Coughlin doesn’t seem inclined to kiss up to Plaxico

Tom Coughlin

Yes, the Giants are interested in Plaxico Burress.  Yes, Burress is interested in the Giants.

No, Tom Coughlin isn’t interested in puckering up his lips and applying them to Burress’ butt in order to make it happen.

Coughlin spoke at training camp Friday regarding his upcoming meeting with Burress, and Coughlin minced no words.

What I have to hear is sincerity,” Coughlin said, per Jeff Roberts of NorthJersey.com.  Coughlin added that he expected Burress to be a changed man, and that Coughlin himself hasn’t changed.

Asked why he agreed to meet with Burress, Coughlin said that, first, team ownership asked him to do it and that, second, “it’s business.”

By the sound of it, Coughlin has little interest in doing business with Burress, unless the guy who shows up tonight is dramatically different than the guy Coughlin coached in 2008.

    Smoke and mirrors.

Plaxico Burres won’t be a Giant.

  2. goawayeverybody says: Jul 29, 2011 7:43 PM

Burress is going to the Steelers anyway. Too bad tho.

  3. promin1 says: Jul 29, 2011 7:44 PM

Stubborn old fool. When will the front office realize he is costing the team more than helping?

  4. bleedgreen says: Jul 29, 2011 7:46 PM

Plax just wants a free dinner. He probably already signed in Philly.

  5. chazzgoodtimes says: Jul 29, 2011 7:47 PM

Don’t think the Giants or Steelers really have a need for Plaxico. Tennessee seems like a good fit.

  6. xinellum says: Jul 29, 2011 7:48 PM

sounds like a reincarnation of Donte Stallworth at Baltimore. Give him a year to prove hes changed, run a few end arounds and let him go. I can see where that would be a perfect fit for Baltimore. Thats why they havent gotten anyone yet, they are holding out for a few end runs. (sarcasm)

At this point isn’t obvious he signing with Philly. Fake out on dallas one day fake out on the giants the next

  8. touchdownroddywhite says: Jul 29, 2011 7:50 PM

I knew it wasn’t happening, unless Coughlin is blowing smoke.

  9. thefiesty1 says: Jul 29, 2011 7:51 PM

It should be the other way around. Plax should be kissing everyone backside crying to get back in.

  10. 3octaveFart says: Jul 29, 2011 7:55 PM

    Welcome back to Pittsburgh Plax.

  11. pacash80 says: Jul 29, 2011 7:55 PM

They ought to be interested, judging they Eli Manning do anything without him.

  12. jakek2 says: Jul 29, 2011 7:56 PM

Per NYPOST – The “meeting” was scheduled at 6 p.m. Plax arrived at 6:35 p.m.

    True story.

  13. backindasaddle says: Jul 29, 2011 7:58 PM

Plaxico probably disgusts Coughlin. Coughlin is an old-school stand up guy raised with values and principles about how to be a good man. He probably looks at Plaxico and damn near throws up.

I’ll take Plax over Coughlin! lol He arrived half hour late!? Come on Plax! lol Sorry but with him not even thebEagles new secondary has a shot. Plax will own Asante again, Cro will get out muscled by Nicks, and Smith will run prime routes and do his thing on the new blood. Plus there’s still Manningham, come on that’s a ridiculous receiving corp if it happens!

Coughlin is under too much pressure from Giants players who do nothing but lobby to get this man back on the team. If the guys all feel that way, you have to at least consider it.

  16. tyreeshelmet says: Jul 29, 2011 8:15 PM

Eli did nothing without plax? 8200 yards and over 60 tds in 2 years is nothing???

  17. thetooloftools says: Jul 29, 2011 8:17 PM

The Steelers are helping Plaxico find another job by showing interest.
They have no desire to bring him in nor do the Giants.
He is still a child and they know it.
The NFL wants these teams to meet with him, the teams don’t.
I’m not hatin’ on the guy, he just hasn’t changed and they will smell it on him.
They are hoping and praying a 3rd party steps in and makes him an offer… and he can be their problem.
He’ll never sniff big numbers again.
    This is all true.

Coughlin is right and the clown shows up a half hour late?!! I hope the coach said no thanks and walked out of the room. One of the most important meetings of your career and you show up late? C’mon slacker! Hail!

You’re a freaking idiot. Not only will you not be able to pass on the Eagles, our recievers are far superior to the Vagiants.

LOL! in what way? Nicks has better stats than Maclin! Manningham is just as fast as Jackson and Smith is better than any third receiver the pigeons have. Add Plax to that (who dominated Philly) and Philthy doesnt have a chance. Get a clue no balls.

Good for Coughlin, these players get in trouble, this one goes to prison. Then they come out and demand demand demand. Ask people who went to prison as a felon and tried to get a job when they got out. Sports world we make them God’s and pay them handfuls of money, as in Philly. Thes guys should be happy anyone would talk to them.. Good for you Coughlin!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  22. stro210 says: Jul 29, 2011 8:51 PM

nodak2de speak for yourself you clown.

Speak when you come home with the lombardi and get educated.

    Lets match up receivers…
    Nicks/Jackson? wash
Manningham/Cracklin? Manningham hands down, faster, quicker feet, better route runner for sure. Slot? Smith/Avant? This shouldn’t be debatable.

You’re teams done squat for the past 30 years. Quiet now child

  23. ep2404 says: Jul 29, 2011 9:17 PM

Damn Tom Coughlin he’s the same old goat.

  24. Deb says: Jul 29, 2011 9:22 PM

Hope they both order something easy to digest because this has the makings of an extremely awkward and uncomfortable dinner meeting.

  25. bleedgreen says: Jul 29, 2011 9:27 PM

    What? Manningham > Maclin?

    Manningham – 60 for 944
    Maclin – 70 for 964

  26. gcsuk says: Jul 29, 2011 9:44 PM

From the early looks of it, the Giants may NEED Burress at the beginning of the year. Unfortunately, that’s probably when he would be least effective, still getting into football shape.

I honestly don’t think Smith will be ready at the beginning of the season, and they already announced Barden is on the PUP list , so out the first 6 weeks.

That leaves Nicks, Manningham, Burress (if he signs), Jernigan (rookie), Derek Hagan (who does know the system and played pretty well last year), and Victor Cruz ( early IR last year).

I’m a Giants fan, and realistically even I would say that Asante, DRC, and Nnamdi could shut down that depleted receiving core. Hate to give props to the Eagles, but that is one SICK secondary.

Believe me, it kills me to give props to the Eagles. Thank God the games ain’t played on paper.
