from the protections for a defenseless receiver. Mankins should be exempt from any protection for defensive players cut blocking him in the knees.

The league should insist on this as a concession to all the other players represented in the class action, who Manning, Brees, Jackson and Mankins are fine with being subject to franchise tag.

I never have conversations with people who think it's important to include personal attacks in their posts. Although I'm suspecting that Numbnuts was your personal signature.

Has it even occurred to anyone that this last minute play is an effort of the NFLPA* to grind the axe on the Franchise tag? Show me a player who likes it? I might agree with the negative assessment if this actually leads to a break down in the talks, I don't think it will though.

I'll weigh in on Mankins. Yeah, he thinks he got screwed. But he knew what the playing field was like when he signed his deal and when he held out. He played hardball with the Pats and lost. If he wants to hold out again, that's up to him. His record off the field isn't as good as it is on the field. The punter is correct. These guys want to hold out for better deals for THEMSELVES.

As far as Manning goes, the Colts offered him more than the MVP of the league Tom Brady got. What more does he want (other than Brady's wife)? Some of these guys are pigs.

It would seem to me if ONE player wants something more to settle at the cost of the rest, the PA attorneys have a conflict on their hands!
I wonder if any individual player would want to invest his own money to carry on a very expensive anti trust case against the NFL with substitute counsel?

@rbirving - how dumb are you? Tell me, if you were one of the 1896 other guys who would be risking missing game checks because of the greed of only four others who are already pretty well paid, would you be mad or have the same sentiment.

Don't bother answering, because I know the truth and so does everyone else. Besides, do you HONESTLY think that everyone in the stadium is there to JUST see Manning or Brees? If they deserve that much coin, let them do it without an offensive line, without receivers and without a defense to get them the ball back.
