For those inclined to circumcise mosquitoes, Jay Glazer of FOX broke the news on Twitter of the Nnamdi Asomugha deal roughly three minutes before the Eagles announced the move via mass text message. (Adam Schefter of ESPN posted a bet-hedging tweet that Nnamdi “looks headed” to the Eagles before Glazer, but it wasn’t unequivocal and it was lacking his trademark breaking-news preface “Filed to ESPN.”) Any other “reports” coming after that weren’t really “reports” because the team had announced the move.
Far more intrigued to us is the thing that wasn’t -- and likely won’t be -- announced by the team involved only minutes after it was reported. Appearing on FOX Sports Radio after the Nnamdi news broke, Glazer reported that the Cardinals were a late entry into the Nnamdi sweepstakes, getting involved Thursday night but bowing out fairly quickly.
In the end, the known suitors were the Texans, 49ers, Cowboys, Jets, Cardinals, and Eagles. The Bucs never were in the thing, even though some assumed that their cap room made them players.
But given the Eagles’ ability to keep their pursuit of Asomugha quiet, who knows who else may have been kicking the tires?
