Getty ImagesThe Redskins desperately want to get something of value for quarterback Donovan McNabb. The Vikings desperately need a veteran quarterback. From that mutual desperation could arise a transaction between the two teams.
Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that the Vikings are “one of a few teams” that have talked with the Redskins about McNabb.
Any trade would require McNabb to restructure a contract that is scheduled to pay him $12.5 million in 2011.
McNabb previously had been linked to the Vikings, when his former offensive coordinator in Philly, Brad Childress, was the head coach in Minnesota.
And now comes the part where we express skepticism. With Schefter and Redskins coach Mike Shanahan having written a book together, it wouldn’t be all that unreasonable to wonder whether Shanahan leaked this one to Schefter in the hopes of scaring up a trade market when one otherwise doesn’t exist.

Ponder should like this. Week 10 and it’s all his.
Forget a pick, Redskins should try to get Rhett Bomar.
Take that Mitchell!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It’s a terrible move for the Vikings, but I won’t be shocked to see it happen. Especially after they went out on a limb for Favre and Moss.
Vikings: NO! Don’t do it! If you want him, just wait till he is cut (which he will be).
Noo, not Shifty Schefter.
As an Eagles fan, I like McNabb and I would like to cheer for him on a team other than the Redskins, so I’m all for it. I honestly think he got a bad rap for one year with the Redskins and he could do a much better job with Adrian Peterson at running back and Percy Harvin on the outside.
donny!
never going to win the big game because your african american
MN could do a lot worse. If it works out, I’ll look forward to the Cutler/McNabb friendship/rivalry growing.
I don’t get it. The Redskins are trying to sign top FA WRs, so who will throw the ball to them? It’s wasting money. They need to sign players who will help them win right now, not peripheral positions that won’t help a bad QB. They need to keep McNabb, he’s one of the best players on the team.
FAIL
Hello, Vikings front office, this is Rick Spielmann speaking.
Who? Washington? Oh hey, hows it going?
Are we interested in trading for McNabb? Maybe… what were you thinking in terms of a deal?
You want WHAT for him??? Click………………………
Redskins: “Ok, what will you give us”
Vikings: “Oh, you want something for him? I thought it was first-come, first-serve?”
Redskins: “No, that’s for Albert”
Vikings: “OK, how about a kicking tee, some Star Caps and 1,500 Vikings Jersey’s”
Redskins: “It’s a deal, as long as the jersey’s don’t have #4 on them”
Vikings: [click]
Of course. I knew all along he would end up in Minnesota. The only question is: where will Vince Young end up? Cinci?
bwa-hahahahahahahahahahahaha!!!!
Prediction: Vikings in the NFC North cellar 2 straight years.
How is it you are the first to sniff out any potential far-fetched conflict of interest any reporter may have, but you have no problem hocking anything and anything NBC/GE/Comcast-related without batting an eye?
I wouldn’t trade a chartered boat tour of Lake Minnetonka for him.
Tarvaris never got a chance in Minnesota? – COME ON MAN?????????????
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!
Big McNabb fan, but if he ends up in minnesota they have to let him make the calls. we all saw the pleasant destruction of the redskins
Another in a long line of retreads for the Vikes…..
I salivated at this prospect 3 years ago but now I’m very “meh” about it. Still, a veteran QB to start and groom Ponder isn’t bad, and we could do a LOT worse than McNabb.
What is he really worth at this point? Who knows if he’s willing to restructure?
If I’m the Vikes I just wait until he’s cut. No way I trade for his 12.5 million salary.
If Schefter is reporting “stories” to help that A-hole Shanahan, he should lose his right to report NFL news!
When can trades begin? I know they are discussing deals, but when can they execute?
For Vikings:
McNabb – NO
Kolb – NO
Hasselbeck – NO
Favre – NO
Orton – YES
Packer fans support this trade.
Please NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! WE dont want microwavabubba bows in Minny !! With this O-Line he will get eaten alive. He’s old and does not have the speed to run out of the pocket. He will get hammered just like Farve.
it wouldn’t be all that unreasonable to wonder whether Shanahan leaked this one to Schefter in the hopes of scaring up a trade market when one otherwise doesn’t exist.
___
Mike Brown.. You could be doing something like this right now too..
rumors was a good record in the 70′s. that is all.
Wonder what the Vikes would be willing to give up for McNabb, considering they have Ponder waiting in the wings?
Why pay? When your a cut away from saving 12.5 mil.? Crazy!
Nice! Trade away more of your future for an out-of-shape has been! I used to say vikes are 3-5 years away from relevance. Now, it is more like 5-7! Skoal vikes!
LOL, gotta love the Bi-Queens. First, it was “Ted Revenge Epic Fail”. What’s this one gonna be called – “Shanahan Revenge Epic Fail”?
Meanwhile, the Packers have Aaron Rodgers.
Please no.
Signed,
Fans of any franchise that may be included in those few teams.
Ps. If we wanna watch ground balls we’ll just watch baseball.
leaked this one to Schefter in the hopes of scaring up a trade market when one otherwise doesn’t exist.
It still does not exist !…12.5 million dollars is too much financial baggage, for any team to carry ! Donavan…layed and egg last year and his play is risky, at best !!
McNabb always acts like everything is a joke. He seems as though he can’t take anything seriously anymore. He acts like he doesn’t care…he just doesn’t have that killer instinct anymore. Maybe T.O. was bringing it out of him back in the day, idk? Now he just sits with his arms crossed, laughing, and acting as though he’s already accomplished his goals. Honestly, I don’t see him getting a team anywhere. After being crushed three times in a row by Dallas in Philly… then Rex Grossman passes you on the depth chart…. three words…
YA DONE SON!
I legit felt terrible when he got traded to the Redskins (loved the deal we got), he’ll do MUCH BETTER in Minnesota with a solid run game, and receivers..maybe. Oh and coaches and ownership who aren’t complete r-tards.

Who cares about a rivalry between what would be the 3rd and 4th best Qbs in the NFC North?
As a Lions fan, please, please, please make the trade….LOL
Why would Schefter make this up? Everyone knew McNabb has been available for months. Now that it’s come out that the Vikings are interested, suddenly teams will come out of the wood work with interest, when if that wasn’t the case they would have just ignored McNabb? Talk about a stretch.
I feel so sorry for the Viking fans, another old recycled has-been under center. Your GM is a joke.
I hope this is true not only because I’m a Redskins fan, but also out of spite for Jason LaCanfora.
That little sawed off 300 lb midget has been spouting off about how nobody will give WASH any pick for McNabb or Fat Albert for months.
So more than the compensation and removal of the circus both players provide, I just hope JLC is proven wrong…This should not be a stretch since he averages about 4% accuracy in his reporting.
BTW…can anyone explain how this short, fat, round dolt has become a go to guy for talking about Free Agents in a pro sports league?
Hey LaCanfora, the PBA (Bowling) called, and said you are too out of shape to report to their camp.
Watching NFLN today has been a joke with him on it.
Only a matter of time before Manning joins the purple. it’s what the vikings do, people. then Brady, then…
…haha still laughing. on further thought, this is more likely a rumor started by McNabb’s people.
“Wonder what the Vikes would be willing to give up for McNabb, considering they have Ponder waiting in the wings?”
This is the Vikings we’re talking about, they’ll probably trade Ponder for McNabb.
As a lifelong Packers fan, I would be terrified if the Vikings landed McNabb.
He’s the key to their Superbowl run.

1500 jerseys for McNabb? that’s asking a lot!

Ummmm, McNabb has been doing that routine since before he could open a Campbells soup can.
When he was with the Eagles, every press conference was pretty much the same….. McNabb smiling and lavishing high praise on some teammates, then throwing the organization under the bus. That happened in good times and bad.
I’ve never seen someone take so much criticism and hand it right back while hardly anybody notices.
I mean, the whole “the kids gotta grow up” line is what stamped his ticket out of Philly in the first place.

OFS!!!
The only reason they’d trade rather than wait for McNabb to be released would be to give him time in camp to learn the system. Otherwise, Shanahan can hang onto him until the pre-season is over and both sides will be screwed.
McNabb is available for a garbage draft pick and the Seahawks sign Jackson

Greatest post ever…..
Hey Vikings fans….does Ziggy have the private jet and white Escalde fueled up? Who are they sending over to Washington to fetch McNabb….
Packers fans and Lions fans both support this trade.
Christian Ponder does not support this trade.
Tavaris Jackson would support this trade, if he got a vote.
Visanthe Shaincoe, Percy Harvin and whoever replaces Sidney Rice do not support this trade.
Bears do not support their fans, so Cutler won’t be traded.
Brett Favre’s rights might be part of this trade.
REPORT: Bengals interested in McNabb
to all viking fans:
like I told all the deadskins fans last year. Enjoy watching McRib throwing to the feet and over the head’s of your receiver’s! You would be better off with old grey beard for another season!

——————————————————-
Which QB besides Rodgers in the NFC North are you saying is better than Cutler? China doll?
The Viking slaves are genius with this move.
Minnesota Vikings—- Making the Packers look quite superior minute by minute.
Well, let’s see….
1. Washed up. Check.
2. Can’t get along with his current team’s management. Check.
3. Fails in big games. Check.
Yep, seems like a perfect Viking move to me.
McNabb is one of the few QB’s out there that would make the Vikings worse. I’d rather have Rhett Bomar on the roster than McNabb.
The Vikings should focus on resigning Sidney Rice and if the are determined to find a veteran QB, they should target guys like Kyle Orton or Drew Stanton… someone who won’t cost fortune and might have a few years left in the tank.
Unless the Vikes can talk them down to accepting a Gatorade bucket and 200 paper cups for him, it’s not gonna happen.
People saying the Vikings are idiots if they make this move are the same people who would say the Vikings are idiots if they didn’t acquire a veteran QB to mentor Ponder. As long as it’s a late-round draft pick and they renegotiate his contract to make it reasonable, what’s the harm? The only veteran QB I’d rather have is Bulger and he has his choice of lots of teams and may be more expensive.
I would trade McNabb to the Vikes if they also took Haynesworth too. No other compensation needed.
I wouldn’t be surprised if McNabb has a huge impact. People so badly want to bury this guy.
Notice how EVERYONE who to Washington sucks? He still has gas in the tank.
Shanahan is just cashing a paycheck and trying to groom his kid for a head coaching job.
Those are facts.

No offense, dude, but I have a hard time taking your QB opinion seriously if you put Kyle Orton and Drew Stanton in the same category.
The Bengals and the vikings are playing chicken.
The winner gets McNabb and the loser gets Vince Young.
It is fun watching these franchises square off in the ineptitude finals.
Can all of you naysayers please tell me what is so wrong about this?
The arguments I hear are “he’s washed up” and “he chokes”.
We aren’t trying to make a Super Bowl run here folks, and all this year is about is development. If McNabb performs poorly, I doubt anyone will really care that much.
