Bengals add ex-Raider Thomas Howard

The Cincinnati Bengals have made a move that will garner slightly less attention than the Chad Ochocinco trade, but which will make a significant difference on their defense.

The Bengals have reached an agreement with former Raiders linebacker Thomas Howard on a two-year, $6.5 million contract, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.

Howard lost his starting job and played a reserve role last season, and it’s been clear for months that Howard is no longer in the Raiders’ plans.

But in Cincinnati he’ll get a chance to compete for a starting spot again, and there’s no question he’s talented. A 2006 second-round draft pick, Howard started every game but two in his first four NFL seasons.

Looks like a good pickup. Definitely need to bolster our LB corps. This would seem to indicate that Dhani is not coming back.

Fast… good in coverage… liability against the run.

Loved Thomas and Johnnie Lee Higgins here at UTEP. Solid and exciting players.

Honestly coming from a raider fan, he shoulda been the starter alllllll last season. Quentin Groves was awful. Howard is one of the fastest LB’s I have ever seen. Pass D is like a safety, run D he covers sidleine to sideline but itsn’t an inbetween the tackles stuffer. Bengals will like him. Good locker room guy too. enjoy Bruce Gradkowski too, he is a low budget Jeff Garcia lol.

Smart pickup and a good fit in Zimmers D. Marvin has been infatuated with Howard since he came out of UTEP. This gives Cincy Howard @ SLB, Maualuga @ MLB & Rivers @ WLB. That’s a nice young LB corps.

my last favorite raider… its good for him… no way piece of crap quinton groves starts over Howard… and he’s not a liability on the run, the raiders d line would get so owned they blocked him from making plays

I always liked Howard. He’s crazy fast and good in coverage. He seemed to be a liability in the run game, but Oakland’s run D overall has been terrible for years. Too bad he didn’t end up on a better team.

    Great in coverage!

The Raiders didn’t blitz him anywhere near enough.

He’s extremely fast, he’s smart, good in coverage and he has a great attitude.

He is a liability in run support though, dude can’t shed blocks.

I love these people who say he’s a great linebacker except he can’t play the run. Newsflash people: If you can’t play the run you’re useless as a linebacker!!!

no way were the riaders going to pay him 3 mil per season to ride pine.
