We had our doubts, but it doesn’t seem like Plaxico Burress‘ stay in jail has hurt his market value that much.
Chris Mortensen of ESPN reports Burress will dine with Giants coach Tom Coughlin on Friday evening. That delayed trip came after Burress arrived in New Jersey Tuesday night only to learn that he wasn’t allowed to meet with the Giants.
Burress traveled via a private jet courtesy of billionaire Seth Bernstein, someone who is “serving as an unofficial broker” between the receiver and the Giants. Bernstein is a buddy of Giants co-owner Steve Tisch.
Apparently a “fence-mending” dinner with Coughlin is the only thing standing in between a two-year, $10 million contract that would be heavy on incentives. (60% would be salary.)
Well, Mike Tomlin may also be in the way. Burress plans to leave dinner with Coughlin to go to Pittsburgh where he will break bread with Tomlin. The Steelers are reportedly interested in bringing Burress back to the organization, although we can’t imagine they would give him close to $10 million.
Either way, we think it speaks very well for Burress that the two organizations that know Burress best are willing to bring him back.
