Rams beef up receiving corps with Mike Sims-Walker

With a franchise quarterback in the making, the Rams now need receivers who can make him look even better.  And in a buyers’ market at the pass-catching position, the Rams have bought the services of Mike Sims-Walker.

The former Jaguar announced on his verified Twitter page that he has joined the Rams.  ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that Walker signed only a one-year deal.

Walker, a three-year veteran, received no qualifying offer from the Jaguars, making him a free agent.  The decision was confusing, given that he had a couple of solid seasons in Jacksonville, with seven touchdowns in 2009 and seven more in 2010.  He had a career-high 869 receiving yards in his second season.

He wasn’t even the best Jaguar with a hyphenated last name… *sigh*

  7. doe22us says: Jul 29, 2011 9:38 PM

Its because he is too injury prone

  8. hjfwright says: Jul 29, 2011 9:38 PM

Mike Sims-Hobbling on that bad knee. Hence the one-year contract.

This guy will have more touchdowns this year than Sidney Rice.

have to say as a rams fan i have been pretty anxious over the last couple days with their slow movement. but am eating my crow today.
    GO RAMS!!

    Good grab.

  12. kenboslice says: Jul 29, 2011 9:44 PM

MSW is a decent receiver. The only knock on him is he can’t handle physical corners, he is good at finding holes in zone though.

  13. emmac13 says: Jul 29, 2011 9:47 PM

I hate seeing all these moves. Will somebody bang on the Walrus door and wake him. It is almost as if MANKOK is still in the office.

  14. philahitman says: Jul 29, 2011 9:47 PM

Really good move for the Rams. And a good fantasy sleeper!

  15. bigred12 says: Jul 29, 2011 9:50 PM

good. less competition for the vikings, who need a new #1 wr.

  16. andyreidisfat says: Jul 29, 2011 9:52 PM

I like this for the Rams, except this guy has leg problems and that crappy turf they have is no good on the legs. Hope he stays healthy and good luck to the Rams fans. That team is going to be really good in a few years

  17. moneymike23 says: Jul 29, 2011 9:56 PM

How bout Mark Clayton??? Played very well before the injury and him and Sam Bradford have long history.

  18. daburgher says: Jul 29, 2011 10:04 PM

Rams win the west this year.. hands down.. only team with a PROVEN qb

  19. michaeldgonzales says: Jul 29, 2011 10:13 PM

    Wasn’t he in “Good Times”?

    Get ready for injured reserve.

  21. awhartstl says: Jul 29, 2011 10:41 PM

So let me get this straight: Plax is still available, Moss, Braylon, and others too. They passed on Sidney Rice. And all this so the Rams can sign MIKE SIMS-WALKER who nobody was even talking about and likely very few were pursuing? Are you kidding me?!?! Is Devaney even trying?

  22. goatcheez says: Jul 29, 2011 10:43 PM

He’s a good #2 guy. Jax didn’t want him back because he’s not a #1 and thinks he is and thinks he should be paid as one. Obviously he thinks high of himself. He did have the dropsies last year though so that could be a problem. Sort of injury prone. But who isn’t in the NFL these days. They sure don’t make them how they used to.

Step in the right direction for the next peyton man thing.

idk about sims walker but bradford is gonna be a beast!

Loving the moves we’re making so far, but seriously Mr.Devaney, wheres our change of pace back for SJax?

  25. hermanspeewee says: Jul 29, 2011 11:07 PM

He killed me in fantasy football, but makes sense in the real world. Rams have a lot of different options at WR with no clear cut No. 1, and a stud QB. That’s the best possible place for Sims-Walker. With a little luck the Rams could start winning this pathetic division consistently.

  26. momentumtech says: Jul 29, 2011 11:53 PM

As a Jags fan, I thought they would offer MSW something to stay but apparently they think he has developed a case of the alligator arms. I think they also questioned his toughness in playing through pain and kind of a selfish attitude. IDK seems kind of like the attitude of most WRs in the league but what do I know. Anyway since you guys are in the NFC, I wish MSW and the Rams the best of luck. He was definitely a big contributor and a big target when he was healthy to play.

  27. momentumtech says: Jul 29, 2011 11:57 PM

    @sportsbastard,

The best hypenated Jag … had a good laugh at that one.

But there is no way you are getting are best hypen! Maurice Jones-Drew! From our cold, dead fingers!

Sam Bradford will be happy but honestly Mike Sims-Walker never WOWED me

packersareandwillalwaysbebetterthanthebears says: “This guy will have more touchdowns this year than Sidney Rice.”

Says who, a fat guy who plays a lot of fantasy football?

Rice isn’t even in your division anymore yet you hate him because he was a Viking. Let it go.

daburgher says “Rams win the west this year.. hands down.. only team with a PROVEN qb”

Yeah and not much else, homeslice. Rams fans said that last year too and it didn’t happen.

Bradford tapped into his inner Rich Gannon/Alex Smith with all those checkdowns in Week 16 against the Seahawks.

MSW is a guy who should be better than he is. He’s become a classic case of, “looks like Tarzan, plays like Jane”.

Did any Rams fans REALLY think they were going to win the division last year up until 6 days before week 17? No.

    ps. have fun with T-Jax.

pps. Rams will win the division this year.

    1. Probably. How is that even relevant? They still thought they’d destroy the Seahawks in a cakewalk and just waltz into the playoffs but rather they came unprepared and got their butts kicked by Charlie Whitehurst.

    2. Thanks for your well wishes.

    3. Yeah, yeah same story every year but yet the Seahawks find a way to win it almost every year for the past decade (even at 7-9) much to the chagrin of all you haters.

As a Rams fan: pleased with what they’ve done in FA so far. Going for it in a weak division.

I feel ya brother! I was salivating at all the FA WR’s and we come up w/ this Joe-shmoe. 1yr 3mil to Moss and same for T.O. I dont care if they are cancer in the locker room get it done Devaney!

He’s a good player when healthy and I wish the Jaguars had kept him. I think he’ll do well with Bradford. Who knows, this could be the beginning of something special. Good luck to MSW.
