I cant believe he cant get a tryout with an NFL team. If he is now willing to put the work in the film room and accept a back up role, it is worth a shot. One of his biggest issues early in his career is he didnt put in the time in the film room and once the knee injury diminished his physical skills he couldnt rely on them anymore and his lack of prep showed.

As for Moss making Culpepper I always laugh at the “fans” who spout this line.

The year Culpepper broke all those records in ’04 Moss was either injured on the bench, serving as a decoy, or playing at 20%.

That was the year Daunte Culpepper made Nate Burleson a household name for a season. How has Nate fared since he lost Culpepper BTW? Ya, that’s what I thought.

Wow, really? Is Culpepper a QB that we’re calling one of the greats now? What has he done to gain that kind of status? No one outside of Minnesota thinks he was anything more than very, very average.

Great player in his prime, but not the guy to teach a young player how to play quarterback.

some QB’s in the NFL are trash, Culpepper can still play, if anyone watched any of the UFL games last year he looked decent. & like the article says, Culpepper would have been better then any of the Cardinals QB this past year, Fitzgerald would have preferred Culpepper to be throwing him the ball, then I dunno whoever else they had.

Culpepper can still sling it, Detroit years should not count, Tom Brady would have went 0-16 with that team & coaching staff.

Culpepper is the ultimate underdog now, and DO WE NOT ROOT for underdogs in America? Yes we do, we love them and support them…

and if it wasnt for Lane Kiffin’s AWFUL coaching ability he probably would have been better with the Raiders, he played well in some games, but the mistake was starting Josh McCown week 1 instead of Culpepper and then playing musical chairs switching back and forth between the 2 all year…

Culpepper will get another shot in the NFL.

Culpepper put together three great pro bowl seasons that 90% of NFL QBs have never been close to having.

But go ahead and say he was a one year wonder ala Scott Mitchel if it makes you feel better.

Daunte Culpepper was one of the best QB’s the league has ever seen when throwing on the move. However now that he’s been severely slowed from that knee explosion a few year back, that vital part of his game is gone.

That however does not mean this guy can’t be one of the better back up QBs in the league. Id sign him for that spot in a heartbeat.

Give it a shot Daunte, I miss seeing that freakish 265lb linebacker frame barrel over pursuing DB’s.

Don’t get me wrong. I don’t think he’s going to light the NFL on fire or anything. However, he is better than a lot of crap out there now. Also, just so you know in 2004 when he had his runner up MVP season he was without Randy Moss for a good part of that season due to injury. He had 4717 yards passing and only about 800 of it went to Moss. Nate Burleson is the one that had a great season that year. I do want to point out to you that I do agree with your logic though. Culpepper did benefit from having a great WR in Moss and Carter in his early days. One big reason for his falling was he never learned how to read defenses so when he had to become a different type of passer (pocket passer) it hurt him tremendously. Let me put it this way. Right now the Vikings have Rhett Bomar slated at 3rd string. I’m pretty sure I would want Caulpepper over him as one example.

When playing for the Lions, Culpepper demonstrated poor decisionmaking and, even worse, no heart. It’s all on tape. It’s not terribly surprising another NFL team hasn’t “taken a chance” on him.

Maybe we should bring back Vinny Testaverde as well? Do you realize how asinine this statement sounds? Culpepper had one great year with a young and dedicated Randy Moss. He has failed at every juncture since then. He hasn’t had anything left for years now and thinking he does based off of what happened 7 years ago is insane.
