To go off of what smartbutlazy says, the Panther offered Peppers a deal that would have made him the richest defensive player ever, but he declined on multiple occasions. Maybe you guys should have mentioned that in your report.

First off, the contract is not 6 years for $76 million, but for $72 million, nearly $20 million less than Peppers, a significant chunk of money that can be used to go after other free agents. I don't know how in the world an agent can say the two contract are comparable......really.........$20 million dollar difference and their comparable?

Secondly, everyone close to the Panthers organization knows that Peppers wanted out. Carolina tried to sign him multiple times to the largest contract for a DE in history and they were always rebuffed. We'll see how he does when he starts taking games off in Chicago and how he handles the criticism, he's not in Charlotte anymore.

"Still, it’s hard not to wonder why the Panthers wouldn’t have simply coughed up $91 million over six years with $42 million guaranteed to keep Julius Peppers in 2010."

If I remember correctly, Peppers said early in the 2010 year that he would be leaving Carolina regardless of what they offered.

Anyone who knows anything at all about the Panthers knows that Peppers simply did not want to stay with the Panthers. They tried to pay him and make him the highest paid defensive player in the NFL, but he would not sign. It was not the Panther's fault. They tried, but Peppers wanted to leave.
