Paul Posluszny appears headed for the Jaguars

We expected the Jaguars to be aggressive in free agency filling holes in their defense, and it looks like they are off to a fast start.

Jay Glazer of FOX writes via Twitter that Paul Posluszny will sign with the Jaguars.

He revealed the information while casually answers a reader’s question on “Poz,” so we’re not exactly sure if Glazer is “reporting” this as fact or if he just expects it to happen.  Knowing how careful Glazer is with information, we suspect it is the former.

Losing Posluszny would be a big blow to the Bills defense, who already struggles against the run.  The move could also signal that Kirk Morrison won’t return to the Jaguars.

UPDATE: Florio has confirmed it’s a done deal.  Multiple reports indicate it will be a six-year contract.

  1. Good fit. They must have one of the top notch medical staffs for their defensive M*A*S*H* unit by now. Posluszny is just crossing his consistently broken “t’s”.

  2. Kirk! Come back to the Raiders at your natural OLB position where you rocked as a rookie! You, Wimbley and McClain and with that DL. Maybe the hit of loosing Asomugha (if we do) wont be that big..

  3. With Barrett Ruud and Kirk Morrison available, not to forget Stewart Bradley and Nick Barnett, I’m sure they won’t be banging their heads against the wall in trying to replace him.

  4. Poz, the smarter move would be to go back home and suit up for the Eagles. They are very thin at LB, but why in the world would you want to play for a contender…

  5. Or Kirk will re-sign and now we have a solid LB core! Yes!

Move Durant to the Left for run support. Poz to the right for putting the fear of God in opposing QBs and let Morrison crush the middle. I like it.

Now if we can get someone to cover over the top…..

  6. Gregg – you obviously did not watch much Bill’s football last year (I actually cannot blame you!). Poz is a fan favorite in Buffalo but is not even an average linebacker. He was consistently terrible in pass coverage and got owned (sometimes run over) against the run. The only ones sad to see him go are the Jets, Patriots and the Dolphins!

  7. Haha Paul Posluszny “putting the fear of God in QBs” with his sub 4.71 40 and no hint of pass rushing moves and Kirk Morrison “crushing the middle” one tackle 8 yards down the field at a time.

Do some of you even watch football?

HAHAHA….lmao!! Did you guys sign Terrell Suggs?? Poz couldnt put the fear of god in my 3 yr old! Just remember two words for him: 1. Injured 2. Reserve

Don’t let the door break your arm on the way out Paula poz

  9. It’s easy to shine on a horrible defense. Poz is a little overrated. It’s like winning a dunk contest at a school for midgets. None the less it’s clear that the Bills aren’t even faking trying to build a winner anymore.

  10. Def a fan favorite. As a Bills fan, I really liked Poz. But to be honest, he wasn’t all that great. I will miss him nonetheless

  11. Love the fact we got a high-energy, kamakazi LB…hate the fact that he seemed to miss more games than he really played well in. Durant needs help & maybe Jack sees a lil’ Del Rio in Poz…too bad they can’t hit in practice anymore or he’d find out.

Not to mention if McClain gets hurt, we have someone to fill in at middle linebacker who isn’t named Rickey Brown.

  14. man it makes me a little sad that poz is going to leave the bills as he was one of the few solid things they had going for them on the defensive end. if this means the vikes can snag morrison to replace leber i would be pretty happy though.

  15. We will see i dnt think this is a done deal. Buffalo WOULD be able to replace him but the bills have expressed they would love to keep him and poz has said he wants to stay. Probably trying to get leverage on buffalo

  16. For those of you bashing the bills for letting him walk, lets see the finacials first. If he’s paid 5 mil, or more, per season, hes overpaid. I see either barnett or bradley coming to the b-lo. I don’t really care about speed in the middle of our D. We need a solid thumper in there to fill gaps for moats and merriman/kelsay. I think nix and gailey have something up their sleeve, and it may leave the football world a bit suprised.

  17. It looks like they are giving him $15 mil guaranteed which isnt too bad considering recent signings. Poz will help solidify the linebacker corps but they really badly need help in the secondary. They need to sign at least one starter. Also for everybody talking about Durant coming back to the Jags this year, you can forget it. Durant was told by the front office that his services will no longer be needed and they will not try to sign him. He is an unrestricted free agent and supposedly has interest from teams like Detroit and Chicago.

  18. Oh yeah, sorry Bills fans but I think Poz can thrive behind our young talented DTs and really make a name for himself across the league.

Might have overpaid a little bit but we dont know the details of how the contract is stacked across the six year period until later. $15 mil guaranteed isnt bad. Our GM is not the type to throw ridiculous money around unless warranted. Hopefully his play will warrant this contract.

Also wanted to point out that it looks like the Bills matched the Jags contract offer, but Poz chose to make the move to Jax anyway.

  19. @momentumtech

He played behind one of the best DT in the game the last 2 years… And where did you get the Bills matched the offer? Poz is a “Rah, Rah” guy, but doesn’t back it up on the field. He is poor at the point of attack, sub-par in pass coverage, and is, at best, an average pass-rusher. 7 mil avg for mediocrity is over paying my friend, no matter what way you slice it. Also, please tell us how you feel when every week he is either nursing an injury, or gets gets bull-dozed in the open field. If you look at the source of the Bills poor run D, you will see that it is the LB, not the D-line.

If you were an alien and just landed on this planet, and this comment was the first thing you read about football, you would think the Buffalo Bills were the most well run and successful franchise in the league.

However, if you read this comment after actually studying the organization and the resumes of the guys running it, you would realize that “rabidbillsfan” is insane.

  21. Way to go Jags and by the way, they are keeping Morrison too. He will be moving to his real LB position outside. This teams coming together Pepp!!! Now we just need a top tier DB!

  22. @rabidbillsfan,

I agree that is a lot of cheddar but we dont know how the contract is weighted. Ill bet a lot of the cash is for the last couple of years and by then who knows. I was just reading about Nate Clements and his $80 million contract from about 4 years ago. If he gets released this year he will only actually have gotten paid about $24 million out of it.

With this recent GM, they havent been in the habit of overpaying players, so I will wait and see and hope he can be help solidify the D.

  23. Why is this not published on either teams website yet? If this was a done deal it would at least be made public on jacksonvilles website….right?

  24. I, personally, am not sad to see him go. I have never understood why Bills fans like this guy. He is not good we, as a defense are just that bad…I’m kinda hoping that Donte Whitner will follow him out also, however I’m not sure who would be left to make any tackles at all should that happen, haha.
