Lions negotiating with Nick Barnett

Nick Barnett AP

Nick Barnett could wind up staying in the NFC North.

Tom Kowalski of MLive.com reports the Lions are trying to get the inside linebacker under contract.

Barnett indicated on Twitter that things are “moving” in his situation, and lauded the Lions and Chargers fans that are lobbying for him on Twitter.

San Diego already spent on Takeo Spikes and could re-sign Kevin Burnett, so Detroit looks like the more natural fit.

Looks like the Boys are about to sign Nnamdi

Barnett plays like a maniac. He’ll fit right in with Detroit’s other maniacs: Vanden Bosch, Suh, Delmas, Avril

This would be a good signing but i’d rather have Tulloch.. Now after saying that Tulloch may just want wayyyyy to much CASH….

What most fans don’t realize is that those are his real teeth in the accompanying photo.

One injury and this could be a bigger loss than most Packer fans realize.

    Ah man….
He just turned heel on us…
    (boo!)
Where’s that NWO wolfpac theme song when we need it?

He is no more impressive than 100 other guys. Came up big in small games. Won’t hurt ya, won’t help ya.

Barnett would definitely be an upgrade to anything the Lions have now at LB ….. But buyer beware ….. He’s missed 19 games over the last 3 seasons ….. Better have a back-up plan ……

Dude’s over rated. But, I guess if he comes cheap, then it’s a deal.

    Still no Briggs or Urlacher.

    Bear DOWN!

barnett is not a “Definite” upgrade over levy.

average not needed player. The pack will find someone off the street to develop behind Bishop (who is better anyway).

I don’t understand all these cheap shot put-downs.

Nick Barnett was a reliable consistent leader and contributor for the Packers until his injuries got to him.

He was an integral part of the Packers.

Hope he does not end up in the NFC North — but wish him nothing but the best (except when he plays the Packers — *especially* when he plays the Vikings!

Lions definitely upgraded their number of celebrations for tackles on 5+ yard gains per game.

    He’s no E.J. Henderson.

No wonder the Packers didn’t want him in their SB photo. Yikes! ;)

He is not an average Joe LB. I am a lions fan living in Packer country. I see all the packers games and am surrounded by their fans. He had 9 ints in his first 5 seasons as a LB. He adds to that 11.5 sacks and 120+ tackles a season. He missed 2 games in his first 5 years. He was hurt in 08 and played 9 games. Played a full 16 in 09 with over 100 tackles and 4 sacks. He played 4 games in 2010. Packers defense against run always dropped when Nick Barnett was out. 9 interceptions..did I mention that??? He has hands too.

He is a great player and I would be stoked if the lions brought him in to play with Levy. They would probably sign him to 1yr, maybe more if they are competing with SD in price and length.

Barnett, Levy and J Durant. With Bobby C and A shlee Palmer rotating to keep the three fresh, This is a definite upgrade to a spot that Lions fans like me were VERY concerned with. Now we get someone to help out E Wright and Alphonso Smith (hopefully re signing Chris Houston) and Delmas, that defense just might and don’t flip out sensitive posters, i said MIGHT, just be a top 10-15 defense.

All the Players the Packers have cut so far including Barnett are on the wrong side of 30 and have had injury issues the last 2 years….Ted Thompson has done the right thing in every instance. Both Barnett and Chillar missed more than 2/3 rds of the season and we did fine. Trust me Ted has a model that works as evident by the Superbowl championship season.

He’s like 15 other middle linebackers in the league. An average guy. I juries have slowed him down and has trouble getting off blocks. All those stats you list were pre season ending injury numbers. The majority of those tackles were 5-10 yards downfield.
