Oh by the way: Eagles add Donald Lee, Johnnie Lee Higgins

St. Louis Rams v Oakland Raiders Getty Images

The Eagles’ text heard around the world was rather understated:

“Eagles agree to terms with CB Nnamdi Aomugha ad DE Jason Babin each to five-year contracts and TE Donald Lee and WR Johnnie Lee Higgins to 1-year deals.”

Wait . . . what??  That’s former Packers tight end Donald Lee!  That’s former Raiders return man Johnnie Lee Higgins!

Kudos to Philly. They slipped the Lee and Higgins moves in under the radar without almost anyone guessing what they would do.

They should scrap the season and just give the trophy to the Eagles.

  2. mastermathias19 says: Jul 29, 2011 6:45 PM

    Damn Eagles!

  3. jjestes32 says: Jul 29, 2011 6:46 PM

It will still be hard for them to get by the Falcons….Vick will be hurt sometime this year as Falcons k ow 1st hand.

    Great pick on Nnamdi, kudos.

Eagles are spending like Yankees. If they don’t win it all this season, it can’t be done.

Philadelphia Eagles. Best Free agency signings ever to happen in the NFL.

I have to admit, Eagles are looking really good right now Vegas.

  7. smellmyface says: Jul 29, 2011 6:50 PM

And will one of these guys be playing QB when Vick gets knocked out mid season?

  8. childressrulz says: Jul 29, 2011 6:51 PM

hahahaha! all of them suck except Nnamdi. I guess they could win the NFC east or something. The east is becoming a joke!

  9. axespray says: Jul 29, 2011 6:52 PM

Best Madden Team in History tbh.

  10. whatchutalkinabouthillis says: Jul 29, 2011 6:52 PM

Ok I doubted the front office when they traded away McNabb. I doubted them when they decided Vick was a better QB than Kolb. And I doubted them when they said they were going to “make a splash” in free agency and then didn’t seem to be doing anything. I’ve decided never, ever to doubt the FO again.

  11. jimmysee says: Jul 29, 2011 6:53 PM

I always liked Donald Lee — hard worker — lunch pail type of guy. He’ll always give everything.

A major threat inside the 5.

    Good love Iggles.

  12. tfbuckfutter says: Jul 29, 2011 6:57 PM

Wait, according to Raider fans, Johnnie Lee Higgens is one of the pivotal members of the best WR corps ever assembled.

    This is disastrous for them.

  14. fdromanowski says: Jul 29, 2011 7:00 PM

It is going to take much more than Nnamdi for the Eagles to win this year. Losing Stewart Bradley is a considerable loss. Nnamdi is a great addition, but there is still a lot of work to be done in Philadelphia.

  15. thefirstsmilergrogan says: Jul 29, 2011 7:01 PM

think all three players upgrade positions of need.
backup tight end that can block.

return man to keep desean from having to do it.

corner that is willing to play the defense as it was drawn up instead of playing 15 yards off and allowing third down conversion after third down conversion while waiting to jump a pass route.

the first game of 2009 season Johnny Lee Higgins got popped by Eric Weddle and he’s been worthless ever since.

The Eagles have owned the Falcons the past 2 years. Kevin Kolb beat them last year pretty badly. And Vick played against them the year before and had some good stats.

Wow, signing players the Raiders didn’t want to resign. Impressive.

  21. prplngold4evr says: Jul 29, 2011 7:20 PM

Johnnie Lee Higgins?? Really? Yeah he’s got the size and stuff but when has he ever shown anything except the fact he’s always been overrated. This is an insignificant signing.

  22. nineroutsider says: Jul 29, 2011 7:21 PM

So the Eagles are now as overrated as the Phillies?

  23. balzosteel says: Jul 29, 2011 7:26 PM

Not to sound too much of a hater here, but Donald Lee kinda sucks. That guy just never quite lived up to his potential with my Packers.

All that being said, it’s a lock that the Pack ends up facing the Eagles for the NFCCG.

  24. gbfanforever says: Jul 29, 2011 7:35 PM

I’m with you, I held my breath every time the ball went his way. It was almost guaranteed to be a drop or a catch/fumble.

    @bleedgreen

Shut up, son. The company line for Eagles haters is that Kolb is a bum. They won’t compute the logic that either Kolb isn’t a bum or the Falcons stink.

  26. xstaticonradio says: Jul 29, 2011 7:49 PM

Out here his nickname is “Houdini” as he has a tendency to disappear for long periods of time.

I knew the Eagles fans wouldn’t like that… but it’s true. Success in the NFC East is measured in Super Bowl rings, not free agency splashes.

    Cowboys 5
    Giants 4
    Redskins 3
Eagles – better win at least one very soon, or your “best free agency signings ever” will be viewed as a huge waste.

  34. txraiderfan says: Jul 29, 2011 8:54 PM

Hmmm… the first couple of times Aso gets burnt, you’ll see he’s not as good as his reputation suggests. Don’t get me wrong, Uncle Al was foolish for giving Routt 10 mil per year, and the Raiders could have used his services, but Nam can be regularly beaten by good receivers. He wasn’t targeted that much because the other corners in Oakland just weren’t that good.
BTW how many career interceptions does he have?

  35. cleverbob says: Jul 29, 2011 9:07 PM

Ha, its almost formulaic. Eagles do something good, followed by a bunch of whining from fans of NFC East rivals. I’m sure half of these buffoons are too young to even remember when their teams won their last SB.

  36. txraiderfan says: Jul 29, 2011 9:18 PM

JLH still has potential to be really good. He just hasn’t been the same after a big hit a couple of years ago.

Clearly you’re a Cowboys fan and troll Eagles updates b/c you have nothing better to do but for once, I actually agree with you. Reid’s predictability and lack of time management kill me.

  38. renaissanceman87 says: Jul 29, 2011 9:41 PM

These guys will just be special team players, but hey, you can’t win the Superbowl if your returner can’t get it past the 20, and the other team is constantly starting at their 35.

    “txraiderfan says: Jul 29, 2011 8:54 PM

You mean how many times did he run clear to the other side of the field to catch the ball where it was thrown away from him? Probably not many I suspect.

What was the stat….something like 52 completed catches against him in the last THREE SEASONS?

But yeah, try and rationalize that your crappy team is better without him. But hey, you have Jason Campbell who is still on the way up, right?

That’s just lazy reporting. Raider fans on this site know Higgens got shy a couple of years ago. We’ve had Desmond Howard, Rocket Ismail, and Phillip Buchanon as kick returners. We know what sucks.
