Bengals owner Mike Brown said Tuesday what everyone expected Mike Brown to say.
“I’m not expecting [Carson Palmer] to be back. Carson signed a contract, he made a commitment. He gave us his word. We relied on his word and his commitment. We expected him to perform here. If he is going to walk away from his commitment we aren’t going to reward him for doing it,” Brown said via the Cincinnati Enquirer when asked about a possible trade.
Ouch. We don’t expect Brown to change his mindset until 2012, when he could trade Palmer for the same 2012 picks that other teams might offer right now.
We still think Palmer should just show up to force the issue.
Yes, the Bengals could actually make him play football and make eight figures in 2011, but that has to be better than missing a season during what should be Palmer’s prime.
The Bengals are prepared to block a Palmer power play for now, but things could get tricky in 2012. Showing up could force the issue.
