Plaxico visits Giants tonight, Steelers tomorrow

As Giants co-owner John Mara told me on Thursday’s PFT Live, the Giants will visit Friday night with Burress.  According to the New York Post, Burress is scheduled to meet with the Steelers on Saturday.

Though Steve Serby of the Post implies that the Giants have all night to get a deal done with Burress, Mara was clear on Thursday.  Meeting with Plaxico is only the first step of the process.

“He is coming tomorrow evening and he and Tom are going to sit down, and that’s step one of the process,” Mara said.  “And if we move successfully past step one of the process, then we have to see if he fits in terms of our salary cap situation and everything. . . .  We’re a long way from being there, and we’ll just have to see what happens.”

For Giants coach Tom Coughlin, that first step will be critical.  Coughlin needs to know that Burress will do what’s expected of him, like showing up and/or showing up on time.

  1. I’m amazed that these teams don’t seem to be worried about him being completely out of football shape. He hasn’t been allowed to practice in front of anyone…so how are you supposed to make the guy an offer?

  2. As a Giants fan, I’m split on Plax. Part of me wants him back, he was an incredible weapon. But the other part just wants to move on with the great, young receivers they have now. But, if the Steelers are the only other team truly interested, I’d rather Plax sign with the Giants.

Don’t be amazed. There is very low risk. Contracts are not guaranteed in this league. Whoever signs him could cut him and only be out the signing bonus. He’s been out for two months and has been working out with Byron Leftwich (Steelers backup) ever since.

NNAMDI ASOUGUMA IS AN EAGLE BABY!!!!

And the Eagles still won’t win a championship. Eagles is defined in the dictionary as: “Football team from Philly who cannot get the job done when it counts”

    Eagles Suck!!! Go Giants!

    NYG: 3 Super Bowl Championships
    PHA: “We Booed Santa Claus”

  5. Ward. Wallace. Saunders. Brown. IS JUST FINE!!! As a longtime Steelers fan I know the drill… wait till everyone releases players and bargain shop. I BEG YOU though… Take the money you may be offering Plax and GO GET AN ABOVE AVERAGE O LINEMAN PLEEEEEEEAAAAAASSSE!!!!!!!!!

  6. @jpmelon …

Plaxico has been working out with one of our young receivers, Antonio Brown, because they share the same agent. Brown says he’s in great shape and looks terrific.

Sure hope he and Coughlin aren’t having dinner alone because I can only imagine how that conversation would drag.

  7. Michael Jenkins (formerly of the ATL Falcons, 6’5” and fast) would be a better option as a 3rd WR for the Steelers.
Jenkins had 777 yards receiving last year. Burress had 0 — the past couple of seasons.
