Report: Steelers still aren’t interested in Tiki

Last month, agent Mark Lepselter used the same sentence three times when talking to WFAN’s Mike Francesa regarding the potential destination of running back Tiki Barber.

We feel we know where we’re going,” Lepselter said.

Lepselter also said that two teams have shown significant interest, and that one has emerged as the favorite.

Since then, Tiki has identified two teams on his short list, prompting many to assume that the two teams he identified are the two that have shown significant interest.

The only problem?  The two teams are, by all accounts, not interested.

The Bucs reportedly aren’t interested.  And now Ed Bouchette of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reiterates his report from earlier in the year that the Steelers aren’t interested.

Even if the Steelers were at some point in the offseason potentially interested, controversial comments from Rashard Mendenhall and James Harrison likely have made the Rooneys even more leery about a guy who has a chronic verbal case of Montezuma’s Revenge.

  1. “…a guy who has a chronic verbal case of Montezuma’s Revenge.”

    Gross. Yet accurate.

  2. Don’t rule out Denver and the guy that “outcoached” Tiki’s coach Tom Coughlin … John Fox.

I might be wrong though because Mike Freeman heard this too and we all know about how wrong he can be these days.

  3. What if Tiki throws in two complimentary Shamwows, an ash tray and one of those pompous hats he wore while on NBC to sweeten the deal?

  4. 4 years since he played, he will suck. I hope no one wants him and his passion for football lands him in the UFL or the Arena league. This scum bag only wants to play because he needs money. Get a real job and have to work for a living you jerk. BTW, for the Steeler fan who said six rings…hope you enjoyed that loss in February to the Packers…Steelers SUCK IT

  5. “Montezuma’s Revenge”

Why did you bring that up? Just thinking about it has my stomach in knots all over again…

I don’t see anyone wanting Tiki…unless, as you suggest, they are forced to due to a mid-season injury.

Maybe they should start a ‘senior’ NFL league…like golfers have the senior tour. Farve can live out his dream of becoming incapacitated on a football field…

  6. Agents are lying leeches. Mark Lepselter’s hoping to drum up interest with his lie about two teams being interested. When asked to name the teams he said “Uhhhh …. well there’s uhhhh”.

  7. Tiki, we don’t want you ! Quit trying to create mock interest where there is none. James Harrison was at Big Ben’s wedding on Saturday.

  8. Maybe we should forget about Tiki articles, until we find a team that IS interested in Tiki, lol…

Otherwise we have 30 more “(Insert Team) isnt interested in Tiki” stories coming in the next month

  9. I think Tiki is going to surprise alot of people if put in the right situation. He has never had a major injury and fixed his fumbling issues. I am not saying he is going to lead the league in rushing, but I think he can still contribute on third downs, and give a starter a breather from time to time. With that being said, he probably will not even get an opportunity.

  10. Tiki and Plaxico both have the same fundamental problem. They both have had good (but not stellar) NFL careers thus far and both feel they have a lot left to give and can still play at a high level. However, from the teams’ point of view, they are both getting old, have been out of the game for a couple of years and have significant character concerns. There is no guarantee that either of them will still have the ability and/or motivation to perform at the level they did before they left the game.

So this leaves a bit of a mismatch of expectations. Plax and Tiki both feel they should generate a lot of interest and have the luxury of picking the team they want to play for. But the reality is that the teams thay they want to play for may very well not want them. In fact, it is struggling teams that are more likely to want to take a flier. They may also have to face a reality check with regard to salary – they will feel entitled to a lot more than teams will be willing to give.

I think the compromise will be that they will both get short incentive-laden deals with little guaranteed money from ‘trendy’ but needy franchises like the Cowboys or Vikings

Yes, let’s hear more about the John Daly of the
    NFL.

  12. In other breaking news, JFK SINKS THE TITANIC WITH THE HINDENBURG ON THE MOON!!!

  13. What team wants this guy in their locker room for even a few weeks?

The day he gets cut, it’s almost assumed he would go out and write an article or do a “Super Exclusive” interview about any skeleton in the closet that will make him a buck. The guy talked trash about his former team… THE YEAR THEY WON THE SUPER BOWL!!

With that said, I hope the Cowboys sign him to be the lead back for $10+MM/year

  14. IF PITTS OLINE DOSENT DO A BETTER JOB..IT WONT MATTER WHO THEY PICK UP..WE DO NEED ANOTHER RB SPECIALLY ON 3RD DOWN AND GOAL LINE SITUATIONS.. HMMMM BRANDON JACOBS WUD FIT NICE..
