Twitter trade rumors prompt Dockett to clear the air with coach

Darnell-Dockett1a

Recently, Cardinals defensive tackle Darnell Dockett live-tweeted a traffic stop that resulted in police trying to get him to consent to a search of the car.

On Thursday, Dockett provided a glimpse into his reaction to rumors that he’s being traded to the Ravens.

He mentioned the rumors on Twitter and re-tweeted messages passing along the chatter of a trade. Eventually, Dockett said, “I’m not tweeting no more I’m pissed! Me to the Ravens no no no! Ttyl I’m calling my coach!”

Not long after that, Dockett was back, with a resolution.

“Whoop whoop my coach says no way I leave AZ and he even said NINO can come to training camp we getting bunk beds! This the best day EVER!”

It could be that Dockett is having some fun with us. Why would the Ravens, with Haloti Ngata and Terrence Cody, trade for Dockett? Why would the Cardinals, who signed Dockett to a long-term extension last year and have seen several key pieces of the defense leave since March 2010, even consider moving him?

With Cardinals coach Ken Whisenhunt appearing on today’s PFT Live, we’ll find out soon whether Dockett actually placed that call.

Still, it’s another example of how Twitter provides unprecedented access to the thought processes of NFL players, in real time.
