Dolphins take down Jets gear at team store

JetsDolphins

Well, that didn’t take long.

Following Armando Salguero’s tweet and our post on the matter, the Dolphins will no longer be selling Jets t-shirts at their team store.  Here’s an email sent from Dolphins COO Mike Dee to Salguero, reprinted with the permission of the Dolphins.

“I saw your blog this morning.  You should know that, at our fan’s request, we are about to announce a new policy that we will no longer sell visiting team merchandise at the stadium on gamedays,” Dee writes. “This was a product of offseason focus groups that we did and among the topics that we covered was how we work with fans to create a better home field advantage.

“Our fans felt strongly that this policy should be implemented and we are doing it.  As part of this arrangement with the operator of the team store, we gave them a limited window to sell everything that they had in stock on a discounted basis prior to the start of the NFL season.  With the Mets coming to town this weekend to play the Marlins, they are attempting to move all of their old Jets merchandise this week.  We were unaware of this particular shirt which I am told is a number of years old.  We have requested that this particular shirt be removed immediately.”

We’re glad this important issue is out of the way so we can move on to minor stuff like the labor agreement likely being voted on Wednesday.

what idiots.. i really cant believe they would try and pull some ish like that. lol

what would happen if the Linc’s proshop had Cowboys gear ,, or the giants were selling eagles stuff at their stadium..??

this is the biggest example of why the owners began this lockout. MONEY.. they would even sell oponents gear in their stadiums if it meant a makin a buck.

  3. RexCanCoach says: Jul 20, 2011 11:27 AM

Hey Mike Dee can you also take the same decisive action to field a winning team in 2011-12?

  4. AlanSaysYo says: Jul 20, 2011 11:29 AM

Removal isn’t good enough. Burning would be suitable.

  6. schmitty2 says: Jul 20, 2011 11:30 AM

Could have been worse..they could have given those shirts free to all fans purchasing the beloved 250$ season tickets

why is this even a story? plenty of team stores sell merchandise from opposing teams. it’s just a way to generate revenue from the visiting team’s fans. this isn’t confined to NFL teams either.

  8. t16rich says: Jul 20, 2011 11:31 AM

How is this even an issue for Dolphin fans when you have Fergie as a part owner? I would kick her out before a Jets tshirt.

  9. eaglesnoles05 says: Jul 20, 2011 11:35 AM

You won’t see a cowboys shirt being sold at the Linc, unless it says “Cowboys Suck.” Same principle.

The headline is much more interesting if you read it:
    “Dolphins take down jets.”

As a die-hard Dolphin fan I can honestly say who gives a rats-behind about this?

  12. philwauke says: Jul 20, 2011 11:42 AM

But if a visiting fan is there why not make money off them? It won’t change the outcome of the game.

  13. intrafinesse says: Jul 20, 2011 11:43 AM

If I were a commercial enterprise, and could sell some extra jerseys / visiting team paraphenalia on game day I would be happy to do so. If the Dolphins own the store, thats their choice to forgo that revenue. If they lease out the store to the highest bidder, then they should not interfere with what that store sells, provided its not dangerous or will interfere with the game (like a Vuvuzela ).

Will the opposing teams really be that much more energized because there are an extra 200 fans (out of 40,000 – 70,000) wearing their jersey or waving their flag? Will the Miami fans be intimidated because someone cheering for the opposing team is wearing an opposing Jersey, as opposed to a regular shirt?

Seems childish, and forgoes some revenue. Not a decision I would make.

I don’t know what “teams” you are talking about, but i’ve never seen a cowboys jersey for sale at a Redskins store or at Fed Ex Field.

  15. nyjalleffingday says: Jul 20, 2011 11:50 AM

Not to mention that Jets fans invade Sun Life whenever we play. By the third quarter last year the Green faithful had taken over the stadium and you couldn’t hear all those dumb “feed the wolf” howls over all the J! E! T! S! you heard.

  16. myeaglescantwin says: Jul 20, 2011 11:56 AM

intrafinness.. as an owener money is money, and this really isnt a big deal at all..

but as an owner, i would NEVER DISRESPECT our fans by selling other teams’ gear in my stadium.

if you are an oppenent’s fan, you are lucky to get a ticket. Don’t have a shirt? toooo F’n bad Sally.

  17. phinheads says: Jul 20, 2011 12:07 PM

The worst part about being a Miami fan is that they are such an easy target when things like this happen. Soft environment, soft crowd, soft ownership….if this were the Pats, the whole revenue thing would be a perfectly good reason to sell the shirts, all because they’re the big bad Patriots. But Miami, no way. They’re the new punching bag. It def sucks sometimes.

  18. phinheads says: Jul 20, 2011 12:10 PM

And I love how non-miami fans like to pretend that J-lo and those other clowns are “co-owners”. It’s a god damn South Beach marketing ploy…strictly financial. Mark Anthony and Fergie have no sway in any football operations. So who cares? Again, just another easy jab to take at my poor Fins. The day that they rise to greatness can’t come fast enough. “CANT WAIT”!!!!

Would love to see the fans who go to the Dolphins stadium call the Dolphins out every game when they see oppossing team gear in their team stores since they said they won’t sell it. Hope fans remember this and send PFT emails with non Dolphins gear pictures from Dolphins stadium being sold in their team stores. Another over-reaction because they are struggling to sell tickets and trying to save face in their community. Accept that your a destination NFL city and fans want to visit Miami from other cities, accept that your a transplant area. Sell other team merchandise, run your business not based on opinions from the guy who sits in your upper deck seats.

    nyjalleffingday,

J-E-T-S Jets Jets Jets… That has to be the most annoying and brainless chant in the NFL.

Yes unfortunately for some reason all these Jets fans love South Fl. Wonder why? Maybe because it’s a great city. Like I said before, I would never go to a Jets vs Fins game, its downrite rediculous. As a die-hard dolfan I realize there are more important things in life than a game win or lose, the Jets fans don’t understand that. If they’re winning they’re annoying if they’re losing they’re even worse. I’ll stay home drinking my black label on my couch enjoying the game in the A/C without some drunk guido annoying the hell out of me.

It’s funny how these transplanted new yorkers love the town that virtually ate them up and spit them out..

  21. dspyank2k11 says: Jul 20, 2011 12:18 PM

Honestly, I dont know of any other team store that sells other teams (let alone arch rivals) stuff.

Leave it to those Dolphins selling whatever they can to brew Jimmy Buffetts crappy beer! :)

  23. halo81 says: Jul 20, 2011 12:23 PM

Did someone just say they never saw another team’s jersey at a Redskin’s Store?

    That’s funny.

My parents live in Northern Virginia and when they first moved there we went to the mall to grab some things right before Christmas.

There was an “Official Washington Redskins Store” in that mall.

They had both Giants and Cowboys merchandise all over the store. They didn’t have Eagles merchandise which I did find odd given that they had the other two.

Also, my Aunt lives right in Woodbridge, Va., and they have some place called Potomac Hills Shopping or something and she has bought her Cowboys gear from the Skin’s official store there.

    So, there goes your theory.

That’s what makes them billionaires, a buck is a buck. As a die-hard dolfan sure I would puke a little in my mouth if I saw them selling those shirts in our stadium, (which I never have) but I wouldn’t demand they take them down, I understand that it’s a business at the end of the day. Owners see fanatics as what they are..fanatics. I would be surprised if they actually took them down.

  25. dspyank2k11 says: Jul 20, 2011 12:26 PM

Im a Bills fan and as bad as they are, I have never seen another teams stuff at their proshop.

I live in Pittsburgh, in order to get another teams merchandise you have to go to Ohio. :)

  26. bigcountrybiscuit says: Jul 20, 2011 12:33 PM

vtsquirm – Patriots, Giants, Bills, Yankees, Mets, Pirates, Blue Jays, just to name a few.

I’ve never been to FedEx Field, but I’ll take your word for it.

The point is that this is a non-story. Who cares if the team wants to make a few more bucks from the visiting fans? Answer: pathetic losers, who spend there day whining about the affairs of others

  27. noodlecbs says: Jul 20, 2011 12:33 PM

May as well take down the Dolphins gear too, noone wants that garbage.

  28. benh999 says: Jul 20, 2011 12:36 PM

Queue up another mediocre Fins season. The important issue is purity of the merchandise sold during the offseason in the stadium.

  29. bigcountrybiscuit says: Jul 20, 2011 12:38 PM

dspyank2k11 – Not sure what store you’re talking about, but I’ve been to the Bills official store numerous times–the one adjacent to the field house– and I can recall seeing non-Bills team gear there each time.

I heard that JLo and Marc Anthony are splitting up. What does this mean for The Dolphins? Who gets that part ownership and gets to dance in the skybox and be shown on TV? Will it be a joint custody situation?

  32. dspyank2k11 says: Jul 20, 2011 12:52 PM

    bigcountrybiscuit –

Really? I was there last year for the Steeler game and did not see it at the fieldhouse.

If what youre saying is true, its a shame.

Ralph wont even sell the naming rights to the stadium for an extra million or two, but when it comes to selling other teams merch… *sigh*

So Marc Anthony had no input on Pouncey? I thought JLo’s scouting report had something to do with the Daniel Thomas pick? Hahahahahahaahahaha take it easy man they’re are just hating. What town in the US (with the exception of maybe LA) has hotter women, better weather, and the ONLY undefeated team in the history of the NFL? NONE

We are a QB away from being a contender.

  42. bloggofullofbull says: Jul 20, 2011 2:58 PM

Leave Fireman Ed alone. He has done more for the Phins ticket sales than any other half wit New Yorker. To solve this merchandise issue, I suggest Dolphin Management sell his hat at an auction (with head still attached) to raise money to get J-Lo to dance on the fifty at half time. Issue settled, and every one is a winner. Jets fans get their merchandise sold at the stadium, ticket sales increase (J-Lo dance) and Dol-fans finally have reason to watch a game at the stadium.

  43. cliverush says: Jul 20, 2011 3:34 PM

The Fin’s rely on the snowbirds to fill their hot, stuffy stadium. Any game against the elite of the East Coast fill the place. Pats, Jets, Giants and Philly travel down to the Sunshine state to spend money. Why not cater to these NFL fans? Someone has to pay the rent.

  44. asublimeday says: Jul 20, 2011 3:58 PM

If the Bears store sold fudge packer gear we’d burn the place to the ground.

    philwauke says:
But if a visiting fan is there why not make money off them? It won’t change the outcome of the game.

Where do they do this? I have never seen anything but Packers gear at Lambeau Field, Bills gear at Ralph Wilson or Argonaut gear at Toronto’s Rogers Centre.

Secondly, with all proceeds from sales at the team’s home stadium going directly to that team (being exempt from revenue sharing rules) why would the Jets want the Dolphins making money selling Jets jerseys directly to Jets fans? Would the Packers want da Bears making money by selling Packer jerseys to visiting Packer fans at Soldier Field? I think not.

  46. pigeonpea says: Jul 21, 2011 4:43 AM

Correction: The Argos DO sell NFL merchandise at the Rogers Centre (to promote the NFL games played there) but the only CFL team they carry is their own.
