Redskins cut seven, including Rabach and Kemoeatu

Dallas Cowboys v Washington Redskins Getty Images

News about cuts have trickled out the last few days, but we expect a deluge of releases on Thursday when they can become official later this afternoon.

The Redskins are starting their day aggressively.

CSNWashington.com’s Ryan O’Halloran passes along word the following players have been cut: center Casey Rabach, defensive lineman Phillip Daniels, defensive lineman Maake Kemoetau, running back Chad Simpson, running back Andre Brown, wide receiver Roydell Williams and punter Sam Paulescu.

The Redskins signed Barry Cofield from the Giants, who will help replace Daniels and Kemoeatu.  The team has no punters on the roster at the moment.

Rabach has started at center for the team for six years and it’s unclear who will replace him.

As an Eagles fan, all I can say is: “Good job, Washington!!”

This is what happens when you bring in a new ‘regime’ of coaches and let them impose their own… everything. The Redskins had a decent defense when they ran a 4-3, and could have simply added a player or two to make it VERY good. Instead, they bring in Shanahan, who though he is an offensive mind, feels that he HAS to impose ‘his way’ on every aspect of the team. So, they move to a 3-4 defense — without having any of the personnel to run it.

    Now they have even less.
    Thank you, Mike!

Skins are now punter-free. John Beck is never going to not convert by third down.

The Roydell Williams move was because he scared away Brandon Stokely.

Philip Daniels is the dude though. That was an unfortunate move.

Both of last year’s guards (Kory Lichtensteiger and Will Montgomery) are really centers, so it will be one of those two.

You’ll be missed Rabach. You were a class act on a team where that’s pretty damn rare. I’m a little terrified of what the O-Line will look like apart from Big Trent.

I approve of every single cut on this list…im feeling the organization starting to move in the right direction…only took a decade or so

No he won’t. He was the worst center in football. He played on skates. Be won’t be missed in the least. I hope he signs in the NFC East and plays so that we can play against him. This is the best news of free agency thus far.

rabach had to go, be got pushed around all year. sucks to lose daniels, good guy, but we should have Jenkins to take his place. that’s a huge upgrade. hate all you want but this 3-4 D is starting to shape up nicely. I love it!

Pjcostello as an Eagle fan you should realize that Philadelphia`s defense was just as bad as the Skins were! I think you should be more concerned with Desean holding out!

  14. bigmann1977 says: Jul 28, 2011 12:38 PM

OK… For all of you ‘they keep signing 4-3 players to play in the 3-4′ people… one question: how many colleges run a 3-4 defense? Enough said.

Thank you redskins, for making the rest of us feel better about our teams.

  18. kadavenskd says: Jul 28, 2011 12:57 PM

Read the comment. I said he was a class act, not a great center. He was a solid leader and at least held together some pretty atrocious lines over the last few years.

  19. philtvc65 says: Jul 28, 2011 1:14 PM

Yes I am. I have Navajo ancestry and I don’t find it in the least bit racist, you are very boring mad5555, go and find a brain little man.

Hey, tombradysunderpants I don’t think the Texans would agree, he turned that offense into a real power house !!

I couldn’t agree with you more. Rabach SUCKED. There was oen game where he was out most of the game and Montgomery played center and Heyer came in as guard. McNabb had Tom Brady time back there and the skins were ramming the running game down the defense’s throat. Rabach was the biggest problem with the offense in the last 3 years.

  22. mswravens says: Jul 28, 2011 2:44 PM

They signed two former Ravens (Stallworth & Wilson)….so it’s only fitting that they let two former Ravens go (Rabach & Kemeato)
