Kevin Kolb and Larry Fitzgerald have already practiced together

Kevin Kolb AP

Let’s take a brief break from the labor brouhaha for our second most popular offseason activity: Kevin Kolb talk.

Craig Morgan of the FOXSportsArizona.com reports that Kolb and Cardinals wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald already had a throwing session together at Arizona State earlier this July.

Fitzgerald runs a big group of player workouts in Minnesota which included Kyle Orton at one point, but this was a little different.  It was private and apparently intended to be kept quiet.

In other Kolb-Arizona news, Sal Paolantonio said on the Colin Cowherd show Thursday that Kolb is already looking for real estate in Arizona. We still think Seattle will have a say in all this before things are done, but the signs have been pointing to the Cardinals for a little while now.

One thing we know for sure..

Andy Reid wants serious compensation for trading Kolb.

Whether there are multiple teams wanting to trade or not, don’t be surprised that potential trading partner(s) will be led to believe it.

Good marketing creating a demand that may/may not be there.

Bottom line, there are teams out there that get infactuated with a player, and way over-spend to get him. Will that happen in Arizona? Or Seattle? We’ll probably know by the end of the weekend.

Knew we wouldn’t make it through the day without another Kolb article. You guys never disappoint.

  3. hawkeye6 says: Jul 21, 2011 5:13 PM

A little bit of off-season shenanigans? Can’t imagine the teams/organizations were 100% unaware.

Kevin Kolb + Arizona = playoffs for the Cardinals, its really that simple. About 97% of the people who insist Kolb can’t play haven’t seen him play. That includes people who currently work for ESPN. They look at his bio, see that he went to University of Houston and that’s all they need to know….

It’s going to take a receiver as good as Fitzgerald for Kolb to because a legit starter in this league. Looks like the Eagles are going to “AJ Feeley” the Cardinals.

  7. manderson367 says: Jul 21, 2011 5:18 PM

Yes Kevin Kolb is an unproven QB, but as long as Anderson is never under center again as an Arizona Cardinal, I’m happy.

  8. cowboysfan18 says: Jul 21, 2011 5:19 PM

So what, he’s practiced with Orton too.

  9. mrlynch33 says: Jul 21, 2011 5:21 PM

HAHA YES!!!! The Cards are gonna be awful! They will give up DRC and a pick for a player who hasn’t done squat yet! Believe the hype on Kolb ARZ, your defense will be worse than ever.

  10. terrellblowens says: Jul 21, 2011 5:21 PM

This report gives the Eagles a lot of leverage when they resume their trade discussions

  14. trbowman says: Jul 21, 2011 5:25 PM

What Josh said. If the Cardinals had Kolb last year they win they win the division. I think they can with him this year, too.

    Bring him on.

  15. hunst009 says: Jul 21, 2011 5:29 PM

Its nice getting news about actual football news rather than the lockout!!!!

  16. stampede101 says: Jul 21, 2011 5:31 PM

Kolb for Fitz, straight up….do it.

  17. daburgher says: Jul 21, 2011 5:31 PM

I am so happy that the steelers let Ken Whisenhunt go and hired Mike Tomlin… Dude makes the worst trades

  18. nowathand twitter.com/Chris_M_Bach says: Jul 21, 2011 5:33 PM

I would simmer those expectations down a little, joshuavkidd. Arizona’s offensive line was one of the worst in the NFL last year. They will need to get that fortified and, also, Whisenhunt is not a good play-caller. Maybe Kolb should call most of his own plays.

  19. steelers4385 says: Jul 21, 2011 5:34 PM

Hey everyone. Figure id take our minds off this lockout for a bit and have a little random debate. Why is it everyone is always all over larry fitzgerald. This is my opinion but i think he is a little overrated. Good? Most def. Spectacular? No. The year they went to the superbowl calvin johnson had about 100 less recieving yards and tied him for tds in regular season. Calvin had 5…yea… Five different qbs that year. And he continues to out perform him. Larry had his best times with a future hall of fame qb and a array of recievers to take pressure off him. Calvi. Had no one. And honeslty… I hate hearing that his production dropped due to having 3 different qbs this year. My opinion is calvin is the 2nd best reciever in the nfl right now behind andre…which i think wont be for long. Id love to hear some opions on this cause im sick of all this lockout talk.

  20. cowboysfan18 says: Jul 21, 2011 5:37 PM

Anyone remember the names David Klingler and Andre Ware? Yep, a few other UH QBs.

After only 7 starts, NO ONE has really seen him play, which is what makes all of this ridiculous hype surrounding him all the more laughable. What we HAVE seen of him wasn’t the least bit impressive. 6-10 + Cardinals = possible division winner in that toilet of a division.

  22. kolb2fitz says: Jul 21, 2011 5:43 PM

Cardinals are a force once they sign Kolb. Gets the ball rolling for them to resign fitz, get the rookies in “camp” then hit the ground running. The rest of the west is so pathetic there is no way anyone gets in their way.

Hell, they were in it until the end last year WITH DEREK ANDERSON! HA

    Good for ‘Zona

your absolutely on point.. Fitz is defintely overrated. Arent you glad Whisenhunt isn’t our head coach making terrible trades? I’m glad the Rooney’s took a chance on the unknown Tomlin.

  24. hobartbaker says: Jul 21, 2011 5:48 PM

Kornpone looking for real estate that is quiet, out of the way, and “preferably overrun by wild hogs.”.

  26. eaglesnoles05 says: Jul 21, 2011 5:50 PM

49ers Rams and Seahawks D’s all gonna be better. Arguably, the 9ers D is good now. And spags in STL is bringing STL’s D along. If you don’t know, you don’t know. But they will all be better. Even with Kolb in Arz, it’s a fight for the NFCwest..

  27. deadeye says: Jul 21, 2011 5:53 PM

Kolb and Fitz broke no rules. During the lockout players under contract from one franchise are allowed to contact players from another franchise and arrange to have practices with them. It’s all part of the expired CBA, look it up.

  28. careerender56 says: Jul 21, 2011 5:53 PM

Good news, now if/when Vick gets banged up the Eagles have no quality back up

  29. capslockkey says: Jul 21, 2011 6:02 PM

    @steelers4385

..because of what the guy did in the 2008 playoffs. I don’t remember seeing a postseason run by a receiver like that ever.

  30. cincinnasti says: Jul 21, 2011 6:08 PM

  31. joshuavkidd says: Jul 21, 2011 6:13 PM

leave it to a cowboys fan to introduce the dumbest argument on the planet… Kyle Boller and Pat Barnes were terrible so Aaron Rodgers is gonna suck! Oh wait a minute….

  32. thehighhat says: Jul 21, 2011 6:17 PM

Still won’t lift them out of the cellar. Have you seen their O-line? Kolb won’t make it to game 3!

  33. kegowhisky says: Jul 21, 2011 6:19 PM

Andy Reid has proved to be a shrewd dealer, especially in QBs as evidenced by his willingness to send McNabb to the Skins last year. However it’s being done, a great buzz about Kolb abounds on let’s face it, a relatively unproven product.

Caveat emptor – let the buyer beware!

  34. kspl1 says: Jul 21, 2011 6:26 PM

I am so sick of hearing about Kevin kolb. You would think he is a 4-time pro-bowler. Why would anyone want him over real experienced, productive qb’s. Upside is overrated

  35. anonymouslyanonymouscommentor says: Jul 21, 2011 6:27 PM

So I guess everyone screaming “Kolb hasn’t done anything yet” wishes their team would trade all their draft picks every year?

Because he is good! And he caught all those balls in his Warner days WITH Boldin lined up across from him. I dont see many people on here trying to say Fitz is as good as Calvin so I can’t figure out why your complaining. I realize Fitz torched your team in the SB but you still won the game

  37. moneymike23 says: Jul 21, 2011 6:41 PM

Great! I drafted Fitzgerald on my fantasy team.

  38. goldrush36 says: Jul 21, 2011 6:55 PM

Kolb = playoffs people amaze me. They BARELY made the playoffs twice with a HOF QB in Warner. They were never a dominate team even in their own division. So yeah I guess an unproven QB will be better for them than that HOF QB. smh

  39. laeaglefan says: Jul 21, 2011 6:58 PM

Why would anyone want Kolb over real experienced, productive QBs?

Good question, but which one who is available would you choose over Kolb? We already know their failures. At least there’s still some mystery to Kolb. He’s shown enough in his few chances that there is at least a glimmer of hope that he can be the savior that some are making him out to be. Can anyone truthfully say the same about any of the other QBs who will be available on the open market?

  40. joshuavkidd says: Jul 21, 2011 7:04 PM

No one’s calling Kolb a hall of famer… we’re saying based on when he has started and finished a game he averages over 250 yards a game and a completion % over 66%.

Not sure how much you have to see beyond a 73.2 passer rating and more INTs than TDs in an extremely QB-friendly system with top-level receivers. Dude got beaten out by a never-was that was in prison for a couple of years.

  42. rabidmike says: Jul 21, 2011 7:05 PM

I love the self-loathing Eagles fans, “We suck, have never won a Superbowl either, in a decade with the same coach making the same decisions every year, but oh by the way the Cardinals/Seahawks are dumber and are gonna totally get screwed by us” Just admit you are pissy over the 2008 NFC Championship and move on. I also like the new twist, “Fitz is over rated”, hope that guy is a Lions fan, way to represent. Don’t even get started on Niners fans. Im sure Kolb will be much worse than Alex Smith. By the way our o-line is deeper than your front 7. Minus Lawson, and minus Franklin and Spikes and probably McDonald. And to everyone else, you guys seem have a lot of fear of the laughable Cards being good. We love it and triple digit heat here in the desert.

    ————————————-

What is wrong with you nitwits. Would you rather hear more about the Lockout? It is pretty simple really. Kolb is the best available QB out there, SO WHO ELSE ARE THEY GOING TO TALK ABOUT? Would you rather hear about McNabb? Or Farve? To me it is refreshing to hear about another QB other then Farve this year. I’m curious as to how this Kolb situation plays out. Seattle & AZ both need a QB and whichever one lands Kolb will probably win the Division. How can you come to a Football Site and complain about one of the biggest potential Available Players being a story? I can’t wait until I see how this unfolds. Football’s Back!!!!!!!!

  44. bigbadjohneaglesnm says: Jul 21, 2011 7:24 PM

Look I’m gonna break it down for you nice n slow Kolb haters. A QB makes a team, if you could just slap any arm the cardinals would have won the pathetic NFC west last year, They had DRC as a corner last year what did that get you? Kolb may have not proven his worth YET!!! but, the cards all ready proved that a Anderson or a Skelton can’t get the job done! breston n fitz can’t make you into a great QB, they can make an awful QB look better but you can shine up a terd n make it look better but it doesn’t change the fact that it’s still a terd!! Eagles have all the leverage u can’t find a better QB than Kolb right now, Eagles have other n maybe better options at cb, mmmmmmm there is this shut down cb named nhamdi available. So you don’t like what hand yer card fans then suck it!!!!

  45. jacksaysfu says: Jul 21, 2011 7:25 PM

Kolbs INTs almost all came on late game hail marys. Phillys line wasn’t that good last year and Kolb won player. of the week twice. . Ariz is gonna get a good QB, so if you haven’t been to lehigh keep your flawedOpinion to yourself

  46. tonybabo20 says: Jul 21, 2011 7:36 PM

I think it is interesting that Kolb is looking for homes in Arizona. It makes me think that he already knows he is going to the Cards. I think back to the draft and remember the rumor that Kolb was traded to the cards and that the Peterson pick was really Arizona picking for the Eagles. You never know but if he is looking at homes and coming out saying he imagines himself in Arizona then it has to be he knows he is going there.

  47. kspl1 says: Jul 21, 2011 9:07 PM

I would take orton over kolb all day. Kurt Warner was warming the bench when he resurrected himself with az. So I would also take Hasselbeck, Mcnabb or Palmer if he was available. I’m just not sold on kolb. Sorry
