It’s still not known whether the new CBA, to which the two sides reportedly have agreed in principle, will allow the players to pull the plug early after seven of the 10 full years.
Peter King of SI.com reports that, as of Sunday night, a two-way opt-out provision was in play, with specific triggers giving either party the ability to pull the plug after only five years.
Again, it’s not known whether this provision made its way into the final deal. But it appears that the ability to walk away will be tied to something that objectively would indicate that the deal isn’t as good as advertised.

At least we don’t have to worry about this crap for at least 7 years.
Yes, because that is exactly what we need. To give these greedy @$$H***s the opportunity to do this to the fans again in 5 years.
Way to go NFL way to think of the fans!
In all honesty, who cares? Free agency has begun!
I wouldn’t mind an opt-out as long as it would be tied to a clause that forces both sides to begin and continue negotiations within 30 days of the opt-out.
I don’t understand why the players would even need an opt out. They will be making huge money and do not have to worry about any league expenses. They are already getting a large percentage of revenues (not profits) and a larger percentage seems unlikely at any point. If there is a side that could potentially start “losing” money it would be the owner due to increased operating costs.
I wonder how easily manipulated those “triggers” are.

Reading is hard.
See you in 5 years
Hmm, players not liking contracts and renegotiate? Then not showing up for camp, complaining that they are underpaid based on contracts they accepted previously? If that’s suprising to you than you must have been vacationing on mars the past 15 years…
I thought we were in the trust tree…
