Giants add ex-49ers center David Baas

On Wednesday the Giants said goodbye to three veteran offensive linemen. Now they’ve said hello to a new one.

The Giants have agreed to terms with former 49ers center David Baas, according to Matt Barrows of the Sacramento Bee.

Baas has started all 16 games for the 49ers each of the last two seasons. He’ll take the place of Shaun O’Hara, who is on the way out after seven seasons as the Giants’ center.

Losing Baas will be a blow to the 49ers who were expected to make re-signing him a high priority.

It warms my heart to see the Giants playing musical chairs with their most consistent unit.

What the hell are the niners doing!? First Takeo, now Baas.

Apparently we were old and fragile on the O-Line…..not anymore baby!!!

Absolutely love what the Giants are doing.

I know 49er fans wanted this guy back bad.

    Bring back Seubert though.

Giants line looks like it will now be…

    LT Beatty
    LG Diehl
    C Baas
    RG Snee
    RT McKenzie

They should be fine as long as Beatty is finally ready to take over.

Typical Eagle fan, commenting on Giant threads. Go worry about your animal torturing, herpes spreading, pathological lying ex-con QB that chokes in the playoffs & has never lived up to his hype.

Forget the treble, we need more baas.

Love this move from the Giants standpoint, but gotta agree with hus10188. 9ers needed Baas back and they let him go. Takeo is old, but his leadership and experience is invaluable. They better be looking to make a run for Nnamdi or Jonathan Joesph and bring back either Franklin or Goldston or both, something to justify letting these Baas and Spikes go.

huge loss for 49ers, one of the more underrated players in the league. I’m happy for Baas though. Trent Baalke is a joke and he is destroying the 49er roster.

I know some members of the Baas family and they were all certain he would test the FA waters but go back to San Fran. That was his first choice but apparently they didn’t feel the same way so he bolted.

Good move by the giants, now go after linebacker

So are we finally even for them stealing bart oats?

He’s another Seubert, pretty much. Having guys as versatile as Boss, Diehl, Petrus, and Koets helps if/when injuries happen.

The biggest question now is will we address LT in free agency, or are we fine with Beatty as our starting LT? The interior of the line is set, as far as I’m concerned. Maybe Gaither is on the horizon.

@Dophy28 don’t forget about Adam Koets & Mitch Petrus. Petrus was drafted with a lot of upside & Koets, who can play any line position, did well during his time filling in last year. There will be some competition during camp.

Baas GETS OWNED all the time, great move by the 49ers letting him go. Time to add younger, better interior lineman.

He looks like a MMA fighter. If the 49ers wanted him so bad, he must be a good player. Congrats on a good pick up for big blue.

Just looked through the list of FA centers…there aren’t any decent ones left. WTF are the Niners doing???

I knew not to buy season tickets again this year. Niners – I will buy season tickets again when you actually commit to winning instead of paying lip service to it…

Not forgetting them at all. They provide some real depth along with Boothe. I think they will be the 3 dressed backups this year and will all get to play here and there. I don’t expect to see Brewer on the field much, but it would be nice to see him get his feet wet.

It’s going to hurt to lose Baas. Who the heck is going to play center?

  20. bahoto34 says: Jul 27, 2011 1:10 PM

    like a baas

  21. pnut87 says: Jul 27, 2011 2:10 PM

Still looking at one of those Falcons OLs still on the market. I would be more comfortable with the line is they signed one of them.

  22. elyasm says: Jul 27, 2011 4:59 PM

If david Baas is taking the place of Shaun O’Hara, does that mean he will need to marry Tom Coughlin’s daughter, too?

  23. thephantomstranger says: Jul 27, 2011 6:01 PM

From the looks of that picture, his name should be Badas$.

  24. giantjeff says: Jul 28, 2011 7:42 AM

Honestly, I know little to nothing about this guy? The thread responses seem positive… Is this guy a big talent? Is he a better run blocker or pass blocker? Is he te kind of leader thy OHara was? Does anyone know his Madden rating? Lol! No seriously…
