Haynesworth didn’t want to play NT in a 3-4, but he was willing to play DE in the same 3-4. Washington only wanted him at NT.

BB will put him @ DE and all will be well….

Everyone on here is trying to say BB is the only coach who can get anything out of fat Albert and this is the best place for him to go, which. simply isn't true. Everyone is forgetting that so far the only coach to get anything out of him was washburn and the eagles would probably be the best place for him to go. The Redskins know that and did what they had to to keep that from happening. With that said, I'm glad the Eagles didn't get him, they are moving in the right direction and don't need to risk adding a cancer to their roster and mess everything up. With washburn as the d-line coach he can make new stars outta the eagles young linemenand bringing Jason Babin back was huge so good luck to the patriots with that and unfortunately this move made the Redskins better as well

By the way, MDS should only be allowed to write for PFT if he knows any facts.

The big time error in his column: HAYNESWORTH NEVER WON DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR!!!

Think about it, please MDS!!! Even if he truly was the best defensive player, he would never win because the media would know that he only played on deals 1 year remaining to get a BIG FAT PAYDAY!!!!

ok first off anyone who thinks bill belichick isn't the greatest active coach or one of the greatest coaches of all time doesn't know anything about football or just hates the patriots

That being said i think this is a great move as a patriots fan...haynesworth was a malcontent because he hated shanahan and because they tried forcing him into a system he wasn't at all comfortable with plus shanahan repeatedly went out of his way to embarrass him...he's gonna be ultra motivated next year the same way randy moss was and if he isn't they cut him and just lose a 5th round pick...we needed a pass rusher and when this guy is on his is one of the most dominant pass rushers in the league he can slide to the right end in the 3-4 and also play the 2nd tackle spot in the 4-3 when the patriots switch to that as they did a lot last year...this will wind up being a total steal

A little bit of a reach there pal. He [Belichick] isn’t even in the top-20 all-time. He MIGHT be in the top-10 of active coaches. Even that’s a stretch.

I think someone named Brady has a lot more to do with the Pat’s success than Bill does…

Without Brady he’s 52-60 (only 2 winning seasons)
With Brady he’s 110 – 34

Do the math….

Really? I don't want to argue with you because you obviously aren't very well informed about NFL football, but if you want EIGHT expert opinions about the best coach in football then read this:

I'll shut up soon I promise...
Just thinking, with a bigger more aggressive front defense and the beautiful things going on with this secondary... Who needs linebackers? Good ones are hard to find these days (theyre all on BAL), and with a huge but fast 4 man D front and a tough but talented set of corners and safeties (Pats are in Nickel a lot anyway, they usually are forcing teams to throw just by scoring consistently, now by taking away the run) you just need a couple smart decision makers in the middle (Mayo, Spikes) to control the field.

Also this D is being built specifically to terrorize and snap the up and coming offenses in NYJ and BAL, the current and future challengers in the AFC.

@cup1981

Most of that was in Cleveland, a team determined to lose, no matter what the cost. NE went 11-5 without Brady, actually with a QB that was completely untested in the NFL, Won their last 4 after a loss to PIT which looked like a season killer...

@ Timmons94

NE wins again, we have 3 consecutive playoff losses you only have 1 : )

@ all the guys who think WAS just got something for nothing-
They kinda did, but they turned something to nothing first. Zorn and now that lunatic Shanahan. Somebody should take that team away from Dan Snyder.

This player was incredible on Tennessee and was then signed to a team with terrible coaching and ownership, no direction or really even the will to win. You'd lie down eventually too. He's a competitor who shot his way out, it happens. Unless he's contemplating retirement like real soon you're going to see what you missed out on soon enough.

cup1981 says:

A little bit of a reach there pal. He isn’t even in the top-20 all-time.

--------------------------------------------------

Please list those oh-so-many active coaches better than him. Since he MIGHT be one of the Top 10 of coaches in the NFL right now, which is in your words, a stretch.

The world awaits your brilliant insight and analysis.

Haynesworth's biggest issue with the 3-4 was that he didn't want to play NT. With Wilfork in NE, they won't ask him to. He'll slide over to 3-4 DE, which actually fits what he does even better than a 4-3 DT.

I hate the guy, but I love the move.

semperfi is spot on. The Pats aren't a classic 3-4 team in the same sense that the Steelers are. Haynesworth isn't a NT--he'd be the first to tell you that, if his time in Washington is any indication. He'll be a DT in the 4-3 and probably a strong side DE in some 3-4 packages.

Now Belichick's expertise deserves to be questioned!!!

Unless they go to a 4-3, they're screwed!!! They could sign or shift one or two unknown guys to defensive end(s), but this move is dumb!!!

I'm really intrigued by this. Not really mentioned above, our Pats defense have long lost the type of guy to can be nasty, gritty, tough, and more importantly, a playmaker. Having someone with his swagger on the field could be infectious. The Jets defense is full of them and to their credit, they back it up week in and week out.

We have up until now, a bunch of guys who are scared of the wrath of Belichick and have played like it. I want to see how this pans out - but for a fifth rounder two years from now??? Hell, BB is going to acquire seven more fifth round picks between then anyway. We essentially got him for nothing.

Oh, and thank you burgundyandgold for letting us violate you on that Mcnabb trade. 2nd and a 4th for a 6th and maybe another 6th? I'd pull the trigger on that deal any day of the week. Once again, your vaunted leader has lead you astray. So lose the hope, and hope for his stocks to crash.
