and also jsrdc, yall were 18 million over the cap, all those cuts you name only =16 mil, that means yall are only making space from re-structuring romo, ware, and austin's contracts, unless you cut more people, so even if u sign nnamdi, there's no way u help the other positions, so in a way, I hope yall bring him in, and it keeps the cowgirls from making other improvements

hey jsr, I'm not acting like snyder hasn't made mistakes in the past, every player that u listed was true they didn't work out well, but the cowboys haven't had the greatest FA or trade history either, how about Drew Bledsoe, Roy Williams, Pac Man Jones, and whoever JJ brings in to play safety or corner! but anyway, that wasn't the point, the point is we currently have better cap management that your team, we are still have atleast 20 million to work with after all our rookie signings, what do yall have, a horrible secondary, pipe dreams of landing nnamdi, a center who just had knee surgery, a cut starting guard, tackle, and a rookie at RT, and barely any money to help your team, pray for romo's other collarbone

Sounds like you are a bit of a loner as a Redskin fan who is questioning this acquisition of Bowen, as a lot of other Skins fans who have posted on here have on the rose colored glasses. Bowen could be good. He is young, and has potential. I still think they gambled a good amount of money on him based on his stats that you so aptly pointed out. I think you backed off Jenkins to finally slow down the spending spree, and because they probably didn't want to get into a bidding war.

Redskins fanatic here. Yeah, yeah...insert joke here.

Not so sold on this move or the Carter pickup. Bowens may have been a sleeper FA this year but most of what I've seen on Carter is he's a solid backup. Best I've seen on Bowen is he's third on the Cowboys with 12 QB pressures & has 5.5 career sacks.

Any Skins have any positive input here?

Or why we backed off Jenkins?

baddegg,

You should care what Snyder does because it is YOU the fan who are paying Snyder who in turn pays these players. It is YOU who are flipping the bill for Snyder and all of his well known mistakes – Case in point – Fat Albert Haynesworth, who will go down as THE WORST FA signing of all time. Snyder doesn’t ALWAYS make stupid moves. Atogwe was a good signing. Beyond that I have no other examples, LOL. We agree – Bowen will show his worth one way or the other.

Yes, this is why I don't purchase merch from the Skins but just watch the games on "free TV." I don't want to give Snyder my money, until he produces a winner.

At the same time, I have been a fan for so many years, I have to root for them every year and if Snyder is willing to spend, I'm all for it. It's not Snyder's spending that is the problem, it is spending on the wrong guys (like Haynesworth). The big question is whether he's learned his lesson and whether the football guys there are taking the reins effectively. In the end, it's all message board banter. At the end of the year, everyone will have a W-L record and that will be the final word...

btw, asking about getting under the salary cap, you obviously don't watch or listen to NFL network or ESPN. In addition to Roy Williams getting cut (5 million off the cap), did you hear about Leonard Davis (6 million off the cap), and Barber (4.75 million off the cap) and lastly Kris Brown ($910,000 off the cap) ALSO getting cut? Roughly 16.6 million right there, and they aren't done. More cuts will be coming.....

cutthajokes, that is what you get for thinking. I am not bitter at all, nor am I worried about the 4skins whatsoever. But as a division foe, I keep up with what Snyder and the team are doing. I will be the first to agree that the Roy Williams deal was horrible, and I didn't like it one bit from the beginning. It is easy to say this after the fact, isn't it? The Cowboys are going to be just fine with the cap, otherwise Free wouldn't have gotten his sweet contract, one he will be well worth it. Unlike Bowen, Free proved himself ever since Flozell was cut, but you never hear anything about Free getting the credit he deserves, or JJ getting the credit he deserves for cutting Adams to allow Free to step in. It is only negative credit or no credit for JJ. Most disagreed with the move to cut Adams, but it worked out very well. BTW, you as the pot calling the kettle black just doesn't work with regards to what I mentioned before in Fat Albert. You ask how Roy Williams worked out for us - you now have a dirty fat overrated DT leaving with 20 million of Synder's (and the fans) $ for New England, and you are getting a 2013 5th round pick in return. WELL DONE.

why no mention of the redskins getting CB Josh Wilson from Baltimore @ 3 years 13.5 mil???

probably the best signing we’ve made in years! best CB ravens had…

I don't know if Redskins fans are lazy, stupid, or just beaten into submission by the reign of Danny the Midget, but the link was posted roughly 24 hours ago. Since I'm in a generous mood, I'll post the link for you:

Don't even TRY to come on here and act like Cowboy fans (or any other fan for that matter) don't have a platform for criticizing Snyder and his FA signings. Snyder has made the WORST mistakes with FA signings over any other owner in the league hands down. To name a few - Dana Stubblefield, Adam Archuletta, Deion Sanders, Albert Haynesworth - Check out all of those signings, the $ Snyder spent on bringing them all in, and then see how the players played and how long they stuck around in response to those huge contracts. It is well known that the Cowboys are cutting players to get under the cap, but don't sit here and act like they are the only team doing it. It was time for Roy Williams to go. It was time for Davis to go. It was time for Barber to go. Their #1 goal was to re-sign Free, and they did it. Next, it was time to get a contract with G Kyle Kosier and Rookie OT Tyron Smith. They accomplished both. Bowen was a guy the Cowboys would like to have kept for his potential, NOT for his past production, and they would have gotten him for a cheap price had Snyder not paid what he did for him. Time will tell how he pans out, but that just opens the door for us to go after a FA DE, like Cullen Jenkins, and BELIEVE YOU ME, there is enough $ to sign him - that isn't anything you have to worry about.

Once again, I have to read through a bunch of idiotic posts by people who have no clue what they are talking about, just love to hate on teams. For one, the Skins are still 30 mil under the cap with all but 2 of their 12 draft picks signed. Bowen was a good pickup at a need, he's 27, not 31 like Jenkins and the Cowboys wanted to keep him. This team had to use this free agency to fill all the holes left by the older players we needed to let go to get younger and more athletic. They still need another cb, but the D is actually shaping up very nicely. Offense will be addressed next year. This team isn't trying to win this year, if they were, Asomougha, Jenkins, Franklin wouldve been signed on tuesday at 10am. Yeah the past 12 years have been awful, but i'll say it again, this team is on the right track and has def changed their ways. 6-10 is probably the record after this year, but 9 picks in 2012 and in 2013 will complete the process

Snyder doesn’t ALWAYS make stupid moves. Atogwe was a good signing. Beyond that I have no other examples, LOL. We agree – Bowen will show his worth one way or the other.

jsrdc- Are you that bitter dude?

A real Redskins fan knows this team is far from contending for a Super Bowl, even making the playoffs is out of site.

Stop worrying about Bowen, he's going to fit in nicely for us. Worry about what your team is going to do, and stop worry so much about what the Redskins are doing.

Did the Cowgirls get under the cap yet? Last time I checked, they were 18 million over.

How did that Roy Williams trade work out for you guys. I thought he was bringing a Super Bowl to Dallas.

jsrdc, thanks for the clarification.

BUT, I did have to just take a little shot. It just seems like whenever the Redskins make a move, everyone rationalizes why it's a stupid move.

Bottom line, Cowboys were targeting him to keep, and the Redskins outbid them. "Overpay" is a ridiculous argument. Redskins have avoided cap hell for years despite all predictions to the contrary. After that, it's Snyder's money, so why should I care. I'm glad they got a guy they think can contribute.

That said, yes, he has to show his worth now. The coming season will show it one way or the other.

ocho,

12.5 million over 5 years guaranteed for a guy with 1.5 sacks last year.? "Bowen is only guaranteed 12.5 million over 5 years". It isn't a bad thing for Snyder who is used to overpaying for players. IF Bowen meets performance incentives, if the skins pay him anything close to that figure over the course of his contract..... There are a lot of ifs in your post. 2.5 million per year if he stayed all 5 years and performs commensurate with his pay ISN'T a bad deal. But what happens if he ends up only staying one or two years, and then gets cut, you do the math - 12.5 million guaranteed for only one year, or 6.25 million for 2 years in guaranteed $ that Snyder would have to eat. You are right when you say "some ppl just don't have a clue to what is going on". Only lasting one or two years is where the risk lies with this contract and you conveniently aren't addressing this in your post, now are you?

"gotcha"? No, you don't got it at all. Don't try to pigeonhole me with what I said, so I will clarify it more for you - you 4skin fans need help understanding at times, so allow me to 'splain. Yes, he was supposed to be a starter for Dallas because we don't currently have anybody better at DE - like S, it is absolutely a position of need. Like I said, I would have been fine with keeping him for his sleeper potential, but absolutely would have passed on matching what Snyder payed him, as he IS an unproven player with only 1.5 sacks last year. He was an UFA, so he had the option to test the market, and Snyder obviously paid him on potential, not on his results. He is a sleeper - and now we will all see if he stays asleep.
