I will summarize what I, and everyone else with a clue about Belichick/Patriots already knows (and has been posting about all day):

Belichick routinely switches to 4-3 fronts, half the time. His preference is the 3-4, but he also uses the 4-3 to give the offense a different look, and to allow him to try different things. Depends on his roster more than anything.

Belichick routinely takes prototypical Nose Tackles, and plays them at Defensive End, last year Garrard Warren, Mike Wright, and Vince Wilfork all lined up as Defensive Ends at various points of the season.

So think of it this way, when they are playing in the 3-4 front, you are looking at Ty Warren/Vince Wilfork/Albert Haynesworth on the line. When they line up in the 4-3, you are looking at Ty Warren/Vince Wilfork/Gerrard Warren/Albert Haynesworth. Plus any combination of moving those guys from left, to right, inside to outside, etc.

If this deal works out, the Pats just took a mediocre defense, and turned them into a top 10 defense. Again, IF things work out.

So there you have it, you were wrong, now you have been corrected, or to use your phrasing, you have been clued in

Knowing how rarely Belichick fails at these things, and knowing Haynesworth is friggin poison, makes this very interesting to watch.

The Pats had no pass rush at all last season with a roster picked by Belichek, but Belichek is a genius. The Pats’ best rusher last season was Banta-Cain and he’s been released by Belichek, but Belichek is a genius. Since the Pats have no pass rush because of roster moves orchestrated by Belichek, Belichek gets Haynesworth, who’s proven that he’s prone to laying down on the field, to come in as a pass rusher, so Belichek is a genius. OK, I get it now.

Frankly I don’t care if they can get anything out of him, between his problems off the field (lawsuit after lawsuit) and his occasional bouts of uncontrollable anger / head stomping I see him as being the absolute poster child for the phrase “More trouble than he’s worth.”

Pats are almost as bad a fit for Haynesworth as the Skins. He does one thing really well, and that is tee off on the QB without any read-and-react responsibility.
