Saints acquire Jonathon Amaya in Reggie Bush trade

The exact compensation the New Orleans Saints received for trading Reggie Bush to the Dolphins hasn’t been revealed, but one player who’s part of the trade has been named.

Safety Jonathon Amaya is heading to the Saints, ESPN reports.

Amaya signed with the Dolphins as an undrafted free agent out of Nevada-Reno last year and played in 10 regular-season games as a key special teams contributor. He led the Dolphins with 15 tackles in kick coverage in 2010.

Said Dolphins coach Tony Sparano, “Amaya might have been our best special teams player last year.”

Now the Saints hope he can make a similar contribution in New Orleans.

Dolphins filled Amaya’s 10 year old pickup truck with used equipment to complete the deal.

Believe it or not, this is a tough loss for the Dolphins. This kid is an exceptional ST player and may turn into a regular contributor in the defensive backfield. As a Fin fan, I am sorry to see him go.

Saints fan should be happy with this get.

I’m sure it’s not just Amaya. I hope Reggie works out better for you guys than he did for us Saints fans.

Have you seen Bush play lately?

So the Dolphins decide to dump their best special teams player. Okay. And they won’t even give away a third round draft pick for Kyle Orton, who was a top 10 QB until he was injured last year.

    Stupid stupid stupid.

Couldn’t agree more. Orton should be a priority for that team. Orton was having a career year last year.

The Saints offense struggled without Bush last year. He was the wild card threat that defenses worried about, able to hit the homerun on any play. I don’t think it was a good move.

Dolphins, however are built to run the ball. So who’s that guy? It’s not Reggie.

Never heard of the kid, but the Saints do need to improve on ST, so this sounds like a good pickup. Can’t wait to hear what else they got.

Dude, Brandon 2.2 ypc Jackson has more rushing yards in a season than Reggie Bush…just sayin’
