After one year in Arizona, Joey Porter could be on the way out.
Kent Somers of the Arizona Republic reports that the Cardinals want Porter to take a pay cut from the $5.75 million salary. If he doesn’t, the Cardinals would probably cut him.
Realistically, it’s tough to see Porter making $5.75 million anywhere else if he refuses to take the Cardinals’ offer. Porter is 34 years old and had just five sacks last year, tied for the fewest he’s had in any season since his rookie year.
Then again, Porter doesn’t always have the most levelheaded assessment of things. It wouldn’t be surprising to hear him tell the Cardinals to take their offer of a pay cut and shove it. In which case he’d be free to test free agency.
