Darrelle Revis: Nnamdi Asomugha and I would be unbelievable

Darelle Revis wants Nnamdi Asomugha as a teammate.

Revis, the Jets cornerback who has been proclaimed the best player in the NFL by coach Rex Ryan, says he thinks Asomugha is an even better cornerback -- and he hopes the Jets sign Asomugha and make Revis the No. 2 cornerback on the team.

“He’s the best cornerback in the league,” Revis said. “Me and him as a tandem would be unbelievable. It’d be awesome, so I would love to have him as a teammate.”

Revis declined to answer when asked if he would restructure his own contract so that the Jets could do a deal with Asomugha. But he said it wouldn’t bother him at all if he’s no longer the highest-paid cornerback on the team.

“That’s Nnamdi’s situation,” Revis said. “Money is not the issue here. The issue here with us, is just trying to build a championship-caliber team. . . . I’m not angry at what anybody gets. . . . Nnamdi is deserving of getting the top dollars, which he has to do. My thing is, I hope we get him.”

Revis is right: As great as the Jets’ defense already was, this is a signing that would make the Jets’ defense unbelievable.
