Seahawks battling Vikings for Sidney Rice

Brett Favre, Sidney Rice AP

New Seahawks offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell is trying to recapture the magic of Chilly Ball in Seattle.

On the same day the team brought in Tarvaris Jackson at quarterback, Seattle is pushing to bring in another former Viking for Jackson to throw to.

ESPN and NFL Network report that the Vikings and Seahawks are both bidding on Sidney Rice.  PFT’s Mike Florio has confirmed the reports. We wonder if a team other than the Vikings would agree to a deal with Rice sight unseen because of injury history.

(This really goes for all free agents with any injury questions.  They can’t take physicals until Friday.)

Sidney…after Steve Largent, name one Seahawks WR that anyone outside Seattle has ever heard of again. Deion Branch? Housh? LOL.

If you go Seahawks, you’re playing for money. If you go Vikings, you’re playing football.

Are they gonna go after Jared Allen next?

  3. baous says: Jul 26, 2011 11:18 PM

Is P. Carroll trying to turn them into the Minnesota Seahawks?..Rice would be a good addition, I just hope he doesn’t leave my Vikes!

  4. johnjosephyossarian says: Jul 26, 2011 11:18 PM

They must not be too happy with Golden Tate’s progress.

  5. brasho says: Jul 26, 2011 11:19 PM

Yes, they can’t take physicals until Friday… they also can’t OFFICIALLY sign free agents until 6pm Friday. Coincidence? I think not!

  6. iamthorny says: Jul 26, 2011 11:23 PM

If Sid goes to Seattle, Percy is going to be “puffing the magic dragon” for reasons beyond his migraines…

  7. vikesfansteve says: Jul 26, 2011 11:24 PM

Now the Vikings have McNabb, Rice will probably stay if the $ being offered are the same.

  8. fwbrodie says: Jul 26, 2011 11:25 PM

This is for Hutchinson. Take everything Seahawks. Take Jackson, take Rice, and take Ray Edwards.

    Seriously though, get Rice.

  9. socalboy08 says: Jul 26, 2011 11:27 PM

ha ha what a joke..hope the seahawks waist the money on this guy just like they did for there qb…I hope we sign hassleback to be a mentor and shove it in ur face when we take the division..Go Niners Baby……..

Once these players are contaminated in Minnesota their value goes down.

Rice was a one year wonder when a real QB named Brett Favre was throwing to him.

He would have signed anywhere but with the vikings except that Tarvaris Jackson is in Seattle.
    Now Rice is reconsidering.

If he stays with the vikings he can be in LA soon.

  12. buzzz84 says: Jul 26, 2011 11:32 PM

Get em Hawks…we could really use a #1 wr!!!

  13. vikesorgtfo says: Jul 26, 2011 11:39 PM

I always assumed the reason Sidney was planning in testing free agency was because he was not happy with the Vikings QB situation, which is understandable for a WR. However, if he leaves McNabb/Ponder for the Whitehurst/T-Jack/Lienert contest I will be shocked.

  14. sportsrube90 says: Jul 26, 2011 11:40 PM

Oh gosh Rice be smart man! You just got done having Tavaris Jackson as a teammate. Do you really want him throwing balls to you(or I mean the other team) again?

  15. pacificnw7722 says: Jul 26, 2011 11:41 PM

Sidney Rice and “BIG” Mike Williams would be one hell of a WR combo to try and shut down.

Golden Tate is tailor made for the slot.

Would make sense for Seahawks to nab him. Hope it works out.

I’m not even a Seahawks fan. Obviously you don’t pay attention to much that goes on outside of the NFC North.

    Darrell Jackson
Koren Robinson (I’m sure even you’ve heard of that guy)
    Joey Galloway

I really try to stay away from “AOL-speak”, but you get a big “LOL” for that last statement. As if the Vikings can look down their nose at anybody in this league.

  20. hawkman84 says: Jul 26, 2011 11:57 PM

Another bad idea! Spending all of this money on the wrong guys!!! With all this $$$ we’re willing to pay these guys us, we could have locked up Hasselbeck, ensuring us that we would a proven winner AT THE MOST IMPORTANT POSITION IN ALL OF FOOTBALL !!!

    Again, Tarvaris Jackson???

    UNBELIEVABLE!!!

Sidney, you know what your getting with Tavaris Jackson, Matt Leinart, and Charlie Whitehurst.

At least you know Donovan McNabb is better than those 3 clowns.

    Stay a Viking

  24. iamthorny says: Jul 27, 2011 12:07 AM

    Yeah, @canetic… for $$$= Seattle???

Which team made the playoffs last year? Vikes or ‘Hawks?

Oh, and which team actually was able to beat New Orleans when they got there?

  25. thephantomstranger says: Jul 27, 2011 12:14 AM

I can’t believe Rice is going to go to Seattle to play with that group of QBs. My guess is the market for him is softer than he thought because of his hip, so he’s using Seattle to try to drive up his price for the Vikings. What happened to all the teams that we heard were going to be bidding for his services?

what was Seattle’s record last year again? Oh yeah-they WON their division with a 7-9 record-LMFAO!!!! Only ONE game ahead of Vikings who finished last in the division for the first time in 21 years!!!

  28. jeff061 says: Jul 27, 2011 12:57 AM

  29. jeff061 says: Jul 27, 2011 1:01 AM

Donavan McNabb? Really?, Who wants to spend a season getting underthrown…plus constantly tutoring your QB on rules

I’d be on the first plane out of town!

Hey Nelson jr., do you post anything on a Vikings thread , where you don’t mention L.A. This leads me to believe that you are suffering from OCD or ( Obsessive-compulsive disorder ). OCD is a disorder in which people have unwanted and repeated thoughts, feelings, ideas and sensations. You might want to get checked !

  31. blackfootkiller says: Jul 27, 2011 1:13 AM

Rice probably thought that since the Vikings have won so many Lombardi trophies in the last 50 years, he would go to another team so that maybe someone else might win one.

  32. i5197 says: Jul 27, 2011 1:14 AM

In minnesota he he would be playing with a decent vetran and a prospect instead of the guy who couldent manage to work with him in minny and a qb who couldent even manage with larry fitzgerald

  33. emeraldcitymiracle says: Jul 27, 2011 1:28 AM

Seattle and Minnesota are on opposite roads.

One team makes the most of the talent they have, won their division against odds, and are making strides towards the future; the other is squandering their talent and finishing last in their division.

    Make the right call Sidney.

  34. ticewasbetter says: Jul 27, 2011 1:42 AM

Would Rice rather catch passes from McNabb, Ponder, Webb or T-jack, Whitehurt or unknown QB out in Seattle..????

Also consider… Harvin, Shaincoe, Rudolph lined up next to him and drawing coverage away along with Peterson, Gerhardt running the ball well… Compared to what in Seattle… that tight end from eden prairie, Lynch and o-line almost worse than Minnesota’s. Hmmm.

Remember history repeats itself, Houshmanzadeh chose money over the Vikings for Seattle too and look how that turned out in ’09.

  35. eegwaybeegway says: Jul 27, 2011 1:53 AM

Many assume that Sidney wouldn’t want to play with Tarvaris, but that couldn’t be farther from the truth. Tarvaris has, in fact, thrown as many regular-season TDs to Sidney than Favre did. The two are great friends off the field, often hanging out in social settings or on the golf course. It wouldn’t be a surprise at all if Sidney followed Tarvaris to Seattle and gave the Seahawks a dynamic passing attack. Bevell helped orchestrate an offense in Minnesota that was one ill-advised Favre pass from gettting to the Super Bowl. If I were a Seahawk fan, I’d be excited about what’s coming down the pike.

As if it wasn’t already blatantly obvious that you’re a Whiners fan based on your username, your horrific spelling and grammar, and the fact that you start every post with “haha”…you add “Go Niners!” at the end to hush any non-believers.

You guys just re-signed Alex Smith AGAIN for $5 million in just one year and you have the gall to pick on the Seahawks for getting Tarvaris Jackson? Figures.

I knew it wouldn’t take long for you assclowns to start proclaiming yourselves the division winner again. Same time, same place, every year…Niners sign a free agent-Niners fans: “SUPERBOWL GUYS, SUPA BOWL!”

The funny thing is, your team never backs up the talk of you wanna-be gangstas. You guys haven’t made the playoffs for 500 years and all you do is clutch on to those 20 year old SB rings for dear life and think those “It gets better” videos on Youtube apply to your fanbase.

I’m so sick of you smack-talking cholos.

    ====================

You are aware Sidney Rice is the main reason the Vikings had such a bad season last year right?

He basically F@%#ed the team over by waiting to have surgery til right before the season leaving us with no passing game. Hell we traded in desperation for Camarillo and then Moss because we had no passing game like the year before with Rice.

And since when does one bad season mean we’re heading down the wrong road? We went to the NFC Championship game the year before and we’re winning a lot tougher division then the NFC West. So you beat the Saints who couldn’t tackle and didn’t have a turnover defense last year (the reasons they won the super bowl unless you count the refs help in OT) the Vikings will be back to contending in a few years. We got more talented players on offense and defense and even have a better QB situation right now than Seattle. You seriously wanted Tarvaris? If Sidney takes the money like Douchemandzadeh did and chooses Seattle over Minnesota than good riddance. Nobody likes a sellout.

  43. indianheadmeatpackingcompany says: Jul 27, 2011 7:45 AM

I LOST all respect for the Rice after the games he played last seaons. He waited until preseason to have his hip surgery and then when he was cleared to play in the second half of the seaon he cried about still being hurt but magically was fixed when he was given the choice to play or go on IR. Yeah, true, MN had nothing to play for last season, but that can show you more about a player than going 19-0. He showed that when times get tough he will not be there, he cares only about himself and that you cant trust the guy. Id let him go.

  44. theytukrjobs says: Jul 27, 2011 8:09 AM

I love Rice and think he’s an amazingly talented WR. With that said I wouldn’t be heartbroken if he left because he is so dang injury prone. Even before the big hip injury that he decided not to fix in the offseason, thus removing himself from the Vikings for the regular season, he was still injury prone.

So am I to understand that you are proud the Hawks made the playoffs last year? The first sub 500 team in playoff history? Yeah I give credit for beating the Saints. Greast job. I t goes to show any team can win on any given Sunday. However, just remember they had the EASIEST schedule in NFL history whereas the Vikes had one of the most difficult last year. So don’t come off as if the Hawks are better than the Vikings. Give me a break!

The Seahawks have been to the playoffs 6 of the past 7 seasons and play in the greatest, loudest stadium in the NFL.

The Vikings are coming off a 6-10 season, play in a deflated baloon, and must compete with the best team in football to make the playoffs.

    Game, set, match.

Welcome to Seattle Syd. Hope you like playoff football.
