Bills worst moments since ’87 strike

We take a break from your latest lockout labor pains to look back at a few decades of pain for the Buffalo Bills.

Florio welcomed in new PFT Bills correspondent Luke Russert, who broke down the worst five moments for the Bills since 1987 far better than we could have.  (And he included some surprises.)

Russert and Florio also discuss whether the 2011 Bills could erase some of the pain of the last 24 years.

For Wednesday’s entire show, including interviews with Jets safety Jim Leonhard and Vikings punter Chris Kluwe, head to the PFT Live homepage or download the show on iTunes.

Worst moment for Bills is when someone says, “Things could be worse, at least you’re not stuck in Buffalo.”. Doooh!

Russert should watch that Norwood kick again; It was nowhere close to going in. The side angle shot we always see is actually the view that distorts things and makes it look like the kick had a chance.

I’m still confused why both Buffalo and Miami thought, in 1983, “I know, we should draft a quarterback in the first round….and then we’ll NEVER have to worry about that position again”…..and have stuck to their guns.

Not a fan of the Bills (Cowboys actually – sorry! x2), but certainly an admirer of the Levy teams.

That “Missing Rings” piece on NFL Network was one of the best of the series (including the SB winners) and Levy may have never won an SB, but if there is a “class” and passion HOF, he is a founding/charter member.

The worst moment is the Norwood kick. What else could it be?

A loss like that one is impossible to get over and that team can’t be blamed for something like that. That loss and that miss was so painful the effects were truly irreversible, much like the painful losses by teams like the 60’s Lakers, the 40’s/50’s Dodgers, and the Cubs of the last 2 centuries and the Red Sox of most of the last one.

It’s not like that team ever quit at any point and there weren’t too many teams with more heart. Fear not, Bills fans……your time will come.

Just don’t MOVE…….that would be the real tragedy.

The Bills failed miserably finding Kelly’s sucessor, but not for lack of trying

2nd round pick for Todd Collins
1st and 4th round picks for Rob Johnson (Fred Taylor & Tavian Banks)
1st round pick for Drew Bledsoe (Ty Warren)
1st, 2nd and 5th round picks for JP Losman (DeMarcus Ware, Julius Jones & Sean Ryan)
3rd round pick for Trent Edwards (shouldn’t count but what the heck)

Nix and Gailey will pull the trigger on the guy they feel enamored with, they won’t try to force the issue.

Too true……when you compare it with the Dolphins (and likely a good number of other teams), you have to say the Bills haven’t tried, however, it might say something about scouting and talent evaluation.

Too many misses to be a coincidence.

The Bills appear to be cursed that’s for sure but we the fans never give up hoping things will change and with Nix and Gailey in charge it appears that they are starting to. I think if Fitz gets help from the defense stopping the run and if he plays at least as well as he did last year we could win 6-8 games even with the tough schedule we have this season.
