If I were a Carolina fan I would be very, very excited about my team right now. Young coach, young qb, and an owner willing to spend the money to get the players they need.

I’m glad my Jaguars don’t have to play them twice a year because they are, without a doubt, on the rise.

As a Panthers fan I’m glad we get Olsen, but I’m scared of what we gave up for the guy… I still can’t believe we traded Chris Harris to the Bears for a backup LB last year. Hope the Bears didn’t trade rape us yet again

The Charlotte Observer is reporting that Carolina only gave up a 3rd round pick in 2012. No player was sent to Chicago for Olsen.

The Big Cat made a shrewd but unpopular business decision in 2010 and it will pay off in the years to come now that we have locked up our core players. We are not finished signing free agents to compliment the core. In the NFL’s toughest division, it is great to see the Panthers commitment to competing. Look forward to an exciting year!

Okay, a third round pick. Now lets sign Malcolm Flloyd so we can trade away Knox, Hester, and Bennett for a case of Bud Light. I guess he didnt want to play for Martz, they werent going to resign him, and they obviously are going to phase out TE play so what do you do??

While I’m not excited to see Olsen leave, I have to say that I do get it…but only, and only if the Bears get after a serious WR with some size and athleticism. Don’t get me wrong, I’m a big fan of Olsen’s, although he lacked in areas that this particular offense needed him to excel at.

In Martz’s offense, the TE needs to be a blocker first. The only reason he caught as many passes as he did last year is because the WR corps lacks. The fact is, Martz’s system is in place…

I think most people are angry because Olsen was a pretty popular guy with fans in Chicago. If the Bears pick up a true #1 WR, you’ll miss Greg, but the Bears will actually be better. Hard to believe, I know…

I’m not mad at the Bears for trading Greg Olsen. He doesn’t fit the Mike Martz offense, and likely would’ve left in FA next year. However, I’m extremely disappointed in the complete lack of activity during the deepest free agency period in NFL history. One rookie OT won’t be enough to transform the worst offensive line in the league.

Don’t know what the Bears are thinking. Olson was their leading receiver and only true threat. The only reason Knox and Hester got catches was because of the attention Olson commanded.

Now Cutler only has the other team to throw to.

Saying that Kellen Winslow Jr is the best TE in the mighty NFC South is 110% illogical. In order:

1) Tony Gonzalez on the hated Dirty Birds
2) Jimmy Graham on the rapidly rising Saints
3) Greg Olsen on the who-will-throw-him-the-ball Panthers
4) Kellen Winslow Jr – aka walking infirmary

Chicago Tribune also says it was for a 3rd round pick only. Said a player was discussed but they ultimately agreed to the draft pick only.

I will never understand why the Bears never just played Olsen at WR. He runs a sub 4.4 – 40 yard dash so he is fast enough to play WR and the Bears WR have been little to be desired.

There are actually some (few) Panther fans thinking they are set at TE and that Olsen is excessive.

Olsen will be the 2nd best pass option and gives the Panther its best interior target in a decade.

I would believe with a player the pick is probally a third and player in the realm of MLB Dan Conner/SS Godfrey/DE Everette Brown/RB Mike Goodson…

Great move by Carolina and gives them a young team with guys OC Ron Chudzinski have worked with(Shockey, Olsen) and will use.. Huge move.
