Cam Newton will get his wish: Wide receiver Steve Smith reportedly isn’t going anywhere.

Pete Prisco of CBSports.com reports that Smith “almost certainly” isn’t going to be dealt.

The Panthers reportedly considered dealing Smith, but that changed in recent days as Smith apparently warmed to the idea of heading up a promising young receiver group. He met with the team Thursday morning.

Florio pointed out on Carolina radio recently that Newton is just the guy to mend fences with Smith.

(Besides, Smith couldn’t punch Newton in the face without a stool.)

UPDATE: Smith confirmed to Pro Football Weekly that he wants to stay in Carolina after discussing it with his family.
