Plaxico has dates set up with Tom Coughlin and Mike Tomlin

We had our doubts, but it doesn’t seem like Plaxico Burress‘ stay in jail has hurt his market value that much.

Chris Mortensen of ESPN reports Burress will dine with Giants coach Tom Coughlin on Friday evening.  That delayed trip came after Burress arrived in New Jersey Tuesday night only to learn that he wasn’t allowed to meet with the Giants.

Burress traveled via a private jet courtesy of billionaire Seth Bernstein, someone who is “serving as an unofficial broker” between the receiver and the Giants.  Bernstein is a buddy of Giants co-owner Steve Tisch.

Apparently a “fence-mending” dinner with Coughlin is the only thing standing in between a two-year, $10 million contract that would be heavy on incentives.  (60% would be salary.)

Well, Mike Tomlin may also be in the way. Burress plans to leave dinner with Coughlin to go to Pittsburgh where he will break bread with Tomlin.  The Steelers are reportedly interested in bringing Burress back to the organization, although we can’t imagine they would give him close to $10 million.

Either way, we think it speaks very well for Burress that the two organizations that know Burress best are willing to bring him back.

Good for him….. If the Eagles needed wr help, I’d be happy to have Burress.

He will certainly help either of those teams.

    Go get him, Tomlin.

All of the idiot Giant fans who said Plaxico would never play football for their team again, guess what……he’s BAAAAAACCKKKK!!!!

Just remind yourselves of his constant tardiness to meetings, me first attitude (brought over from Pittsburgh), and oh yeah that whole “gun shot to the leg” thing, and have at it.

Says a lot about the guy if both coaches want to discuss bringing him back. So, why aren’t other teams taking note of that and bringing him in? Especially all the assistants he must have worked with over the years (W’hunt in AZ, now?) that must know him, too? Strange.

Burress is a beast. Why is there a suprise that anyone would want him. Y’all act like he killed somebody. He only shot himself. After getting made fun of by all of his friends and doing more time than Stalworth, I think he’s paid the price. let him play!

I don’t see plax fitting into the jackson, maclin, vic, shady style of offense.. it would slow the game down and that’s not cool…

I don’t see how Pittsburgh would be a fit. Mike Wallace is an unstoppable burner, Hines Ward is still effective from the slot, and Emanuelle Sanders is a very good work in progress. But in New York, you have Steve Smith who is coming off major knee surgery, Hakeem Nicks who is kind of inury-prone.

I think Plax will come back humbled and that could make him an absolute monster in the red zone.

  9. steelbird73 says: Jul 27, 2011 5:02 PM

No Mikey T! We Don’t want him!!!!

Ok…this makes you think a bit. Buress could come back to his old roots. I guess i wouldnt mind. I never hated Buress. Good football player but obviouslly has the issues off field. The way I see it…Ben has always wanted a taller reciever. And we keep getting 5ft guys. Lima Sweed obviouslly…ther is just no hope. I think with the couple years he has left he could do some damage for us again. i wouldnt bet my money on him coming back only because we dont usually take back guys we give the boot to. On the other hand tho, it could play out well because he has ZERO room for error. He has to play the Mike Vick card now….family first…god this..blah blah blah. Which would be good…if he could stick to it. Whatever happens happens. id like to see Buress play again regardless. i dont care about guys off field issues. People are people and everyone has their own drama. I watch football for football. This isnt

I’d be surprised if he’s a Steeler again (especially for that price) but stranger stuff has happened.

  12. hines86for6 says: Jul 27, 2011 5:05 PM

Although a big red zone target at wideout is something the Steelers lack, I’d still much rather use the money to work a deal for Woodley, and extend Timmons and Troy.

The Steelers are not hurting at the WR position with Wallace, Ward, E Sanders, and Antonio “3rd and 19” Brown.

    No thanks

Didn’t he say he wanted a player’s coach and a QB? They have neither in New York.

  14. berniemadoffsides says: Jul 27, 2011 5:08 PM

As a Giants fan, this is just stunning. I’m assuming it’s only because the health of Steve Smith’s knee is so uncertain.

Plexiglass returns to Pittsburgh via the 757 connection with Tomlin.

  16. eaglesfan290 says: Jul 27, 2011 5:10 PM

I hope his agent told him to leave the GAT at home!

  17. oumoonunit says: Jul 27, 2011 5:12 PM

Speed is nice, but conditioning and technique can make make up for that. You can’t out 6’6″ someone.

  18. fhuizar says: Jul 27, 2011 5:20 PM

Wallace (deep threat) and Burris (possession wr) on the outside , Ward in the slot , or give Sanders the other side opposite of Wallace while Burris gets in game ready and knows the playbook.

  19. blackgolddomination says: Jul 27, 2011 5:20 PM

Steel city is good for receivers. I really cannot imagine the Giants taking him back. I know they need receivers, but I just don’t see it. There’s only one football and we already have some great young talented receivers. No way we’d want to sacrifice any of them for Plax after his lil’ run for the money stunt with the Steelers. Steeler philosophy is that you’ll make good money… but we’re here to win football games first.

  20. holeinone09 says: Jul 27, 2011 5:23 PM

I wouldn’t mind having Plax back, but it would only happen at the right price. Steelers seem to have a nice deep group of WRs but Plax could be a specialist since he is tall. Can’t have enough talented WRs. Injuries happen.

  21. steeltownpride says: Jul 27, 2011 5:25 PM

i wouldnt say that the Steelers dont bring back players . They brought Randle EL , Larry Foote , Leftwich and Mcfadden back last season . I say its more like they land Burress over Barber . Bring him back . The offense would be sick .

  22. citizenstrange says: Jul 27, 2011 5:25 PM

I think 99.999999% of players and fans wish Plaxico Burress only the best.

Count me in …. Good Luck Plax!

  23. jebdamone says: Jul 27, 2011 5:35 PM

anyone that remembers the 07-08 season with plax playing on a mangled ankle knows why teams aren’t hesitating to sign him. i would give him a 2 year 10 million incentive based contract in a heartbeat.

  24. steelerssmack4u says: Jul 27, 2011 5:50 PM

The Steelers will never pay big $$$ for a free agent including Plex. Unless they would cut Hindes to save $$$ and that will never happen. As stated in other posts the Steelers want to sign Timmons etc to long term contracts. Plex has been out of football a few years so it will be all “ABOUT THE $$$”. However, having said this, DISCO DUI has lost more than a few steps and this is will be his last year. Ben wants at least 1 tall reciever. WISHFUL THINKING!!!

if cash is close, gotta go with PIT–
players coach, better qb, more talent around u, better D…

  29. steelcurtainn says: Jul 27, 2011 6:39 PM

Come on Plax! Come on Home to a superbowl contender.

  30. westwoodwarrior8 says: Jul 27, 2011 8:46 PM

” plexi glass bend but dont break” my favorite plaxico line!

  31. Deb says: Jul 27, 2011 11:31 PM

Sure would be nice to get back a tall receiver of that caliber … assuming he still has the goods. But the price is too steep when we have more pressing needs at corner and o-line. Come on home, Plax … if you’re willing to come cheap.

  32. homerosity says: Jul 28, 2011 9:47 AM

Plax on the Giants again… I’m a fan. Maybe he can teach Hackeem to be a better WR

  33. aldashex86 says: Jul 28, 2011 10:04 AM

If the Steelers take Plax back, I would be so mad. I may do something reeeeally stupid….like shoot myself in the leg.
