T-Jack is getting a lot of scratch

Tarvaris Jackson, Barry Cofield AP

The Seahawks are making it clear that Tarvaris Jackson and Charlie Whitehurst are on equal footing.

ESPN.com reports Jackson will earn $8 million over the next two seasons from Seattle.  That’s a better deal than we expected, and it just so happens to be almost identical to Whitehurst’s contract.

You could argue Jackson actually has a leg up on Whitehurst because he’s played for Seahawks coordinator Darrell Bevell.  In fact, we just made that argument.  It was a lot of fun.

Whitehurst. T-Jack. NFL Fever. Catch it.

    (Whoever wins, the Seahawks lose.)

LOL really? At least now you can’t complain about opportunities T-Jack. Put up or STFU already.

Glad he’s no longer the Vikes’ prob. Good riddance.

  4. chipwade says: Jul 27, 2011 1:05 AM

:( Can’t they just pay one really good QB all of that money?

On equal footing? Nice, a battle to determine the best backup on the squad. I would rather see cbj get the position, he just looks right carrying the clipboard.

Years from now the Seahawks will laugh at this stupid move.

For the next few months they will be brokenhearted.

Jump Pass Jackson will be inept until he is injured.

Pete Carroll is going to be so frustrated.

  8. chipwade says: Jul 27, 2011 1:20 AM

I thought about it more. But not only could TJack not beat out Favre, but he couldn’t beat out Joe Webb(someone the Vikes thought would be a good WR).

  9. heavythumb says: Jul 27, 2011 1:20 AM

    Leg up, eh?

Good luck, t- jack, but i will not miss the patented jump-pass.

I’m a Vikings fan and T-Jack has always been my second favorite quarterback on our team at any given moment. He’s now my favorite qb on my second favorite team. Here’s to hoping him and Bevell can do a little more in Seattle than they managed in Minnesota.

  11. loytomaki says: Jul 27, 2011 1:27 AM

If Vikings fans treat Ponder like they did T-Jack then God help him if he doesn’t come out of the gate a Pro-Bowler.

I live in St. Paul and have been in the Twin Cities for about 14 years, and I realize that Philly fans get the credit for being the most rancorous and fair weather but they really do not have much on these ‘Minnesota Nice” fans.

T-Jack is a prime example of what Parcells used to talk about. Throw a guy to the wolves too early, get his confidence rattled, and you end up with a wasted 2nd rounder. He could have been good but coaches here listened to the fans clamoring for him and played him when he needed another year to be ready. 2 Games later he had not won a super bowl and all the locals were asking if he was the ‘worst draft bust of all time’.

what exactly were you thinking about chip? Joe Webb never beat out T-Jack, he played because T-Jack was on IR

  13. ticewasbetter says: Jul 27, 2011 1:39 AM

There ya go T-Jack! Chedda commin’

  14. emeraldcitymiracle says: Jul 27, 2011 1:42 AM

Yes years from now this will be known as the Seahawks’ darkest hour. Signing a former starter that’s played for their current OC to compete with Charlie Whitehurst using money they have more than enough of.

Those folks are pretty sick up north.

  15. eegwaybeegway says: Jul 27, 2011 1:45 AM

All Tarvaris asked for was an open QB competition. He never got it in Minnesota with Wilf’s insistence on Favre starting for exposure for his stadium proposal, but it looks like he’ll get it with the Seahawks. I believe he’ll turn the scowls of the Seahawks fans into broad smiles. The guy has done just about everything Minnesota asked for since 2008, he’s still a young man and he has a determination that has shown with all the hours he logged getting into prime shape during Larry Fitzgerald’s summer camp. Go get ‘em Tarvaris. You’ve deserved this shot.

I stand corrected and apologize. I still don’t think you should miss the rest of the season with turf toe. Especially when you are taking over for Brett Favre.

  19. bigguy54 says: Jul 27, 2011 5:10 AM

TJack was a gift for Matt H, our OL will be so bad for a few games Matt would have gotten killed. When they gel and become a good OL then T will be like he was in Minny, it looks like he will have Rice to throw to though. We paid TJ 4 mill and offered Matt 7 mill, the three Mill we saved can go to Rice. We still have a few holes and 1 is QB, we will fill that in the next draft. When our new QB gets his feet wet, the NFC West is ours again. Not a fan of TJ, but understand the thinking.

Andrew Luck or Matt Brakley. That’s what the Hawks are thinking.

I hope T-Jack lights the world on fire in Seattle, further exposing the complete and total ineptitude of the Purple Pansies.

Carroll is going to ruin this franchise and then bail on them back to college.

  24. jefferee101 says: Jul 27, 2011 7:19 AM

    @loytomaki

I love how fans blame other fans for the lack of development from a player. But then in the next breathe, they say things like,

“He could have been good but coaches here listened to the fans clamoring for him and played him when he needed another year to be ready.”

    Let me get this straight….

Fans shouldn’t voice their opinions because the coaches might listen to them?

How is it that you hold fans accountable, but not the coaches that are making those decisions?

Stick to politics, guy. Arrogance and stupidity are values with them.

Remember all the talk about the goofy contracts we’d be seeing due to the 99%-of-the-cap salary floor for the next two seasons?

    Yeah…

  26. shawon0meter says: Jul 27, 2011 8:05 AM

T-Jack’s work ethic is off the charts. I hope he puts together a few good years in Seattle.

  27. theytukrjobs says: Jul 27, 2011 8:06 AM

Vikings fans were all about T-Jack in the beginning but it never panned out. I personally think it was his inability to stay healthy more than his ability to play football that did him in here, not that he was all that good when healthy but it is hard to improve without being able to play a full season or two.

  28. qdog112 says: Jul 27, 2011 8:08 AM

Good for T-Jack. He wanted a real shot, now he’s got it. I expect him to do well with no Brett Favre over his shoulder. He needed a clean slate. Now the Vikes have to start over by trading for a vet QB because they wasted a first round pick on a candy armed loser. By all accounts Ponder is a nice kid, but an NFL QB, he is not.

And that right there says everything you need to know about Tavares Jackson.

Well, Pete Caroll is either a genius, or is going back to college ball in 2012. (2013 if the Seachickens are patient)

So you expect T-Jack to do well but Ponder is not an NFL QB. A guy you’ve watched fail for 5 years, you like. A first-round pick you’ve never seen play in the NFL, you’ve concluded can’t play. Okay, just wanted to make sure I got that straight.

I’m glad he’s gone T.Jack never proved himself in MN now the next person should be Bernard Barrian

No, you have it wrong – very wrong. I live in ACC country and I have seen every game Ponder played and everyone he didn’t play, due to injury. FSU was a better team with EJ Emanuel than Ponder. Ponder’s career stats will tell you that his TD/INT ratio is 1:1. You must know all the experts were puzzled by the early pick of Ponder. There was a reason for that. Ponder was the 4th or 5th best QB in the ACC, a league not known for football. He was behind Wilson, Taylor, Yates and O’Brien. He started with a weak arm, that he hurt. His arm got only worse. He tucks and runs because he cannot make down field throws. Some GM should be fired. NOW YOU HAVE IT STRAIGHT.
