Mase is reasonably healthy and can still play. If he doesn’t retire, he will be a valuable addtion to most any team that signs him.

The Ravens also drafted Tandon Doss and they’ve got David Reed from last years draft that they really like. They also signed James Hardy. They’ve got wr’s. The problem is that outside of Boldin they are all unproven but I guess they’ve got to get these guys on the field sometime. Now appears to be it.

Heap is the most startling and as a Ravens fan its much more heartbreaking. Unlike Reed, Heap’s backups actually had a shot to step up and push Heap off the roster because he missed 3 games. They couldnt do it. The Ravens need Heap. And if they know whats good for them they will get him back. I am not ready to retire my 86 jersey.

I realize that this is the result of having a salary cap lower than 2009 (and an uncapped 2010) but he release of Mason and Heap seems nuts to me.

If you gice Flacco a letter grade of an A or B rated QB; he’s easily a B or C without these two.

As to the moves: Kelly Gregg has been a warrior, but they have his replacementS …yes, plural…Todd Heap has been an oft-injured stud & great guy…but they have his replacementS…yes, plural. Willis Macgahee has been a nice player. Nothing spectacular, and sometimes inconsistent. His contract was way too high for ’11. They believe they have his replacement (and don’t be surprised if his name is LeRon McClain who we all know can carry the rock). D Mase is a tough one, but we need someone to stretch the field. They’re not going to bank on T Smith. Steve Smith? Maybe. I assume they sign a speedy veteran receiver, keep McClain (if they don’t keep him, look for Vonte Leach and C Peerman at backup to Rice) & Yanda…and then what do they do??? I’d like to see a solid pass rusher (Osi?) or corner (Namdi?)…we shall see…

GREAT moves by the Ravens. All four of these guys are past their primes, and we need to make room for younger, faster players. To that idiot up there, Ray Lewis may be getting slower, but his leadership is unquestioned, and still puts up productive numbers. Ozzie has something big planned, whether its Nnamdi Asomugha or Santonio Holmes, just watch.

If you look where Anquan Boldin’s season last year started trending downward it was when Mason started crying about a lack of touches.

I think the FO felt like Flacco was forcing the ball to Mason. Need to get your best the receiver the ball and that’s Anquan Boldin

Heap was a Steeler killer! Glad he is gone! Get Steve Smith because he only shows up against bad teams and disappears in big games. Also go after Santonio “wake and bake” holmes! Ed Reed and Holmes woudl get along just fine…

Steelers fan here. I’m shocked that Mason and Heap are released. They’re great players who are the core of that offense. Best of luck to them.
