Bengals declare lockout to be over

107687535_crop_650x440 Getty Images

And now for something we think you’ll really like.  But some players possibly won’t.

At a time when it is critical for the NFL to stop pressuring the players to vote on the proposed labor deal that would end the lockout, the Bengals have sent out a mass e-mail declaring the lockout to be over.

(If we’d all simply been told that one NFL team would do this, wouldn’t the Bengals have been the first guess?)

The subject line declares, “Lockout is over; You ready for some football?”  And the first paragraph of the message from Katie Blackburn and coach Marvin Lewis (I’ve got a feeling Marvin didn’t get the e-mail that he’d be “signing” this e-mail) reads as follows:  “We are excited to let you know that the NFL has reached a new Collective Bargaining Agreement that allows the entire NFL season to be played this year.”

The only problem, of course, is that a new CBA hasn’t been reached.

NFL, we implore you.  Back off and let this proverbial pot of coffee properly percolate.

If the NFLPA* were pulling this stuff I suppose it would be viewed as fair and just, right?

This story only gets better…………..the Bungles are up to their old tricks!

    Latest update:
Chad Ocho Cinco has reported to camp and is catching balls from Carson Palmer!! Oh wait……that would only happen in Bengal fans’ dreams!

  3. berniemadoffsides says: Jul 22, 2011 9:22 AM

Why couldn’t it be the Patriots or the Packers or Giants? You know, some kind of storied, legitimate franchise that everyone respects… ugh. lol

  4. readimgram1 says: Jul 22, 2011 9:22 AM

    Way to go Bungles.

  5. chatham10 says: Jul 22, 2011 9:22 AM

They meant “lockup” for their players should be over, not lockout.

Seriously, what the h*ll is wrong with this franchise?

  7. njdevil7 says: Jul 22, 2011 9:24 AM

This isnt the first time the Bengals got something wrong.

For god’s sake… of course it’s Mike Brown. How can a NFL owner have so much contempt for his players?

I don’t really see how this is public pressure Mike. The fans already are voicing public pressure on the players regardless of this. The NFL can/could have end/ended the lockout whenever they see fit. They aren’t applying any more pressure than the fans.

    That time is now.

  17. fartography says: Jul 22, 2011 9:36 AM

It would have been sweet if her email read “The lockout’s over…Carson hit the road LOL”

  18. schmitty2 says: Jul 22, 2011 9:37 AM

Can they vote to just keep the Bengals locked out?

  19. laeaglefan says: Jul 22, 2011 9:37 AM

Kevin Kolb has taken up residence in a Phoenix area hotel, waiting for official word that he can report to his new team.

I agree that the owners should back off a little…maybe for the rest of Friday, but come on NFLPA. Get a sense of urgency here. The whole football world is waiting on you. If this drags on more than a few days they will be accused of purposely delaying the agreement to cut time off of training camp.

  20. readimgram1 says: Jul 22, 2011 9:37 AM

I wish the Bungles would declare stupid to be over… Of course that would end their franchise…

  21. arizonaben11 says: Jul 22, 2011 9:38 AM

Honestly, from a business standpoint, this is a pretty smart and gutsy move. Put all the pressure for the deal right back on the NFLPA. You can’t doubt Katie and Mikey-boy’s business savvy…..who else can put out a sub-par product year after year and still keep making gobs of money from schmucks like me?

  22. h8r2218 says: Jul 22, 2011 9:38 AM

    NOT

  23. cjsports says: Jul 22, 2011 9:39 AM

Being from Ohio I like the L.A. move, thr Bengals are a joke and a embarassment to the great state of Ohio. Hell they can move across the river to KY for all I care, just move!

  24. chuckyd97 says: Jul 22, 2011 9:40 AM

  27. realitypolice says: Jul 22, 2011 9:44 AM

So to say this isn’t surprising is an understatement.

  28. nowathand twitter.com/Chris_M_Bach says: Jul 22, 2011 9:45 AM

Roger Goodell felt bad at how dominant the Steelers and Ravens were in the division last year and figured he’d give the Bengals a head start.

  29. dolphindad says: Jul 22, 2011 9:46 AM

  30. bearskoolaid1985 says: Jul 22, 2011 9:48 AM

    They just don’t get it.

  31. jimphin says: Jul 22, 2011 9:49 AM

Players can’t handle pressure? Are you serious?

What, are these players really a bunch of girls? They must all be on their period because they are just way too sensitive right now.

We have to wait a few days for the hormones to normalize.

  32. dickroy says: Jul 22, 2011 9:49 AM

  33. rexloveshisfeet says: Jul 22, 2011 9:51 AM

  34. peytonwantsaflag says: Jul 22, 2011 9:53 AM

I’m on Brown’s side on this one. The lockout is over, maybe next time they’ll hire smarter representation.

  35. phinheads says: Jul 22, 2011 9:58 AM

Loser owner, loser team, loser coach. Can anyone blame Palmer? The guy gets drafted by these losers, pays his dues, puts up with that mouth Chad Johnson, a million arrests and distractions and never complained. That owner should be paying for Carsons moving expenses instead of trying to play tough guy. What a loser Mike Brown is. I have no choice but to feel bad for their fans.

  36. adstout says: Jul 22, 2011 9:59 AM

Bengals fan here….don’t ask me why….

doesn’t surprise me the Bengals do this. Have they ever got anything right?

Mike Brown = worst person in sports

They are 35 million under the cap. Finally going to force that old man to spend a little money. Still won’t force him to hire a GM and build an indoor practice facility like every other team.

  37. mammothfan says: Jul 22, 2011 10:00 AM

calm down people, it was just Chris Cooley pretending to be Mike Brown so he could move Carson Palmer to Washington.

  41. abengalfan says: Jul 22, 2011 10:05 AM

This is just sooo Bengalesq, 1st time in 20+ years they are pro-active and they still mange to screw it up.

What is interesting is that Katie signed the letter, not Mikey.

  42. whitetail28 says: Jul 22, 2011 10:12 AM

Yes. Glad Cincy had some balls to push the issue. You have to take some steps to keep a blowhard like Smith from finding another excuse. If the players got buffaloed by the nfl its their own fault. it should have been drafted (and Im sure it was) during negotiations and agreed upon before a vote by either side. Of course the players are actually gna get us average folks to believe that the owners took some whiteout and changed the wording!!! lol
Its also kind of funny that the player reps would state daily that they werent very informed on the negotiations and now that they read them there were some (minor) issues changed by the owners?? Even before they read the dang thing???
lol D Smith, you sir are a blowhard and its too bad the players wont see it till its too late.
Hurry folks!! Read this!! Ive posted this type of thing before here and it always gets deleted. feel free to form your own judgments other then what posters write here cause profootballtalk monitors what you are reading here. Kinda like having a democratic commercial on a republican station.

The lockout is over, Pash stated at the press conference that the facilities would be open on Saturday. He did not say that was contingent on a vote. He did say that the league year was contingent on a vote though.

You may have uncovered the root of the problem.

The Bengals last playoff win was 20 years ago.

Besides, it was well documented that Paul Brown hated email. He was more of a Twitter guy.

  48. dannymacbengalsfan says: Jul 22, 2011 11:22 AM

Ok all you Bengal haters lay off, yes Mike Brown is an idiot, but the Bengals are not the worst franchise in the last 10 years of the NFL
What about Detroit? Least amount of wins from 2000-2010 in the NFL – The Detroit Lions, the only team to go 0-16!!!
    1.Detroit 48 total wins
    2. Houston 55 total wins
    3. Cleveland 62 total wins
    4. Arizona 67 total wins
    5. Oakland 70 total wins
    6. Buffalo 70 total wins
    7. Cincinnati 72 total wins
Houston has never been to the playoffs, Cleveland has never been to a super bowl, Arizona has been bad for a long time, Oakland has an owner who likes to waste money on bad draft picks – busts like J-Russell — Buffalo well they suck. so the next time you Bengal Haters want to take shots make sure those 6 other teams are mentioned in the same breathe.

  49. supashug says: Jul 22, 2011 11:35 AM

  50. quizguy66 says: Jul 22, 2011 11:46 AM

I think the main reason the players are unsure about this deal is that Mikey Boy voted “Yes” to the CBA. All logic dictates that this must mean the players get screwed.*

    -QG

    * – or the other owners drugged Mikey Boy and lifted his arm when the vote was taken, “Weekend at Bernie’s” style.

  53. granadafan says: Jul 22, 2011 1:04 PM

Bungles get it wrong again. This is a publicity stunt.

You wouldn’t sign a rental agreement with a landlord with whom you’ve had a long dispute without taking the time to read every single line. Why do you expect the players to suddenly agree without reading it?

Reading the many negative comments, it’s reasonable to come to the conclusion that many of the posters are 1) paid PR staff by the league; b) naive and ignorant; or c) just want to blame someone.

One of the worst owners in sports, multiple players with arrest records, loudmouth receiver that thinks he’s better than he really is, Qb that would rather retire than take another snap with the team. Gee, how could anyone think about hating on this team??

  56. dannymacbengalsfan says: Jul 22, 2011 2:01 PM

abengalfan I totally agree my friend with you, I guess I’m just a hold for hope dreamer — born and raised Bengals fan who never stopped rooting for the Bengals…Mike Brown is a bad owner and is way behind the times of the rest of the teams in the NFL for sure, but has far as the worst team there are worse teams for sure on a win loss column…But yes they are a joke when it comes to Mike Brown, I guess I keep hoping for the good ole days when Boomer, Ickey, Brooks, Holman and the Swat Team ruled the jungle to come back…Hopefully our Young Guns of Dalton, Shipley, Gresham, Simpson, Green revive the team in the next few years…I can dream I guess. Thank you “abengalfan” for the reality Check.

  57. dannymacbengalsfan says: Jul 22, 2011 2:46 PM

    Hey schmitty2

Yes the Bengals lead the NFL in arrests with 32
Minnesota has 30, Denver, Jacksonville, KC, Miami and Tennesse have 25 — this isnt a Bengals problem it’s an NFL problem…

Palmer isnt the first player to demand trade or retire…Ocho isnt the first loud mouth cry baby WR either (MOSS, TO).

But Yes they are an easy target to slap around.
If you dont live in the city the perception is a little different on the out side looking in….Cincinnati is the land of fair weather fans, just ask the reds and bengals…When the win they have great fans when they suck everyone is jumping off the band wagon. I wish our fans were like Buffalo and the Cubs, sell outs no matter what.
