I sympathize with the older retired NFL players (pre 1980), they are the ones that real need the extra $$, not the greety current players who if they invest their $ properly they should be fine well after they are done playing, unlike those that made the league what it is today!

Who cares? For all the angry talk, once the deal is done and the season starts, the fans will still be there. I don’t care how many internet tough guys rant and rave, the NFL will continue to increase its revenue, and both the owners and players will make more money. As for the players being “the greedy ones!”, it was the owners that opted out of the old CBA and demanded a larger share of the revenue…and they’re going to get it. and before an endless group of pro-owner people make a serious of obvious points, yes the owners had the right to do so. The same is true for the players here. They have the right to not sign off on a deal until they know what all is in the deal. Oh, btw, it’s kind of hard to give absolute approval of an incomplete offer. The offer that was sent to the players left issues like the settlement of the anti-trust case and the lockout insurance case still unfinished. That’s why the Executive Committee gave its conditional approval, clearing the way for a quick final approval once those issues are dealt with. Giving full approval of the deal they had before them today would be like you dropping your car off at the mechanic and leaving him with a blank check. Yeah, you’ll get your car fixed, but you have no idea what it’s going to cost you until it’s too late.

It was a tweet, and most likely made in response to a massive number of frantic (and in some cases using language every bit as abusive as yours) tweets sent to him. This was most likely his exasperated response to his twitter followers to let them know that everything hasn’t fallen apart and that there’s no reason to panic.

Why do they think they are owed this 320 million? The greed of the players knows no bounds!

the $320 million represents the amount of benefits that the players lost is the uncapped year. So, they’re not actually owed the money. It’s a case where the players got a great overall deal last time out, but dropped the ball on the terms of what would happen if the owners opted out. the players did, however, win the lockout insurance case. So, why not knock out two issues in one move by settling the lockout insurance case for, I don’t know, $320 million? It represents $10 million per team, and wouldn’t cost them anything more than what they would have paid last year in a normal year. It would also dispose of the lockout insurance case, which could cost them even more if they wait for Doty to rule on the damages. Also, if you want to talk about greed, take a look at how far below the cap teams like the Bengals and Bucs are going to be. We’re talking about $50 million each. Between not having to pay for the normal benefits package, taking advantage of the temporary delay in free agency, and the teams that spent under the normal salary floor, the owners used every trick and loophole in the book to pocket as much money as possible last year. I didn’t hear too many people complaining about that. Now, when the players are trying to get just a part of that back, all of a sudden they’re the living embodiment of greed? A little perspective please. Both sides use the rules to gain as much for themselves as possible. Either accept it, or condemn both sides equally.

If a few owners had gotten into huge bidding wars over players and the players had received more than 52% of the pie during the uncapped year, would they be lining up to pay back the extra money and benefits they received.

This discussion of the $320M makes it sound as though this issue never came up or was addressed in the course of negotiations which seems highly unlikely, unless the negotiators and lawyers were dumb enough to believe that the players wouldn’t care about hundreds of millions of dollars.

They’re used to having a smart kid do this for them. They probably spent half the afternoon at Barnes & Noble looking for CBA Cliff’s Notes.

Typically, the more hours you put into something- construction, accounting, transportation, etc- the quicker you can reach those goals.

A negotiation is different, and sometimes it really is best for all sides to regroup.
