clavette -

Yeah, damn Buddy Nix for doing what he can to make this team competitive now instead of playing for a 1-15 season so we can draft Andrew Luck.

Buffalo was 4-12 last season. They lost 6 games by less than a touchdown. They played one of the toughest schedules in the league - 7 of their games were against playoff teams and they played both Super Bowl teams. They were a dropped touchdown away from beating the eventual AFC Champions in OT.

Why should we be aiming for the worst record in the league? Why NOT try to win now? Why purposely aim to be bad so that you can maybe have a shot at a guy with a 50/50 (at best) shot of being a bust in the NFL - assuming of course he doesn't implode during the college season a la Jake Locker?

Screw that - you play this game to win.

As a Bills fan, I was skeptical at first. The more I think about it the more I like it. Chan Gailey loves his gimmick plays and this gives him a ridiculous amount of flexibility.

All signs point to Buffalo moving to a spread offense with lots of pistol and wildcat formations. The new roster rules mean Brad Smith can slide right in at 3rd QB so we don't have to sacrifice any WRs to get him on the active roster. Gailey loves his gimmick plays and now has 3 guys that can run, pass, or catch. If Buffalo comes out in some bizzare Wildcat with CJ, Brad Smith, and Roscoe all in the backfield then what the hell does the defense do? Any one of the three could take the snap and throw it, any one of the three could run with it, any one of the three could break out on a pass route. LB heads will be a-spinnin.

Brad Smith also means that we no longer have to risk starters (i.e. CJ Spiller and Leodis McKelvin) on kick and punt returns.

The real reason I have no problem with it, though? It doesn't hurt our ability to bring in other guys we NEED. Buffalo came in with $36 mil available. We've spent $8 mil of that. (5 for Florence, 3 for Smith)

Lets shoot high and assume our rookies cost us $10 mil (won't happen under the new CBA) That leaves us with $18 mil under the cap for this season without even using any of the new tricks allowed under the CBA to free up extra space. PLENTY of cash to go out and grab a Clabo and a Burnett with room left to spare.

(On a side note, though, we do need to reup Stevie Johnson long term, like... yesterday)

Pass-Heavy offenses don't need to be on the field to be effective, and if you fall behind, you still plan on toting the rock every down? And drafting Dareus should improve that front 7.

@btowngetsdown

You might wanna check your math... thats about $3.75mil a season. And don't forget, Smith may fill us in on what makes the Jets tick.

Rabidbillsfan

We won't need to cover the bills receivers since they'll be on the sidelines most of the game. The jets have ran all over the bills the past 2 years averaging more than 250 yds a game.

Pipe down until your front offense does something to address that god awful front 7.

Brad..You've gone...to a better place.

Love hearing how jets have got a 'genius' Tanny working the FA market.

Question???? What about the bottom 30 of roster...the guys who fill in for injuries, half of whom will be starting by end/year??

Looks like jets will be filling 1/2 their roster w/street FA's...on their way to their 43rd straight SB victory.

Funny thing is...their fans think everyone envies them...when we are all laughing @ them...such pitiful pervs.

Asa Jet Fan I am sorry to see him go. But he seems like a quality person and I hope he does well in Buffalo. He opens up some interesting wildcat possibilities with CJ Spiller and Fitz.

I really like Fitzgerald he has a lot of heart. It's hard not root for the Bills to do well. Although Buffalo is in a tough division. With Miami picking up Bush and Orton and their young receiving core they could be very dangerous. The Pats picking up and possibly motivating Haynesworth scares me. Not to mention their two young TE's, improving secondary and new RBs. If the Jets add Nnamdi it could be on really great division. There is not an easy team in the AFC East including Buffalo.

That's a blow to the jets special teams, but no chance smith would have got anywhere near that kind of money from the jets. Kudos for him for taking his one chance at a big pay day. He's a great guy and a great player.

B. Smith was not a bad receiver, but was 4th on the depth chart, so he did not get that many looks. He was more effective in the Wildcat, averaging about 8 yards per carry, a lot on 3rd down. He also threw a TD and ran back 2 kickoffs for TD's, 1 with no shoe. So, that has some serious value

He'll be missed, and I'm glad he got paid, but the Bills might have overpaid on that one. +$4 mil per year is a lot for him. Hope he doesn't earn it against the Jets. We all saw what sweet little Woodhead did against the Jets.

Stats for Ease
carries yards avg td's
   38 299 7.9 1
