Why is it so hard to believe that a team would be interested in McNabb (34 yrs old, 14 TD, 15 INT, 3377 yds, 77.1 rating) when multiple teams have shown interest in Hasselbeck (35 yrs old, 12 TD, 17 INT, 73.2 rating).

It doesn't matter. The Vikings are going to be terrible this year. Their goal should be to have a better 2nd half of the year than the first 8 games. I honestly don't see them winning one division game.

That's fine for you Viking fans. They should get rid of some of the dead weight and bad contracts....get another high draft pick.....and work on 2012-2013. The Packers did the same thing back in the mid-2000s. Thompson came on in 2005 and got rid of their two high priced guards....Wahle and Rivera. They drafted a young QB in the first round (I think you know his name). They were conservative in FA....added a guy by the name of Woodson in 2006. They relied on the draft and took about four years building a young roster with tons of depth. You know the rest of the story.

The Queens need to blow this thing up. Trade AP for draft picks, don't be stupid in FA, and groom Ponder into what hopefully will be a quality NFL starter. That is how you win in this league. Not by signing Donovan McNabb and praying for 9 wins (which would never, ever happen).

I'm not a McNabb fan by any stretch of the imagination, but the guy played for part of one season for a team that has had seven winning seasons in the last twenty years, of which only two seasons were more than nine wins.

And since winning the Super Bowl behind Elway and Davis in 1998, Shanahan has won exactly one playoff game, or as many as Wade Phillips in the same time frame.

McNabb went 11-5 with the Eagles before being traded.

Finally, something that doesn't get enough attention: the Redskins were ranked 10th in yards allowed before Shanahan got there, and last season they were ranked 31st. Unless McNabb also plays defense, he wasn't going to turn that Redskins team around.

My point is this: I don't think that McNabb's drop-off was as steep as it appeared. I think if he goes to the Vikes, it'll be a good fit for him since he never was the proto-typical West Coast QB that Reid wanted him to be. McNabb can still throw the ball deep and with accuracy (especially on the run).

The trade makes no since. I mean if the Vikings drafted a guy 12th overall they intend for him to play sooner than later. Mc Nabb isn't going to want to be a bridge for a season, maybe two. If this was their plan all along they should/would've drafted a QB in the 2nd or 3rd round, knowing they had plans of trading for Mc Nabb, with the plan of letting him develope behind a Mc Nabb, who is on the back end of his career. The 12th overall pick needs to be on the field and producing. Not in waiting for 2-3 years.

On the subject, you’re right- McNabb is entering the backup phase of his career. He was never really that good anyway. He was simply surrounded by a good team. Case in point? Jake Delhomme, and Marc Bulger…. boom.

Yes…a God tier receiving corps with Freddy “FredEx” Mitchell and Todd “Gator Arms” Pinkston. If you’re going to try and sound smart, don’t try to make stuff up.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

yes, we all know McNabb wasnt given great targets but no team is perfect.

McNabb benefited from two bookend all pro caliber OTs in Jon Runyan and Tra Thomas the majority of his career. Jermaine Mayberry was a former first rounder and a very good guard. Shawn Andrews was a first rounder and for a short couple season span an elite OG. Jamal Jackson was a very good center, throw in Doug Bryzenski, John Welbourn, Jason Peters, Todd Herremans all coached by a top level o-line coach in Juan Castillo and McNabb enjoyed more consistency and high level of play from his 0-line than most QBs do.

He didnt have a true no.1 WR until TO came along but he certainly always had great receivers out of the backfield starting with Staley and Buck and then the All Pro Westbrook. Chad Lewis was a steady reliable TE and McNabb also had a head coach highly invested in him as QB and always had his back.

Then we turn over to the defense, led by one of the greatest defensive coordinators ever in Jim Johnson McNabb benefited from a consistenty top 10 and routinely top 5 defense that could bail him out if he made mistakes or easily keep the Eagles in games when the offense wasnt playing well.

Brian Dawkins, Troy Vincent, Bobby Taylor, Al Harris, Sheldon Brown, Lito Sheppard, Quintin Mikell, Asante Samuel, Rod Hood, Trent Cole, Hugh Douglas, Corey Simon, Jeremiah Trotter, Takeo Spikes, Darwin Walker, Carlos Emmons, Mike Patterson, Brodrick Bunkley, Mike Zordich, Jevon Kearse, Derrick Burgess, Nate Wayne, Michael Lewis, Clinton Hart, Dhani Jones, ND Kalu, Stewart Bradley etc. etc.......just really talented units that always performed under JJ

so yea, for the vast majority of the time McNabb had sub-par WRs.....but he also had a great o-line, great defense, terrific coaches, and big play HBs around him

I can always count on seeing these guys flip out in free agency every season. What good is McNabb without anyone worth throwing to? Rice is absolutely gone. I mean, desperate times call for desperate measures...they don't have a running back to fall back on or anything... ;)

Mcnabb is not and never was good. Someone posted earlier that Reid hid his faults in their offense ..... and thats absolutely correct. The same way the Eagles hid all of their players faults in their defensive/offense systems. Very few Eagles who leave the team ever catch on anywhere else. Derrick Burgess in Oakland is one success story, but I cant think of many more. Attention all NFL teams: stop sending the Eagles high round draft picks (AJ Feeley) for system-only players. We are all lucky the Eagles cant draft worth sh!t or they might actually be good

Yes…a God tier receiving corps with Freddy “FredEx” Mitchell and Todd “Gator Arms” Pinkston. If you’re going to try and sound smart, don’t try to make stuff up.
-------------
Make stuff up? Please!

I was thinking Coach Reid and his 75/25 pass:run game plans... then add T.O. in his prime and receiving RB in Brian Westbrook with Tra Thomas and Jon Runyan on the OL.

The defense had Jevon Kearse, Dawkins, Corey Simon, Trotter, etc.

None the less, it was the collective efforts of the TEAM that made them exceptional. In fact, I remember when McNabb was out, it was that TEAM that made Jeff Garcia and A.J Feely look like prime starters! By the way, where are they now?

McNabb sucks. The Vikes are over the cap and we’re going to spend $10 mill on a washed up QB and let WR Sid Rice go? That’ll make me root for the Packers.

Good. Leave. We don't want bandwagon fan like you.

Who cares how he reacts? If he performs, he’ll play. If not, he’ll sit. If he’s a problem, cut him. So we lose a 6th-round pick.

You're right. It's not like Minnesota knows how to draft and develop anyway. Hell, one year they didnt even participate in the first round with their own pick when that clock struck zero!!

No way should the Vikings execute this trade. McNabb is washed up, and he's not willing to put the time in, which is why he's on his way out of Washington.

Kyle Orton makes sense for the Vikings. He's younger and a better player right now. McNabb? He's another veteran on the downside. Sounds like a rerun, which is the last thing this team needs. McNabb's best years are behind him. Forget him and move on.
