Brandon Mebane stays with Seattle Seahawks

Bringing back defensive tackle Brandon Mebane was identified as the Seahawks’ biggest priority in free agency. Now they’ve done it.

Seahawks G.M. John Schneider confirmed that Mebane will return.

“Being able to re-sign one of your own guys who’s a hot commodity in free agency is huge for us,” Schneider said, per Danny O’Neil of the Seattle Times. “He wanted to stay here. We wanted him to stay here. Similar to Matt [Hasselbeck], we tried doing something before free agency and it didn’t work out. And then, we were able to keep the lines of communication open right after [the lockout] and everything came back on.”

Mebane was a 2007 third-round draft pick and has started 53 games in four seasons in Seattle.

    Hawks schedule is pretty tough this year but how can anyone say this team is worse than last years? All the pieces they have brought in has to make up for the slight difference in ability between Hasselbeck and Jackson/Whitehurst. I am not saying Jackson/Whitehurst are good, I am just saying Hasselbeck wasnt that good either.

    Cutting the dead line that was Hasselbeck, Sidney Rice, Brandon Mebane, Tarvaris Jackson, Robert Gallery, Alan Branch.

    Lot of smart moves.

    I like Mebane but I have to see the terms of the deal.

    My gut says we actually overpaid to keep him when we could have used some of that money to re-sign Matt!

    I think Alan Branch was a solid pickup for our line and could outplay Mebane.

    BOTTOM LINE: WE SHOULD HAVE RE-SIGNED MATT HASSELBECK!!!

    Tarvaris Jackson as our QB is a joke!

    Huge huge downgrade!

    Alan Branch is the ex Cardinal DT who you always saw on top of Hasselbeck as he blew up Chris Spencer on his way into the backfield.

    Thats who Alan Branch is.
